I'm a really big fan of Pusha T and I've been wanting to get into his back catalogue for a while so this was a perfect place for me to get started. Lord Willin' is an album I've wanted to listen to for a while, ever since I heard Grindin' on 2K. This album really follows in the same direction as Grindin'. Pusha and Malice know what their limitations are and what they're respectively good at, and they do a good job sticking to that and not going out of their comfort zone. And that's mainly coke ... read more
I’ve been looking for an excuse to write my thoughts on this album for a while now. While most people know Technique from his underground hit Dance With The Devil, he is so much more. In fact, it’s a shame that most people know Tech from that one annoying kid in your class that made you listen to Dance With The Devil once for some reason. The guy’s actually an underground legend, and for good reason. This album is a good showcase of what he’s really made of. While a lot ... read more
I’ve listened to this album before when I was doing my Outkast discography review. I didn’t pay it too much attention then because I was trying to get through the albums quickly so it was nice to come back to it now. This is a pretty special album. Not only is it considered André and Big Boi’s magnum opus, but it’s generally considered a stepping stone in hip-hop, much like the previous albums I’ve listened to were. A lot of people go to this album when ... read more
I've liked Mos Def for a while and I really enjoyed the Black Star album so I was looking quite forward to this one. I did listen to this album over a few days because of other things but it was still an interesting experience regardless. Mos Def is a very interesting artist in my opinion, as, while he does have great lyrical ability and flow, he tends to take some more unorthadox approaches with his songs. These usually pay off, as each song has at least a minute or two that gets you invested ... read more
I actually wasn't familiar with this album until a short while ago. I knew who Mos Def was of course and Talib Kweli is one of my favorite rappers of all time, but I didn't know they were a duo until shortly before I did this project. Either way, this album fucking rules. The lyrical content is right up my alley with both of them rapping about their experiences growing up in Brooklyn where I was born, and telling their stories under different lights. Sonically, this album is also a blast with ... read more
Another album I've been wanting to listen to for a while. I've always been kinda iffy on Biggie for a while, mostly due to his voice. It was kinda off-putting and I thought it only worked on certain songs. Yeah, I was wrong about that. Not only did I underestimate Biggie's voice but I underestimating his rapping as a whole really. He had a lot of good bars on this album and the best songs do a great job of showing his lyrical abilities. Not only that but he can use his voice as a positive ... read more
While it did have some bright spots, mainly towards the end, Rock The House mainly sounds like an album that was made mainly for radio play more than anything. DJ Jazzy Jeff is definitely the star of the group, as the majority of the beats on this album are pretty good and even make some of the less stellar songs sound decent. Same can't be said for Will Smith's rapping. The best way I can describe Will Smith's rapping is one of those family friendly YouTube channels that you make your kid ... read more
Paid In Full is what happens when you take one of the greatest rappers of all time and combine him with one of the greatest DJs of all time. You get one of the greatest classic hip-hop albums of all time. These two go together better than anything I've ever seen before, with Rakim's flow going perfectly over Eric B's beats that still sound fresh to this day. You could've told me this album came out last year and I wouldn't have been too surprised. It's no surprise that this album is seen as a ... read more
First of all, fuck Snoop for taking this album off streaming in his NFT bullshit. I have no idea why he did that shit but it's annoying as fuck when I have to pirate the album to review it. Anyways, Doggystyle is seen as a hip-hop landmark and for good reason. This album helped popularize the G-Funk subgenre in West Coast Hip-Hop. While we saw some of that in The Chronic, it really wasn't displayed throughout an entire album until the relative newcomer Snoop came out with this album at only 22 ... read more
Very raw thoughts here as I just got done listening to the album but I have to say this is a great note for Kendrick to return on. The album starts off with one of the stronger opening tracks I've heard in a while in United In Grief and it carries that momentum on for a while. N95 is one of the more underappreciated cuts on the album (I might just be saying that cause I love Kendrick's high pitch voice) and Die Hard fits the radio hit portion of the album that he was going for. From there the ... read more
