Lady Gaga - MAYHEM
73

I don’t know if I’ll get my gay card revoked for this, but this is my first full gaga album. I know this might not be the best place to start but whatever. but yeah this was cool ! based off the responses I’ve seen, it seems like some of her older albums are better, but I still liked this ! I feel like I have to be in a VERY specific mood to listen to stuff like this, cause it’s very maximalist and kinda campy, in ways that mostly work. I will say, “How Bad Do U ... read more

青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba] - Luminescent Creatures

another incredible and transportive album from ichiko aoba. I LOVE the abundance of piano on this album, and I feel like that, and a few other things, makes it a very distinct album compared to windswept adan. I do find it interesting that the album cover is water, because this feels much more airy than watery on a lot of these songs. there's a bit more atmosphere and empty space compared to windswept adan, and I love it. only minor criticisms are that the two interludes probably ... read more

Jane Remover - Dancing with your eyes closed
100

I don’t even know what to do with myself. I literally started laughing out of disbelief from how fucking good this song is. this might be one of the first songs I’d show someone who’s never listened to jane before

Asian Glow - 11100011
78

I love when I come up with my rating in my head before I go to write a review, and it's the same as the user score. anyways this was really solid ! this is my first full asian glow project aside from weatherglow and paraglow. this exact sound is one I've grown to love a lot based off artists like parannoul. and maybe it needs multiple listens, but not many of these songs really stuck with me and I don't know why. I think part of it is that a lot of the drum beats sound REALLY ... read more

Low Roar - House in the Woods

first full low roar album and WOW I can't wait to go through all of their other stuff because this was stunning. if perverts transported me to hell, this transported me to heaven, at least my idea of heaven which is the album cover. I just felt like I was in a beautiful forest

EDIT: I literally just found out at this point in typing that the lead singer passed away before this album was released :( I don't know how finished this was upon his passing, but it really feels like a ... read more

camp ghost - in the nature of
72

does this stand out that much in the grander scheme of emo/screamo? not really, but it's still done pretty well ! also I correctly predicted that the featured vocals would be screamed because their name is just one long word. but yeah it's a pleasant little emo album, nothing more nothing less

Worst Party Ever - Dartland
82

68 is pretty low, idk I loved this ! at first I was not impressed with the vocals at all, and I still wish the guy let loose a few times. but man this album is so fun. I'm a sucker for this pop punk/emo sound, so it makes sense that I enjoy this more than most. but this album doesn't really let up, and it doesn't overstay its welcome at all. also it's produced really well ! provenance especially fucking rips

Chatterton - Fields Of This
73

I don't know if I'll ever listen to this in full again, but idk I liked it ! surprisingly versatile little indie rock album with vocals that did next to nothing for me. they're not bad at all, they just don't stand out whatsoever. I do really enjoy a few of these songs tho, and the pedal steel ??? saxophone ??? those were awesome

acloudyskye - This Won't Be The Last Time
77

if I heard this album in 2016 it would probably be my favorite album of all time

okay in preparation for this album, I listened to acloudyskye's last album and it didn't really do a whole lot for me. it was generally very pretty and pleasant, but otherwise felt kinda empty and like the lyrics were too full of cliches to leave any impact. I'm happy to say that this one is noticeably better, I really liked this one !

the lyrics feel more specific and may tell a larger story that ... read more

venturing - Ghostholding

after 4 full listens, yeah this is undeniably great ! it is technically my least favorite jane release tho. it’s just that some of these songs, though good, don’t have anything particularly memorable to them. or the melodies jane is riding aren’t catchy, or they sound almost random or flailing, or that they could’ve used more refinement. that being said, I’d say half the songs on this album are legitimately amazing, with my favorite non-singles being play my ... read more

YOU GAVE ME THE SICKEST HEAD

okay when I saw the user score at 35, I thought “they have to be exaggerating right?” no unfortunately this is buns.

I went back to my rating for honestly nevermind, and I genuinely like that album more than this one. at least honestly nevermind has a couple decent to good songs, and it’s shorter. this has nothing that I would ever wanna listen to again. literally the best part of this entire album is the instrumental outro on the closer. it is ... read more

Tigers Jaw - Tigers Jaw

oh I loved this and will definitely be returning to it. such a fun album and it just breezes by, I kinda wish it was longer. I LOVE the doubled up vocals and when they harmonize with each other it's just so satisfying. I've only listened once so far, but I could see this growing on me even more. really great stuff

Algernon Cadwallader - Some Kind of Cadwallader
77

glad I listened to this, this was some really fun and, at times, beautiful midwest emo ! the vocalist is absolutely destroying his throat, and sometimes that can get really grating and hard to listen to. but for some reason I didn't mind it here, it kinda added to the overall sound. when I got to the last song and thought "holy shit it's 13 minutes long, I can't wait for this", I was kinda disappointed to find out that it didn't do much of anything to warrant that ... read more

Snowing - I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted
75

not much to say, just some very solid midwest emo ! for the first two songs, I did not like the singer much at all, but his voice grew on me a lot by the end. listen to this if you love songs about being a sad alcoholic

acloudyskye - There Must Be Something Here
68

I fully admit that I might be missing something with this first listen, like I don't know if there's an overarching concept or something that went over my head. I think I found this artist via samlrc, and the snippet I heard from their album that drops tomorrow sounded great ! so I listened to this and I'm very torn on it.

acloudyskye is very clearly influenced by many sounds and artists that I love, which makes the sound of this album right up my alley. like this album is very ... read more

Against All Logic - 2012 - 2017

I apologize Nicolas Jaar, for I was not familiar with your game

but yeah this is my first Nicolas Jaar album and it's not even under his actual name. I'd been meaning to listen to this for a while now and I couldn't be happier that I did. god this album is so much fun, especially the first half. gave me similar feelings to Justice's Cross, which I just reviewed earlier, in that it made me dance like an idiot while I was at work. so many great vocal samples and interesting ... read more

Justice - Audio, Video, Disco.

NOTE: I am listening to the spotify version that has Planisphere at the end

I've been kinda scared to listen to these next couple justice albums because of the reputations they have compared to cross. that leads me to say that I liked this far more than I expected to. obviously it's not as good as cross, but this is still really solid overall. gotta mention tho, the song Parade pissed me off because it reminded me of the dire consequences that Queen's We Will Rock You's ... read more

Justice - †

it's been years since I'd listened to Cross in full, and I'm so glad I went back cause holy fuck this album is so good. I will say, The Party has certainly aged and it's far from my favorite song on here, but in a way it feels almost ahead of its time. it's like proto-Kesha or something. so that and DVNO are both good songs, but every other song is like...amazing. the GROOVES on this album are so irresistible, it got me dancing around like an idiot at work. I would say ... read more

Oklou - choke enough

really solid album from oklou ! I will say the first several songs felt like something was missing, but ict was when the album really caught my attention. I'll have to give it multiple listens to see if more of this sticks with me, but harvest sky has been a banger for months now, and blade bird is currently on repeat. and not just because it reminds me of "is there really no happiness?" by porter robinson

Larry June - Life Is Beautiful
69

I’m still waiting to be blown away again by an alchemist album, as it’s been a while. I’m not expecting an alfredo or bo jackson anything like that, but most of the albums I’ve heard from him the last couple years have not stuck with me at all and it feels like he’s on cruise control. this isn’t bad at all tho ! 2 chainz sounds surprisingly really good over alchemist beats, but larry june has rarely done much for me. like he’s kinda smooth, but ... read more
