What is he scheming to himself on this cover? Look at those eyes, what is he building in there?
I will need at least three more listens before I decide whether this is worth a perfect 100. For now though it's easily the most distinctive, creative and cohesive project released so far this year. Her fourth classic in a row, absolute heavenly music that I can already tell has insane replay value.
One of the most important pieces of music for anyone even remotely interested in the history of rock and roll. I am not a religious person but when experiencing this album I feel a primal divine energy bursting from the record. I find this album to be quite underrated in the grand scheme of things. Sister Tharpe's energetic guitar playing captures this raw rock and roll energy that was way ahead of its time and her voice has a power to it that is indescribable through words alone.
Genuinely becoming one of my favorite musical discoveries of the past few years. Side A is perfect, absolutely divine melodies that make my head spin in a sort of pop induced whirlwind. Side B slows down a bit with the last few songs being a collection of fantastically arranged ballads. The pure immediacy of the energy in each arrangement is stunning and if you care for 60s pop at all do yourself a favor and check this out.
Young Thug has some off his most eccentric delivery and flows on this album. When this came out in 2014 it made me a thugger fan forever. Also him and rich homie have fantastic chemistry and its a crying shame tha pt 2 never occured.
Madonna has been living through cycles of continuous reinvention since the spritely age of twenty-two. Due to this, there are many contenders for the best sonic reinvention throughout her diverse discography. However, there is no contender that represents a greater leap forward in quality than “Like A Prayer”. This album features beautiful psychedelic balladry, moments of brutally honest vulnerability and certified smash hits. The pacing of this work cements it as one of the best ... read more
The more I analyze this album the more I love it. Also I want to point out there is a fascinating syllabus on this album that you should look up. This album deserves a close analysis.
I really love how ahead of their time Tom and Ben are. The year has barely started and they already teamed up to drop the worst song of 2024. A whole song about their feelings and how they don't care about the facts.
Made me feel emotions I didn't know I had and remember things I thought I forgot.
I am a different person after giving this album a concentrated listen.
A ferocious beast of nature and one of the most unique pieces of music ever made with a backstory just as intense as the sonics at hand.
Simply one of my favorite albums of all time. Unique otherworldly sounds by a young Timbaland just starting out. Missy Elliott seems made for his production, a fact that would be cemented over her next three albums that are almost exclusively produced by Timbaland. Missy Elliott's chemistry with him is hypnotic enough to sustain the full one hour runtime. Missy's style possesses a lot of range that was evident right from the get go as her delivery varies from playfully bouncy rhyming to ... read more
This is so funking smooth, I'm getting neck pain from the nonstop head bopping I've been doing for this amazingly cohesive song suite. One of the best closing tracks I've ever heard
This album is such a unique product of early 90s LA, a perfect snapshot of Long Beach.
What surprised me most about this album (besides the amazing reading list that comes with the CD liner notes) is how deep the lyrics are. I had a absolutely enlightening time going into every political reference packed into the lyrics. Brilliant album overall.
You really can't go wrong with any of the first seven Funkadelic albums. They each carry a singular sound but exist within a shared universe of intensely intricate guitar textures and worlds of reverb. This is the album that introduces the classic lineup and answers the eternal question of what is soul. Soul is a joint rolled in toilet paper.
Whenever someone calls this album boring I get one day closer to my joker arc
This is the most psychedelic album of the 70s by far. Some describe it as the musically equivalent to the bad trip but I beg to differ. This is the heady trip that's always teeter tottering between euphoric sensory overload and absolute chaos. The band gets lost in their own sonic madness, with the title track being my personal favorite funkadelic composition of all time. The other tracks are all fantastic too with not a single moment of weakness to be found.
If you're here it's most likely due to the recent Vinyl Me Please reissue of this deep cut. The music here is mostly up-tempo energetic instrumentals funk with some smooth mid tempo pieces in between that make for fantastic pacing. I feel like the replay value here is high as well since this makes both for atmospheric "background" listens and focused listens to hear the insane instrumental interplay. I highly recommend this pressing too, very quiet and clean with a fantastic mastering ... read more
