I love phil elverum
granted I haven't heard all of his music yet, but something about his music just clicks with me on such a visceral emotional level. I love his voice and his vocal delivery, stuck between singing and spoken word. I love his naturalistic and environmentalist themes. his music often makes me feel like I'm in the wilderness, and this album is no different. even though many of these songs are very different from each other, this album is so transportive. like I listen ... read more
relisten for the first time in years before I listen to night palace
I fucking love this man, I love his voice and his writing and everything I’ve heard from him. and this album is pretty unlike anything I’ve ever heard, just such a unique and kinda otherworldly experience. love the super amateur sound of this, it’s really charming and complementary to the writing and vocals. admittedly I haven’t looked into many of the lyrics on here yet, but I can’t wait to do ... read more
I’m like actually kinda worried for Uzi while listening to this. idk it just sounds wrong. obviously the whole nitrous thing makes me feel like this was made in some 2 week nitrous rager or something. like there’s a couple kinda good songs on here, but the rest is just. nothing. hope they’re alright
first listen, I knew I liked it but I felt a little disappointed by it. second listen, I went from liking it to loving it. I'm 4 full listens in and yeah this is just as good as his previous 3. I feel like this man is incapable of making a bad album, like there is clearly so much love and thought put into his albums including this one. I skip judge judy at this point, but that's not even a bad song necessarily, just my least favorite. otherwise, so many amazing songs on here, and the ... read more
yeah I mean I'm never gonna listen to it again with the exception of the novo amor and ethel cain songs, maybe the M.A.G.S. as well. none of these were bad necessarily, just hard to justify listening to them when the original songs are so much better. only in the green because ethel's cover is so incredible. I even like it more than the original, which is so rare.
I've listened through this like 4 times now, and okay yeah it's really good. I don't know why I'm saying it like that as if I wasn't expecting, or didn't want it to be good. I love black midi so I figured this would be good. but listening to it now after the demise of the band, it makes total sense why this couldn't have been a black midi album. it has some similarities, but it makes way more sense as a greep album. but yeah, this shit is crazy and funny and ... read more
I cannot listen to this album without crying at least once or twice. one of the most beautiful and emotionally evocative albums I've ever heard. and it SOUNDS perfect, like this is ear candy. even though obviously isaac is no longer with the band, I have no doubt that they'll continue to make great music going forward. like every song is just showing an insane amount of talent from every member. absolutely incredible
I cannot believe this album is only 6 songs and 40 minutes, it feels longer in the best way possible. such a special debut album. don't even have much to say, it's just great rock music and isaac wood is a generational performer
probably my least favorite bon iver album, but it's still very good ! there are a lot of highs on here, but most of them aren't like all time highs for him. I'd say the only songs on here that I'd consider all time bon iver tracks are iMi and Sh'Diah, and the rest of the songs range from amazing to just okay, not really doing much at all for me. still a beautiful album with a lot of great songs on it, but all of his other albums have done more for me
my introduction to bon iver was back when I used pandora on my pc like almost 10 years ago, and michicant came on and it just swept me away. I was obsessed with it and it was the only song I knew from him for at least a year. then I listened to a couple other songs like holocene and skinny love. didn’t listen to this full album until a few years ago, and I liked it but didn’t quite understand the hype
I get it now. it’s not perfect, but god damn this is magical. it’s ... read more
going back through all of bon iver’s stuff after the release of his new EP
not my first listen, but it’s been a while. I totally get the hype, even if there’s a couple songs on here that don’t really stick with me. that being said, so many of these songs are incredible. re:stacks is one of the greatest songs of all time. good for crying to
edit: 85 -> 88
yeah I listened again and it’s even better. creature fear and especially team don’t do much for me, ... read more
going back through all of tyler’s stuff before chromakopia comes out on monday ‼️ okay so these last 3 tyler albums are the ones that I’m most familiar with, so it’ll be interesting to see how the older ones hold up
but anyway, even though this is my least favorite of the 3 most recent tyler albums, it’s still wonderful ! I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I think dj drama is mostly fine and funny on here, only occasionally annoying. otherwise this ... read more
going back through all of tyler’s stuff before chromakopia comes out on monday ‼️ okay I have to start by explaining the context of when this album came out. literally a week before igor came out, I was broken up with out of a 4 year relationship and at the time, it absolutely crushed me. then one of my favorite artists comes up with a breakup album ??? unbelievable
but no this album is incredible. before today, it had been a year or two since I’d heard it in full. and yet I ... read more
going back through all of tyler’s stuff before chromakopia comes out on monday ‼️ fuck I love this album. this might be corny but this album helped me come out to more people and become more comfortable with my sexuality. even ignoring that, it’s just such a good album, and his best up until that point. like he SOUNDS more free than he ever had before and you can really feel that. so many classic songs on here that have stuck with me ever since the first listen
I am now a jean dawson fan
I’d heard his previous two albums once each and remember liking them, but this one is really really really doing it for me. like this SOUNDS amazing, with the piano and strings and everything else. jean is such a great performer too, he puts his all into a lot of these performances on here. also the first song is one of my favorite songs I’ve heard in a minute, I can’t stop listening to it. but yeah really great album !
I keep having this thing where I’ll listen to an album, come up with my rating, look it up on here, and see that the user rating is the same number I was gonna rate it
anyway this album is so good. I’d heard a few songs from it but not the whole thing until yesterday, but wow what a transportive album. I know this isn’t a particularly original comparison, but I felt like I was walking through a dingy city at 2am, which I know is kinda what burial was going for, but he ... read more
after a first listen yesterday, yeah this is great. didn’t quite stick with me as much as god’s country did, but still such a fun and cathartic album. like the first album, the grooves on this are so good, the drums sound great, and the vocals are insane. I feel like this album sounds a little muddier than the first and I’m sure that’s intentional, but maybe I prefer the less muddy sound of god’s country. still tho, could grow on me with relistens and it’s ... read more
not particularly experienced in this genre, but this is some beautiful atmospheric d&b ! sometimes surprisingly emotionally impactful. don’t know what else to say, just really good shit
CHAT PILE I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR GAME
holy fuck dude this is insane. I’m not that huge of a metalhead or anything, but oh my god this was so good. the vocals are really what I’m obsessing over like they are unreal. even when he’s not screaming his brains out he’s still conveying a lot of emotion
but that’s not to discount the rest of the sound, cause this whole album sounds incredible. the riffs go hard as fuck, the drums sound great, it’s all just ... read more
second full listen of this album since she just announced her second album today ! I like it more than I remembered. it’s not perfect, like a few of the instrumentals sound kinda flat to me. but ethel is such an amazing performer that it doesn’t really matter. I think with the exception of american teenager, the album ends stronger than it starts. but just like I remembered, the scream on ptolemaea makes me tear up every time. such a good album, can’t wait for the new one !
