Believe it or not, this EP is actually kinda worth your time. It shows a dimension of Ken Carson you don't really see in his modern music, and combined with some pretty good features, it's a good carefree listen. "Geeked Up", "Flexing", and "Moshpit" were my favs but everything was kinda fun.
The opening "Digi Snacks Intro", "Long Time Coming", and "You Can't Stop Me Now" actually gave me a lot of hope for this album, but unfortunately that hope died quickly after. There are some seriously questionable moments here. "Straight Up the Block" is straight wack and "Booby Trap" has just the worst hook ever lmao. I really enjoyed "Good Night" and "No Regrets" production wise, but they're just too offset by RZA ... read more
Yet another solid early Dave East mixtape displaying his drive and grit. This album's strongest suit is probably it's production, which is pretty damn great throughout, even providing some of Dave's best beat selection ever with tracks like "Amazing, Pt. II" and "I Own It". The features here are mostly good except for who I think is Blu Suede on "Ball Up", delivering a momentum-killing verse on what is otherwise a really great song. This is one ... read more
This project's issue isn't necessarily its sound, because really it doesn't sound bad and has some good highlights, but it's that Boldy is straying pretty far from his artistic depth that made previous releases so engaging. Tracks get particularly dry on the latter half like "All On My Side", and "SAMY", but ultimately it's the no-brainer nature of this project that makes it a lot more difficult to latch onto. I did quite enjoy "Dawn Mega", ... read more
Edit 2: 80 --> 85, it's just too peak
Edit: 75 --> 80, Wowie zowie oopie powie, this album gets more and more addicting the more I've revisited it, now it's near the top of my rotation and it's getting real comfy up there. I'm turning over new rocks on tracks I found a tad bit underwhelming before, and it's becoming even more consistent as a result. The interesting musical quirks are still awesome, everything about this is awesome, goddamn.
If anybody knows ... read more
This album is so damn entertaining. About half of the stuff here is amazing, some being easily some of the best production Lil B has ever rapped over, namely "Cold War", "Blue Flame Remix" and "Goodbye", the last of which is literally perfect and I'd rank it maybe top 5 Lil B songs. Like any Lil B mixtape, the dynamic is the gorgeous gems like the previously named mixed with the absolutely batshit in your face, poorly mixed stuff, which mostly manages to be ... read more
This is what victory sounds like. The combination of pure southern hype and more conscious based material topped off with a gorgeous opener and outro give King Remembered In Time the cohesion of a studio album, despite it being released as a mixtape. It's also worth mentioning that "R.E.M" and "WTF", two songs on here that aren't even on streaming, are some of the best things here. The hook on the latter is crazy good, like infectious good. On KRIT, Krit goes hard ... read more
This is so tough. Key Glock just needs this to be a great album and he's in the books for sure.
I might be coming full circle with Bladee. Either that or I'm just not crazy about this era of his music. I spent a lot of this listen not being crazy about songs initially but growing to like them before they finished. I can't say the same about tracks like "Missing Person", "Sick", "Rip", and "Wrist Cry", which were more convincingly misses. It might be more inspired than following projects like Red Light or Icedancer, but I found it to be ... read more
Basically Comethazine if he made good music, #SantanaWorld is an exciting, short and sweet, energetic mixtape. Don't overthink it and you'll have a fun listen. Tay-K's flows are tight and his cadence intrigues. The production ranges from good-great and elevates tracks like "Lemonade" and "Gotta Blast" to being among the best on this thing. "The Race" is great too and "Saran Pack", albeit too short, was another one of my favs. I rate it.
Yung Lean's latest project is, in my opinion, his worst. While Lean explores a really interesting new lane of sound on this tape, a handful of the songs here feel stripped back and skeletons of what they could be, whether it be from lacklustre performances or underdeveloped production. However, despite its lack of polish here and there, Stardust delivers some pretty nice material and opens a new pool of Yung Lean songs to pick from. In a weird way, it's as refreshing as it is ... read more
The TLDR for the spiel below is that I don't like that I enjoy this.
This is probably the last Sewerslvt album I listen to. I can separate art form the artist to a degree but it has recently become difficult to want to revisit or try out new music from this artist after learning about her controversies and I won't make a list of all the things about her I don't like because this is a music review, and while I am for separating art form the artist, to a degree, the aftermath of a ... read more
Edit: 75 --> 80, I fucking love slowthai man
The dual-tone structure of this album is super enticing, but unfortunately in overall execution, I'm a bit less into it than UGLY, the other album I've heard from slowthai. While it isn't as consistently great at that project, the way it presents itself is admirable and slowthai's character, its eccentricities and charms are still present. slowthai knows how to make a banger but the first half is a little patchy. I didn't ... read more
It's a good release but a step down from his previous two mixtapes. While we still get a decent handful of highlights and some of the best production Dave has rapped over ever, it has duds. "Monster", "Scramblin", "Who's East?", and the title track "Don't Sleep" were either boring or just wack and eliminate some of this mixtape's would be consistency. However, like its predecessors, other than the duds, the nonhighlights are good, ... read more
I haven't given out a 9 in like a month but this is most definitely deserving of it. This is, without a doubt, the strongest Yung Lean project I've heard thus far. It is as consistent as Frost God and Poison Ivy, my other two favs, but with higher peaks. The production is just stellar, cosmic, otherworldly, as are Lean's vocals which I found surprisingly accessible for this being a hit or miss time for cloud rap, at least in my experiences. This album is just back to back to back ... read more
Higher highs than Chairs Missing, my other experience with Wire, but probably a little less consistent. It's got the same awesome character and grit of that album but it just feels a little too frantic. Its delivery is super rapid fire, leaving many tracks to be around the one minute mark, give or take. There are a ton of tracks here that would benefit from at least a minute tagged onto their runtime, and while I get that that isn't the point, the short lengths don't let some ... read more
Rest in peace Derek Keith Barbosa AKA Chino XL. (TW for discussion of depression and suicide)
This is relatively old news, but it's news to me. I just found out that last July, Chino took own life, a horrible and devastating way for anybody to lose their life. I have left a link at the bottom of this post if you or somebody you know is feeling suicidal and needs to speak to somebody with anonymity. Please reach out to that source or somebody you trust if you feel unsafe.

After a few up and down but admittedly intriguing EPs, we have the first full length Cynthoni album, and it's a redux of sorts to the incredible Draining Love Story. That album was my intro to Sewerslvt and has since been a go to EDM album for me. It's phenomenal from start to back, being amazingly produced and packing a ton of emotion. This album doesn't totally branch out as much as its previous EPs, but its still carries a rockin formula that presents some damn good DnB. From ... read more
I really don't mind this. Far from what I thought it'd be, FOR THE LOVE is a cohesive, relatively thought out, well produced and energized mixtape. For a mixtape, it even carries transitions and theme repetition that would make me otherwise think it was a studio album. It's only 27 minutes, by far the shortest Dave East project, but it's kinda short and sweet. Scram Jones and Dave collaborate for the first time in 10 years and work together quite well. This album is a love ... read more
