A solid album, Simz still in great conscious lyrical form, but much more boring beat choices than her previous work. Feels like an album to hold over till a next bigger release
This album sounds like a revolution and your personal therapy session
At the same time cutting, catchy, soulful, and emotional. Little Simz showing off just how lyrical she is
RTJ advancing hardcore hip hop all the way into the far future. A transient effort for hip hop production. Contains two of their absolute best songs ever with the "yankee and the brave" and "Out of Sight." And possibly their best closer
RTJ's biggest project. A hardcore first half with many of their catchiest most fun banges to date and a later half of fantastic psychedelic cuts. Only problem with this album is made Stay Gold a staple for their setlist. Kill Your Fucking Masters.
RTJ with even more energy than their debut, some of their best cuts, amazing beats, catchiest rhymes ever. A Must Listen for any hardcore rap fan
From the first song I wondered where this had been all my life. An absolutely Nasty Debut from one of the most legendary duos in hip hop history. Rhymes wordy and catchy, beats complex, electronic, hardcore, and infectious
A pretty mild ending to a previously unparalleled career and flawless track record, not much special on both the instrumental and lyrical sides respectively
A great uplifting Roots record with so much soul and spirit. Some more mild beat choices and weird hooks take it down a peg below their previous work but still very good.
The Roots's darkest, grittiest album. Their most hardcore work and it works very well. Black Thought shows off just how murderous he can be. Questlove composes the hardcore drum beats masterfully
Another underrated quality album. The Roots with some of their most hard hitting, funky, and soulful instrumentals. Black Thought in Peak form with some of his most focused lyrical efforts to date. The J Dilla tribute is beautiful as well, and one of his greatest beats. Only flaw is really one or two meh hooks from odd singers which goes on to be a regular problem with the Roots in my opinion.
A more mild version of The Roots's classic formula of jazzy instrumentals and rhymes
An underrated masterpiece from the legendary Roots crew. Some of the most creative, funky, rocking rap cuts ever recorded
Just about the only problem I have with this album is the final song isn't quite as satisfying a conclusion as I want. It's more like one of the other interesting rhythmically unconventional deep cuts. Besides that this album is perfection. After a recent relisten it sounds even better than before. Every song is great. One thing that stood out to me is the chemistry between the different MCs. I think here, more than on any other Roots album, the trading of verses between Black ... read more
Death Grip's grossest, nastiest, most icky album. Feels like the soundtrack to liminal spaces and the backrooms, which is good cause I love cursed shit.