I was really excited to listen to this album, it's been on my list for a few months now and I liked the Tupac music I heard before this. And this album has some absolute fucking classics on it, some of his most recognizable songs, matter of fact. However, that's not gonna let me look past just how damn bloated this album is, especially around the middle section. While I understand that it's a double album and why it's so bloated, it's pretty grating to listen to at times. And I mean it's hard ... read more
This is an album I've been anticipating ever since I started the project, and for good reason. I really like ODB on most of the Wu-Tang stuff and Shimmy Shimmy Ya is a really good song. Needless to say, I was really excited. ODB's voice can be pretty off-putting to the casual listener and it does take a while to get used to, but it works for him. At his best he can use his voice as its own instrument kinda like Young Thug. But I can admit that at its worst it's pretty grating to get through a ... read more
Bit of an unorthadox choice here as this infamous KMD album caused quite a bit of controversy back when it was set to be released because of the cover art which shows a Sambo figure being Iynchéd. As a result of the controversy, this album was shelved. Now admittedly, the cover art is pretty out there and I can see why people would be pissed about it back then, but the album's lyrical content isn't that far removed from what I've heard in previous KMD tracks. They cover about the same ... read more
Noted as a landmark in West Coast Hip-Hop and hip-hop in general, The Chronic is an album that people have told me to listen to for a while now, and for good reason. I always knew that Dre was great as a producer but I was still iffy on him rapping. Some tracks he's great (Dre Day) and some tracks he's mediocre at best (A lot of the N.W.A. tracks). Thankfully this album showed more of his good side when it comes to rapping and it goes without saying that the beats were fantastic as usual. He ... read more
I've wanted to listen to this album for a while now and I've put it off for this project. Can't say I was dissappointed. We Can't Be Stopped is one of the best Gangsta rap records I've heard so far and it sold really well for a reason. The cover of We Can't Be Stopped is a top 5 favorite album cover of all time, depicting member Bushwick Bill in the hospital after getting shot in the eye after an altercation with his girlfriend with his eyepatch removed and his groupmates by his side. A ... read more
Honestly, I like them better than N.W.A, which I didn't expect going into this album. I knew some Public Enemy songs from before but never a whole album. I'm a really big fan of the beats they use and some of the skits are amazing. Chuck D's flows and Flavor Flav's energy compliment each other really well. I might go as far as to say that Flavor Flav is the best hype man in hip-hop history. He really brings some of the tracks to life despite not being the greatest rapper of all time per se. The ... read more
We went from an album that maybe kinda disappointed me compared to the hype it got to an album that surprised a lot despite the hype it got. I knew that 3FHAR was going to be a really good album based on all the glowing reviews. But I didn't expect it to end up as one of my favorite albums of all time. First of all, it was pretty hard to find this album, as it's not on any streaming services due to some legal troubles, so I ended up downloading it off a website instead. Can't say it wasn't ... read more
While not the critically acclaimed masterpiece I was expecting, Straight Outta Compton does pack a pretty heavy punch in the lyrics and flow department. It certainly doesn't help that it has two of the greatest and most well known MCs in Ice Cube and Eazy-E on the mic as well as Dr. Dre helping with production (and some rapping). This album was hated by parents and teachers alike in the 80s and 90s due to profane lyrical content, and I can clearly see why, as this would definitely be extremely ... read more
Loved the punk rock influence. MCA is personally my favorite but the whole is greater than the sum of their parts. Some of the bars are still pretty good and aged decently while others just made me shake my head. Overall, a good album and while I'm not in love with it, I can respect the influences it had on hip-hop especially back then, and it's pretty good even in modern day. Definitely a landmark in hip-hop history.

One of the better NBA game soundtracks out there. NBA game soundtracks did a huge part in introducing me to new artists back in the day and I used to have this game on my PS2 back in 2010-13 when I played it with my dad. Fast forward a decade and the soundtrack still hits. Wish they'd go back to this style.
