daft punk influence all over the place
makes me think of the drastic switch ups of songs like aerodynamic
the sticking to what made dogsbody special coming dangerously close to being repetitive but never crossing that line
they also added a lot of flavor to their ballads
Ever since owl city got out of his label deal his music has gotten in some ways more ambitious, there's more live instrumentation, theatrics, more adventurous song structures and production.
The passion is very clear but at the same time it's so self-indulgent that most songs don't stick the landing, many songs don't need to go as long as they do, some digress into sections that don't add much to the song overall it's kind of a messy execution.
The lyrics still holds back his music and it's ... read more
is not as cohesive or tight of a experience as the original but all the details added are cute and represent magbay's personality as a whole outside of mercurial world
ah rahrahrahrahrah ah rahrahrahrahrah
oh rohrohrohrohroh oh rohrohrohrohroh
CRASH is a solid album for Charli that this time around works in spite of it's production instead of being enhanced by it.
after so much of HIFN seemed to have a hint of nostalgia for true romance it was impossible not to see the writing on the wall that Charli was gonna switch gears and that finally happened to the dismay of a lot of fans of all the strides she made with hyperpop and pc music.
It's clear that Charli wanted to experiment using the label's framework to make a sellout album but ... read more
it's more fun than what her last 2 albums offered with the downside of it being her most formulaic album to date.
this is pretty much a pop punk throwback album that has to include blink-182 in some way or another and the result is the flanderization of avril lavigne
the comparison with EMOTION is inevitable because even if this isn't the 2020s pop landmark EMOTION was for the 2010s about enough of the checks are marked in it's sound and songwriting for it to be a similar catalyst moment for foxes' career as EMOTION was for CRJ.
the kick ultimately is a very consistent dance-pop album, and easily foxes' best body of work, filled with bops with a lot of 70's to 90s praise.
while solid with it's production the vocals and the sometimes vapid lyrics do get in the way of an otherwise good EP
this feels like a very run of the mill pop song disguised as more by having flume's usual production tricks around it
why is blackbear here
otherwise this would be a sort of ok avril song, the chorus is kind of catchy
At the very least it's an honest portrayal of Kanye's state right now but it's a very bitter, insecure and childish picture of him.
this might be kanye's most disgusting verse. The delusion, the insecurity, the necessity to flex his new girl, but mostly, the bitterness toward his ex, pete davidson and even his own kids?
the proportion of how appalling this verse is is that it started with a Taylor swift callback and people don't seem to remember it happened, that he undermined his therapy and ... read more
there is a compelling album here but it's held back by it's production, the album acts as a tug of war between the pop sensitivities within the songwriting and the production forcefully begging for attention in between the lines
this is one of the few times I've listened to neo-psychedelia that doesn't feel like it grabs heavily from old school psychedelia, the aesthetic of this album is cacophonous, haunting and at moments forlorn
Stromae is back with an anti Karen anthem
in full empathy for essential workers and referencing the way they're usually scolded towards the 2nd verse
I do have my reservations towards some of the production it does seem like the latino influences and the electronic elements don't blend as well as they could
I went into this wanting to see more of what I saw in just for me, that is a sort of fresh and soft fusion that very neatly puts in the same package drum & bass, pop, R&B and dance in less than 2 minutes
what I got after this was a quite formulaic and to an extent half cooked collection of songs, I'm not one to write off a song just cuz of the length after all it's better an idea doesn't overstay it's welcome, however the opposite of that happens here where the songs end before you ... read more
if you're the kind of person that longs for the early days of pc music give this one a listen
it takes notes from the production of the likes of A. G. Cook and Easyfun
