setting aside the fact that I am in love with this woman, I enjoyed this more than I expected to ! and I don't want that to sound mean or like an insult. it's just that I've generally LIKED lucy's albums, but not loved any of them. this is the most I've enjoyed a lucy album so far, though it's been a while since I've heard her previous ones. but no this was beautiful from front to back. nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn't have to be. this is just some ... read more
LISTENING TO BLADEE'S DISCOGRAPHY IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER
so unfortunately this sucked. bladee's on cruise control and honestly thaiboy was really bad on this. I haven't heard that much of his other stuff, but I'm assuming and hoping that he's improved since this. he's simultaneously annoying and boring on pretty much this entire thing. and the beats aren't very good either. I can see why no one really talks about this one. 19 minutes felt like at least 30. ... read more

I cannot lie, my hopes were not incredibly high when I saw the cover art to this album, just very confusing and had no idea what the vibe was gonna be. but if you told me it was gonna be deafheaven's best album since sunbather, I would not have believed you. but here we are !
I don't even know where to start, like where the fuck did this COME FROM ??? obviously their last album was not very well received by most people, but I was not ... read more

ngl I was scared about this one, and after listening to it, it was about what I expected it to be. I'm very torn on this album, because there are aspects of it that work, and others that really don't. obviously this is deafheaven's softest, dreamiest album yet, which could've worked better than it did. I just feel like this album has an identity crisis that really holds it back from being better. part of it wants to ... read more

I became a fan of deafheaven just before this album came out, and so I remember being so hyped for the rollout, with honeycomb being an incredible single. and I listened to the album twice when it came out and remember loving it ! I even saw them live while they were touring for this album and they were just amazing. but it's been years since I've heard this album, and it's just as great as I remembered ! although I ... read more

so before today, I had only heard this album once, years ago. and I'm happy I got to relisten to it cause yeah this was great. I feel kinda bad for continuously mentioning sunbather in these reviews, but it's impossible not to, it's literally one of my favorite albums ever. this definitely had a darker, more somber tone than sunbather which I like a lot. also jack shirley knows how to produce a deafheaven album, jesus ... read more

so sunbather is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I'm not nearly as familiar with all of their other albums. before listening to these in order, I'd only heard new bermuda once, and ordinary corrupt human love twice. this album was entirely new to me. this makes sense as sort of a precursor to what they would do on sunbather a couple years later. it feels a bit more samey and less dynamic than sunbather, and the ... read more

YOOOOOOOOO WHAT THE FUCK WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW GOOD THIS IS
I didn't know what I was expecting going into this, but I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I thoroughly loved this and I think that's the first time I can say that about a bladee album. pretty much everything on this worked for me, all the songs are at least good, many of them are great. the beats are incredible, bladee's sliding ... read more

I mean it's alright ! definitely more in his cloud rap bag on this, and I thought it was just okay. obviously bladee's not known for being a great singer but some of his singing on this is pretty rough, or the autotune doesn't sound all that good over his vocals. the instrumentals are all pretty interesting, but not his best either. everlasting flames is fire tho, and there are quite a few good songs on this. I just ... read more
I don’t know how I feel about reviewing this album, because I don’t wanna be super negative about a smaller artist. but at the same time, I need to get out my thoughts because I have so many.
months ago, I heard the single “brightness of vega” with brakence because I love brakence, and I thought it was okay. guy is obviously influenced by brakence but was going at that sound a bit differently, again it was just fine. then today my release radar showed that he dropped a ... read more
I listened to this once when it came out and thought it was okay. I was just reminded of it again today and thought I’d give it another shot. I think I get it now cause this was so lovely. originally I was thrown off by the sound of it, but this time I just fell right into it and let it consume me. this might be a weird comparison, but the strange production style kinda reminds me of the charm of bon iver’s more abstract stuff. and not that this is abstract, but some of these songs ... read more
I was enjoying this quite a bit, and then I got to ‘saosin’. and I thought “oh wow a 13 minute song ! I can’t wait to see what they do with that length”, only for them to provide 9 minutes of silence. so basically a quarter of this album is complete silence. that really soured my opinion on this whole thing
WHAT THE FUCK I AM SPEECHLESS
I just relistened to ‘come in’ earlier today in preparation for this. I loved that album a lot, but I was not ready for just how great this album is. this kinda clears their last album in every way. the highs are just as high, if not higher, it’s even more fun, more emotionally potent, catchier. like this is incredible, and I didn’t feel its length at all, it could’ve gone on even longer and I wouldn’t have minded. come in grew ... read more
shoutout deadair for reminding me that this album exists because this kicks ass holy fuck. just some really exhilarating noise rock with a great vocalist. I still need to read into the lyrics, but for a first listen, it almost doesn't matter because the sound of this is so pummeling. but yeah not much to say, just great and so much fun to listen to. can't wait for whatever they put out next !
just listened to this in preparation for hornet disaster ! this was my third full listen and my first in quite a while. the first two times, I remember liking it, then really liking it. but it's really clicked this time, I love this shit a lot. what's always held me back a little bit was just the super lo fi presentation, but this time I found it to mostly complement the album rather than distracting from it. part of me feels like I'd love this album even more if it was not so lo ... read more
even when she doesn’t say anything it’s still some of the most beautiful shit I’ve ever heard. this is such a great comfort listen, like it’s impossible to listen to this and not feel totally at ease. I don’t know if they were part of the instrumental recordings or if they were added later, but I love the field/nature recordings. it just feels like you’re in some lush meadow listening to her play her guitar and chimes. absolutely gorgeous
what a cool mix of sounds going into this ! love the elements of glitch and bitcrushing. I think the first half of this is super strong, but it ends kinda weak with the last couple songs. but overall I thought this was great and thoroughly enjoyable !
SUBJECT TO CHANGE
okay I don’t really know where to start with this. I guess I’ll start by saying that this did NOT need to be 30 songs long. I’d say if he kept the best 15 of these songs, it would be a really good, maybe even great album. like there are quite a few good and great songs on here, but there are just as many that leave pretty much no impact, and a handful that are kinda bad. I like the vocal diversity a lot, but also he has like 1 1/2 flows for the deep ... read more
first thing I’ve ever heard from drug bug, this was really sick ! such an interesting mix of sounds and genres going into this, I haven’t heard anything quite like it. the vocals can occasionally be kinda annoying, and I didn’t catch many of the lyrics so I can’t say much on them. but again, really cool mix of sounds on this and I’d definitely recommend it !
saoirse dream liked my tweet I’m never going to fail
anyway this was really nice ! saoirse is insanely talented and I look forward to seeing what she does after this album. definitely very indebted to jane and underscores, but if I made music, I would be too. a few of the lyrics are definitely kinda cringe, and the meme sounds are a little distracting and don’t really add to these songs at all. but this album ends really strong with the last two songs, maybe my two favorites
