Invigorating fusion of hardcore & hip-hop; music for headbanging, moshing, or dancing - pick your poison. The record is an achievement for the band that takes hardcore and noise rock in a new direction. it has some rough edges, and to my ears sounds less mature than the (admittedly less experimental) Dogwhistle, but it’s still a great album. Even if you don’t normally listen to hardcore, check this out! My boyfriend hates punk but loved this.

This one took a few listens (and, incidentally, a live performance) but I’m pretty into it now. I see a lot of dudes digging it, and I think that’s cool, but my response is gendered in some key ways.

I realize no one’s looking for another take on this album, but it’s been on my mind, partly because I recently saw them live, but also because I think You Won’t Get What You Want will be a contender on many “best of the decade” lists. So here’s my 2 cents.

Japanese noise pop is not normally in my wheelhouse, but one of the tracks from this album came up in a Spotify playlist and I was intrigued, so I decided to check it out. In all honesty, I THOUGHT I was mining the album for one or two more gems to put on playlists, but ended up liking the thing from start to finish (exception: I listened to the deluxe edition and didn't care for any of the three remixes at the end.. but the original tracklist is super solid). Other users have noted the noise ... read more

Like IDLES and Fontaines DC, but boring.

Just kidding. I don’t get the IDLES/FDC comparisons at all. The Murder Capital doesn’t sound like either of those bands to me. I wasn’t kidding about the boring part, though. I was hoping I’d like this album but I just couldn’t get into it. Slow, plodding tempos, boring bass lines, indifferent delivery from the vocalist, forgetable riffs, a few good lyrics, but nothing to scribble in your notebook or save for your next ... read more
