Edit: 91->96
I am genuinely surprised by the low ratings for this album as this is front to back my favorite Future album since 2019 “The Wizrd”. Similar to that album it feels incredibly cohesive while simultaneously changing up the trademark Future sound that has become to dominate the rap landscape. I did enjoy “We Dont Trust You” but I felt it fell off towards the back half, especially the last four songs. This album is longer, 30 min longer in fact, but ... read more
I haven’t listened to a full album of Logics’ since “Under Pressure” dropped. I remember liking that album a lot. However, when I tuned back into his music “Everybody” had dropped and I found that album incredibly underwhelming. Upon seeing this album listed as one of the top Conscious Hip Hop albums of the year I decided that this was a perfect time to dive back into his work and I’m really glad I did! The thing that instantly struck me about this ... read more
My favorite of the Slime Season projects! So glad its on streaming which hopefully gets more people to check it out. Despite its long length I find no filler on it and I’ve been listening to it consistently since it came out in 2015. The beat selection is amazing and Thug’s flows are at their most eccentric here.
95->100. This album is perfect. The more I listen to it the further I get lost in its subtle yet intoxicating atmospheric flourishes. The long instrumental passages remind me of “Disintegration”, which is one of my top 10 albums of all time. It’s an astounding feat that a band can release one of the best albums of their career 45 years into their career.
For months one question has been crawling around my mind, occasionally coming out of the darkness to scream at me. “Why haven’t you reviewed this album? It’s procured so many deep-seated emotions in your mind yet you refuse to write them down.” The answer to that is a lingering sense of shame. Shame that if I put these thoughts out into the world they’d somehow be tainted through exposure. However, as the question in my mind became more prominent I decided that I ... read more
Most I’ve enjoyed a Willie Nelson album since 2017’s excellent “God’s Problem Child” and most Trigger focused Nelson album since 1996’s “Spirit”.
72->86. I have a confession to make. I really love U2. My interest in them actually began February 2009 when this exact album came out. Seeing the mesmerizingly minimalist cover on billboards and bus stops intrigued me. Then my friend Elena, whose mother was obsessed with “Joshua Tree” era U2 while she was obsessed with “Achtung Baby” era U2, handed me this CD. I was awe struck by the sheer sonic scope of the album. From the pop rock of “Magnificent” to ... read more
Rating: 96–>100. A modern day classic in a string of varied albums that Beyonce has been slowly but steadily putting out ever since “4” presented her with newfound creative freedom. I managed to catch the live tour. Despite my leg beyond broken Beyonce and her back up troupe’s sheer charisma had a cripple dancing with a cane. Proof music miracles are possible. To circle back to this album it is easily on the level of her self titled while not quite reaching the insane ... read more
As a huge fan of the original this is a absolute insult to it’s spirit. No matter if you liked “Pink Friday” or loathed it you have to admit that it had a undeniable zany energy. This album has none of that, and none of her off the wall hyper characters are present here at all. Instead, we’re presented with overlong streaming bait as Nicki desperately tries to hop onto every popular pop wave that’s trending right now.
In time for “Eternal Atake 2” I wanted to give you all my Uzi hot take. This is my second favorite Lil Uzi album. The only album that I prefer to this is “Lil Uzi Vs The World”, a flawless front to back listen. Put down your pitchforks momentarily, I know this is “Luv Is Rage 2” slander, and while I truly do love that album I have a slight preference for “Pink Tape”. It has a fantastic range of sounds and despite this musical variety I find it to ... read more
Can the basement Fantano reviews his records out of collapse already?
As a pretty big fan of “Stoney” “Hollywood’s Bleeding” “Beerbongs and Bentlys” and even the much maligned “Twelve Carat Toothache” I came into this with a open mind. However, this album is somewhere between painfully asinine and tediously stereotypical. Even Chris Stapleton and Dolly Parton can’t save this mess. Meanwhile, “Wrong Ones” “I Had Some Help” and “Pour Me A Drink” could’ve been ... read more
When this album came out it was the one Swans album I didn’t really get. I found the drone passages especially to be too unnerving to have any replay value. Now for Halloween I decided to go through Swans discography and boy oh boy did this album hit hard! Previously I had mainly played “To Be Kind” and “The Glowing Man” while playing this album rarely if ever. Now I can’t stop playing this remarkable exploitation into the depths of insanity. Every drum hit ... read more
Absolutely amazing album that deserves more shine than just eight ratings.
This is one of the best Lou Reed solo albums, it's in the top five for sure. The title track is my favorite Lou Reed song and one of my favorite compositions ever made. However, having "If I Was Black" as the following song is the sonic equivelent of being slapped in the face. "Dirt" and "shooting star' are some of the best Lou deep cuts ever too. The binural production of this album makes it a treat for anyone with a good pair of headphones too.
I NEED a volume 2, this flew by so fast. Had so much fun listening to it
Fantastic return to form. After not being really that into "Highway 600" I found this project to be significantly more cohesive with much better production. Also really liked the features! If you're already a spitta fan you would be doing yourself a favor in checking this one out!
I have so much to say about Brat Summer and the album that proceeded this phenomenon. It’s been an absolutely riveting event to experience and one that proves that pop music is far from dead. Just give the public their requisite bops and you don’t even need 36 variants to keep them hooked. My opinion on this collection has changed significantly from the drop date. In fact, this is my third time rating this album. From 93 to 97 to 100, but third time’s the charm! At first, I ... read more
Been listening to Lupe since "The Cool" came out and I'm so glad he made it through how hard Atlantic Records fucked him over.
