STOPOVER BOMBAY IS THE LOWEST RATED TRACK?? ROBBED!
Why has there been such a trend recently with artists abandoning seriousness and lyrical depth in rap? Kendrick Lamar on GNX, Denzel Curry on KOTMSV2, MIKE with Pinball I & II, Ghais Guevara with The Other 2/5ths, JID with the GDLU Preluxe, Kanye with everything he's released in the past few years... why are all these super prominent rappers venturing into a more lighthearted, energetic yet lyrically shallow area of hip-hop? At the same time as well?
Anybody else feel like their songwriting got significantly worse on this record? Blah blah... turn to dust... I look up at the sky... I'm a fool... I don't know who I am... When you left....
How many times will I hear the same line? Still great music though.
Hear me out... what if Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, maybe even with, like, a sprinkle of The Lumineers, and One Republic came together, united... and made a song.
I have loved almost every thing Phil has released but this just really didn't do anything for me. Half of it is just drums, for starters, and the other half was some so-so folk. I'll revisit in the future but I just didn't enjoy this. People talking about how this made them cry or how it's a musical microcosm of the entire universe..... what?
Definitely listen if you enjoy a pretentious Muppet rambling a single line over and over for 5 minutes straight in front a guitar that switches chords only every few minutes. There is a fine line that people tend to blur between being "avant-garde" and flat out sounding bad. Guess which side this album is on?
The first song is definitely AI but is the second? It doesn't particularly sound like AI Ye...
Production is alright but King Combs is such a stuck-up prick on this EP and it shows. The lyrics here are just so lame or outright offensive. I wonder what Donda would think of Kanye these days.
This is exactly what I've searching for in a soul album. One Woman made me tear up, man.
While listening to this, just pay attention to how many unique words you hear. It's like he never repeats the same word.
People claim that trap is never given a fair chance on this site... that's not the issue with this album. The issue is his awful delivery. Plus, I'm losing respect for the guy with his endless IG stories targeting random critical comments and claiming they just "don't get it". He's reaching JPEGMAFIA's level of a keyboard warrior.
Genuinely a horrific record. Stop excusing trash for being experimental or avant-garde. This shit sucks and is not music.
