Severely underrated album. Other than the woefuly misplaced "I know the what the girls like" there is not a single skip on this record. In fact this album contains many of my favorite jay z songs including the opening, "the city is mine", "lucky me" "imaginary player" and "you must love me".
1 point for accurate title. Listening to this makes me wanna unalive. Everything I’ve learned about Morie Cantaloupe The Antelope has been against my will.
This is so beautiful. Contrary to the title these series of EPs are far from mid.
Extremely slept on project and honestly one of Snoop Dogg's best works. Fantastic production and Snoop delivers fantastic flows all over it. Snoop needed to do more funk oriented work along the lines of this and "Bush"
By far my favorite rock opera of all time. The movie is fantastic and worth a watch if you like this album, there is a reason it's in the Criterion Collection. Stands head and shoulders over all of The Who's other work.
One of Willie Nelson's best albums in my opinion. The band they cooked up for this record is just outstanding and keeps every track interesting. Emmylou Harris does a fantastic job providing harmonies over this record and Willies' Trigger is given some fantastically open acoustics to shine over.
Listen to this in mono and you'll find a album filled with contagious energy and great performance. I think their pre "Aftermath" work is in desperate need of re-evalution
By nature of being a major label studio debut this project is forced to walk the tightrope every major label debut walks. This is the tightrope of not alienting the audience ammased by the sound of his mixtape while having radio songs that will expand their audience. Thankfully, this album walks that line perfectly and should be seen as a prime example of how to manage this incredibly difficult task.
This album changed my life. Came out exactly a week after my fiance's death and the abrasive experimental energy helped me get thru the excruciating drives to work at this hell hole of a call center. I wasn’t even a carti listener before, despite having heard die lit a few times I didn't fully get the hype. However, this album feels like a punk artist with brain damage decided to rap over the most innovative beat selection to hit the mainstream since yeezus.
The more I listen to this album the more I believe Billie has reach a artistic peak of perfection
Rodeo is great but this is the true peak of psychadelic trap. The sheer variety of sounds and the concise nature of the project makes this the best project to start with if you want Thug at his strangest yet most accessible.
This album is severely underrated. The first five songs alone are worth the price of admission, being brilliant pieces of extended jazz based jamming. The album leans towards jazz overall and is a surprisingly cohesive experience for a collection of vault tracks. Do not skip over this album!
This is absolute perfection. I can't believe there is a EL-P+ Trent Reznor collab that I never heard before now. The production on this album perfectly fits the dystopia of late stage capitalism.
I been following Kamasi now for a while ever since his amazing arrangements on TPAB were highlighted in multiple articles during the project's press run. Seeing him evolve over time has been a beautiful experience. On this album he combines the massive melodies of "The Epic" with the more atmospheric and often ambient approach of "Heaven And Earth". Combined with the packed roster of guests and fantastic pacing this quickly becomes the first flawless album of 2024.
