I've been saying "I Bullshit You Not" to myself all night because it and this mixtape are so damn funny to me for literally no reason. Anyway, this is sort of supposed to be a prelude to Back on My B.S. , an album I haven't listened to yet, but it's actually pretty solid all things considered. It was cool seeing the origins of "Fate Of The World" and how it was originally an obscure Busta song before it landed On RZA's project with Scratch. Speaking of ... read more
It feels like a slightly stripped down version of Alternative Trap, but it's still a solid album and a really enjoyable listen. Body High is more linear than its predecessor, offering a thinner array sonically, but its consistency and overall quality makes it absolutely worth the listen. You get the same tones, attitude, and performances from Lucki on an arguably fresher sound, even if it offers less depth. Highlights like "Slow Down", "Xan Cage", and "Count On Me ... read more
Hands down the best Lofty album I've heard this far. While Lofty has put out some solid work, a lot of it is sort of effortless, and I don't mean that in a bad way. The laid back style of his music has always worked for him, and is not nearly a hindrance of quality as often as one might think. On great releases like Shroomtard, Haunted Clothes, Vaglord, Maxine, and more, Lofty has proven that he doesn't need to go super deep into songwriting and album construction to have a great ... read more
The Sentient Gear series is one of the more interesting instalments in the Lofty discography, with multiple volumes helping build its identity. However, in contrast to volumes 1 and 2, and other Lofty instrumental albums for that matter, Vol. 3 functions most like a beat tape, leaning more into Lofty's cloud rap influences than his newer curiosity with electronic flavours. That said, this chapter doesn't part ways from the enigmatic and otherwordly aesthetic that helps give Sentient ... read more
In essence, Shroomtard is pretty similar to Haunted Clothes, the Lofty album that probably most have listened to if they've checked him out at all. This one is arguably more consistent, while still delivering the same amazing cloud rap highlights. Haunted clothes had its title track and the phenomenal "Heart and Mind" while Shroomtard delivers "I Luv It", a magnificent five and a half minute lush, cloud rap gem that carries substantially more weight than any other song ... read more
ALL KILLER NO FILLER.
This Collab between East and Ransom is a MUST LISTEN for 2025 hip hop fans. There isn't a flaw in this album, and while it's no masterpiece, it's certainly deserving of more attention. "THE FINAL CALL" and "BLOOD AND WATER" aren't necessarily playlist worthy but they're still decent, well produced songs, and as the worst things on this album, you know there's some serious good shit here. It was also due time for Dave East ... read more
Kept getting better and better. It was honestly an awesome feeling to have the mental rating go up and up as it went on. This album went from being one note, which, granted it is, to a banger at least every other track. Von is hungry, the production is samey but hits more often than it misses, and the features do their thing. Not too much to say it's just a fun listen. Favs were "Armed & Dangerous", "The Cdode", "Gleesh Place", "Can't ... read more
While Guru's talent around the Jazzmatazz 1 and Daily Operation era were undoubtably pristine, this second volume, post Hard to Earn, shows Guru as he enters his final form, the same Guru that would deliver the near-perfect Moment of Truth. This album is a 90s rap fan's wet dream and a considerable step up from volume one, though that's not to undermine the original's quality. Vol. 2 is grounded far more in the 90s sound more are familiar with. The jazzy samples and harder ... read more
Probably the craziest thing to see in a new Carti album is the sheer chokehold he has on the internet when the album's release was right around the corner. Seeing twitter, twitch, and instagram completely up in flames for a few hours was fun as hell to observer. I was up last night until 5 in the morning waiting for the drop, but it didn't come so I went to bed. I'm a big fan of WLR and his self titled, Die Lit is pretty good too, so I'd consider myself a moderate fan of ... read more
I don’t care this song is addicting and Mario Judah is still super talented and you can’t change my mind.
Seeing these guys not even added on this site is sad. The Wildwoods is an acoustic trio I discovered on instagram and they absolutely need more play, bringing refreshing, lively, passionate folk music to recent years. The two lead vocalists lay beautiful harmonies on every track and synergise like bread and butter. The instrumentation is fantastic, layered, and all around gorgeous. This is a must listen for anybody looking for a new, pure folk experience.
Actually quite fun. I enjoy this album because it doesn't overthink shit, but it does have some truly bad songs. Up until "Can I Get Your Number", i was vibing with everything, but then the album goes on a string of inconsistency, delivering a heavily mixeed bag of more vibes and effortless duds. "Watchu Doin Later" and "i jus wanna be happy" were cool, and I didn't mind "Hey, Hey, Hey" but literally everything else on the second half of the ... read more
Hold on now, the cover may be complete shit, but if this is the wu we’re getting for the album then this maybe be Iron Flag levels of great.
I'm absolutely not one to judge how somebody portrays their music emotionally, but I came out of this project resonating more with this album's sonical ideas than its lyricism and conceptual exploration. The singer-songwriter format here is mostly basic and certainly works, but it can feel a little bit repetitive and stale near the end, but it does vary here and there. "Killer" and "Georgia" went back to back favs on the album for me, the former striking me the ... read more
It's fun and packs a lot of personality, but has just too many weak tracks for me to give it more credit. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have an undoubtedly infectious energy in their music that makes a front to back listen, even at an hour, a fun one. This album is actually less one-dimensional than you might initially think. Tracks like "Porcelain", "Savior", and the gorgeous "Road Trippin'" switch up this albums formula for new, refreshing tones that ... read more
I didn't even mean to listen to this album, clicking play on it instead of White Light from the Mouth of Infinity cause they look similar I guess, but I'm not disappointed. It's pretty different from other Swans albums I've heard because it's a lot less drony and Gira discovered that you can use more than one chord in a song!!! It's a pretty captivating listen, with a rocky but relatively consistent sound, and interludes that feel pretty effective. "Love of ... read more
I think you can come to appreciate this project a lot more when you've come from Zay's earlier projects which were pretty lifeless, uninspired, and really mid at best. On VIP, Zay capitalizes on his recent attention by dropping some of his most invigorated material, where he sounds hungry, motivated, and eager. The production is tight and Zay's mic presence is awesome. He makes every dark ass beat complete with his straight devilish flow, delivery, and cadence. It's limited ... read more
This album is absolutely loaded with amazing stuff. The character and beauty in Imogen Heap's voice cannot be understated, as can the production on this album because holy shit. The intricacies, melodic layering, versatility, wide array of flavours, like this album has it all. The only song that I didn't think was necessarily *amazing* on here was "Loose Ends" and it's still great at that. Somebody will go track by track and give this album the dissection it deserves ... read more
I think I OD'd on Slowdive...
Listening to the entire Slowdive discography (other than Souvlaki) wasn't on my Agenda for today, or rather for over two days (it's past 5 in the morning). After getting through all the albums and EPs, this is the very last one, the EP not on streaming. It's sorta not fair or appropriate to compare this EP to the others considering two of its four tracks are classics from Souvlaki, but the other two originals, "So Tired" and ... read more
