TOOL - Fear Inoculum
60

(edited from 75 >> 60)

"not bad but can feel stretched out at times" -me at 2024
jesus listening to this from front to back is painful, pneuma and 7empest on their own are the best cuts and even then they still somewhat overstay a bit,

so having to listen to tracks like invincible (cue title card) and culling voices which are 10 minutes of absolute NOTHING is just pain

favs: 7empest, pneuma

Lamp - 一夜のペーソス [Dusk to Dawn]
90

edit: (100 -> 90)

i have to admit, i overhyped the album back in 2023, bcuz it was the first lamp album where i was an actual fan waiting for the release of it. still it is great, but it isnt 100 material lol, cmon 2023 me, what were u on!!

so the current me still thinks the album is great to be fair, the quality is still quite definitely there in the standout tracks such as august calendar, the last dance, and old notebook, which sounds like something straight out of tokyo utopia. but ... read more

Lamp - 東京ユウトピア通信 [Tokyo Utopia Communications]
90

(edit: 92 -> 90)

tokyo utopia is still one of lamp's most interesting albums to listen to this day, with how unique its instrumentals are.

my personal highlights apart from the obvious, (cough chilly spectacle) wait can we just talk about chilly spectacle, a 7 minute song, lamp's longest song ever, and its a 7 minutes filled with amazing vocals from kaori and a crazy guitar part lol

okay back to topic, track 1 hooks u into the album, a great start to tokyo utopia, and even ... read more

Lamp - 木洩陽通りにて [At Komorebi St.]
87

(edit: 91 -> 87)

komorebi's biggest flaw is that it is inbetween for lovers and genso in lamps discography

in komorebi, they lean more into the synths and guitars in some tracks, but also go for a sound akin to some for lovers era typa sound in some. overall it is still a great album to listen to.

my recommendations are the first 2 tracks, and the last 3 tracks, with track 7 being a sleeper hit for me.

Lamp - 残光 [Afterglow]
83

its chill, what else can i say? the tracks are very decent to be fair, but theres a reason its an ep and not a full album i think

Lamp - 八月の詩情 [The Poetry of August]
100

this is my ride or die lamp release, it is a personal favorite of mine !

i love the attention given to the funky synths on from the midnight shoreline, but then it mellows out quickly on had a summer dream, and reminiscences is kind of a weak point yet its still enjoyable for me, then the peak arrives, watch out...

love in the afternoon is such a banger of a 6 minute track, with its soft guitar part, a sharp contrast to the first track lol.

the poetry of august has such a beautiful layering ... read more

On Pepper6969's review of Metallica - ...And Justice for All
"(from u/depthandbloom on r/bass) "As other have put, there's probably dozens of reasons why, but I think the main ones are: James wanted his guitar tones to be huge with lots of low end while palm muting. If you wanted your guitar tones to sound bigger, you can't just boost the low frequencies. You have take the low end out of anything else it might be "competing" with sonically, such as bass guitar. Similarly, Lars also like his kit to sound big, especially the kick drum having lots of punch and low end. So for his kick drum to have more low end, and like James, he believed that if the bass is lower in volume, you'll hear the real sound of his drum kit more.""
