Thank you so much to my friend for urging me to listen to this album. 10 years after this album released and it's aged like a fine whine... a fine whine that somehow gained sentience and looks you right in your soul. Proving 2015 as genuinely one of the greatest years in music.
this album is a melancholic masterpiece. The vocals are so raw and understated mixed with the vivid first person writing with themes of family, loss, spirituality and religion. couple that with the pretty ... read more
why's the rating on here so low? I mean sure it's not their best work but I still think the production on here is pretty solid and I think higher ground and big black void are annoying songs but I dont think this is completely irredeemable.
that being said, this album is definitely repetitive
river and the first half of 530 are the only redeemable things about this project, for fuck sake Kanye vultures 1 was already bad how the fuck can an artist as popular as you release something so lazy and unfinished it's fucking beyond me.
I can no longer separate the art from the artist when the artist has now become infused with the art. Fuck Kanye west and fuck this album.
this is really nothing special. It's really not anything special as far as slowcore goes it's just aight...
but why does it feel so soul crushing at times? it feels weird reviewing an album that I personally don't think is very good and yet it hits me right where it hurts. you should really just listen to duster but I'd be lying if some of this album didn't really FEEL relatable and feel like you're just entirely alone
my first full listen to a 2hollis project and I honestly really like what I'm hearing. I've heard songs here and there and this man's talent is undeniable. He's made waves in both the rage, hyperpop and digicore scenes and I'm pretty sure we could all consider him a mainstay.
The production on this project is pretty great, if a little too undersold at points. I think the biggest problem with this project is that 2hollis is kinda selling himself short and not really ... read more
No man. no this isn't it
listen no matter what you think of eminems music post 2002, we can all agree this is awful but I'm not here to completely trash it cause I do think there is a few diamonds in the rough here. well, 2 actually.
Castle and arose are both beautiful songs and sure a tad bit melodramatic, but goddamnit they're super heartfelt and I may have shed a tear. Castle specifically could be considered a top 10 song in em's discography it's genuinely ... read more
By far em's most divisive project. Half hails it as a masterpiece and half think it's weak at best and cringe at worst. so where do I lie? I mean even em has gone on record to say he hates it.
This is em's first full on attempt at a concept album with it being full on horrorcore, 3 a.m kinda shows what this album is in one track. Em rapping with this weird accent, a fire dre beat that sounds straight out of a slasher movie. I wish I liked this song but em's voice really ... read more
There's some great stuff and great ideas on here. while it may have been considered groundbreaking for the time, in some ways this project has aged pretty poorly and it's mostly cartoony fun and sone heartfelt moments... oh and 97 bonnie and Clyde.
The fun songs include songs like: my name is, Role model and my fault where there's a lot of dark humour sprinkled in there without seeming too edgy. My fault is probably my favourite example where em tells a pretty fucked up story in ... read more
There's no reviews on here so I guess I'm first?
first off I laughed unnecessarily hard looking at this cover while listening. It's also not that easy to find and I could only find the title track at first.
I cant tell if its just bad preservation but this project is really badly mixed, like it just sounds super muddy. Bis does keep up a good rapping performance on here and flip flops between his regular voice and his normal voice. the second half of metal gear metaphors is ... read more
I know this isn't a big album by any means, but imo this is one of the most underrated hip hop albums of all time. With an underwhelming debut album after getting a lot of buzz in the battle rap scene, especially after he came out as the winner in his battle with the legendary LL cool J, people were unsure on where his career would go and most believed he would fizzle out and while 2000 BC was a decent album it never got any major attention due to the poor reception of his first album as ... read more
While i think the blueprint was the better rap album released this year, this album is no slouch and I'd honestly still consider it a classic. After 'I am...'being a mixed bag and 'nastradamus' being a flop critically, along with Jay-Z dropping Takeover which had people questioning how Nas could come back from it, Nas really HAD to come with all he could with this album. his career really depended on it.
Thank God he delivered. the stillmatic intro is solid but where ... read more
Do I need to speak on this album?
I will anyway. This album is as perfect as everyone says it is and when people say you could rebuild hip hop from the ground up from this album and erase everything released before and after, you really could. Nas was so young when he wrote this and yet the bars, the flows, rhyme schemes and storytelling are all so razor sharp that it makes me wonder how you could have released a hip hop album at the time after this without feeling insane pressures. The ... read more
I'm sorry I really wanna like this mixtape but I just don't.
If it's any consolation I think this project has some of his highest highs. Veteran is great, the title track, Jetlggd, VTMNSCOAT, TURNINUP, <3MYGNG and maybe a couple more are decent but those are the only ones I return to. the project as a whole is heavily carried by the first half and is honestly quite bloated cause there are so many songs that just add fuck all to the listening experience. they all just bleed ... read more
this review has aged really bad in terms of how i feel about it this tape, its no longer his best imo
this is lones best project... wow...
I have fuck all to say about it.
it's just kinda nothing downright atrocious, but there's a couple of songs I think are decent, but i never go back to them. I may dislike ILKK and no stylist but at the very least they've got songs I go back to and unironically think are great. i think the production on here is pretty solid, lones voice ... read more
goddamn I wish this album wasn't leaked.
very clearly supposed to follow up The eminem show the same way MMLP did for SSLP, Encore is a Mess of immature lyrics that are the equivalent of a bad south park episode if Matt and tre parker lost their frontal lobe on top of it, as well as some legitimately great, sincere and powerful moments scattered here and there. With the most popular song on here being mockingbird, I'm sure most people would assume that this album would have some ... read more
while in many ways this album has aged poorly, this album is undeniably a classic.
Em's delivery's and flows are at their best, spits with the level of aggression I love from him during this period of time. legitimately the only changes I would make to this album is: take off bizarre on amityville and take off the ken knife skit.
the rhyme schemes on em's 3rd verse on remember me?, his flow on kill you, the storytelling on stan and kim and the pure emotions of songs like the ... read more
I don't even wanna say anything about this record cause it's all been said before but this is one of the best albums of all time and a top 5 rap album at least. arguably the greatest and is in my top 3
this is the worst project released out of every opium signee. why the fuck did i listen to this
