Surf Gang's production is filled with dark, ambient and buzzy synths that match MIKE and Earl's lazed delivery, for the most part. There are quite a few INCREDIBLE beats on here, and of course, MIKE and Earl will guarantee a few amazing verses here and there. Admittedly it got slightly stale at points but for the most part this is solid.
The beats on IT'S BEEN AWFUL offer a warm embrace to the battle Isaiah Rashad wages against his vices through his lyricism.
The dancing synths and jazz instrumentals combine with beats that remind me of blkswn by Smino, and I love the range of deliveries Isaiah goes for in his rapping (and occasional singing), which I think was lacking on The House is Burning. Some absolute fucking gorgeous funky bangers to start off the record, then it kind of turns into this atmospheric, groovy backing track vibe by the second half of the album.

Black Thought is one of those rappers that seemingly has no flaws. Everything down to the flows, lyricism and delivery is flawless, and then you have danger mouse absolutely killing it with these jazzy beats that have so much tension that amplify every verse delivered.
