This album all kind of blurs together for me, and it runs way too long, but the sound is very enjoyable and the lyrics are the most mature FIL's given so far. When It's Love You Want is the high point of the album for me
There's something so charming and warm about this group, on this album especially. Nothing about it is exceptionally deep or unique but it just feels nice and familiar
I can't find much to say about Grouper because her music curls up somewhere so deep. But Headache is so important
I did not know what I was getting myself into the first time I listened to this, and I came out better for it. The Dreaming has challenged me and caused me to grow as a music listener more than any other single project I've found so far. Also the mule solo in Get Out of My House....... Kate Bush could do Mozart but Mozart couldn't do *that*
Running Up That Hill is the greatest song ever made. So is every other song on this album
I liked this album more when it came out, but Dressed to Suppress, the title track, and Love You Back are all still stunning
Empty and Police and the Private are Metric's best songs ever, period. Other parts of this album are almost too cluttered, but the raw anger and exhaustion from Emily's lyrics and vocals makes up for the bits that I'd otherwise turn away from.
This was the first album cycle I saw Starset live for, and hearing some of these songs in person did make me fonder of it. But I have a lot of mixed feelings toward this album. Of their first 3 projects, this one is the least accessible in terms of lore, which can make it frustrating. If you're like me and really only care about the music, this is kind of just a weird breakup-y album with some big anthems.... so like their first 2, but not as campy as Transmissions or nearly as good as Vessels. ... read more
My favorite rock album from the last decade. A fucking odyssey. The instrumentals are tight, atmospheric, and huge, the screams hit hard, and the lyrics are often outright beautiful. I'm not into Starset's lore because I prefer to give my own meanings to songs, and of all their albums I think this one is the most accessible in that sense. It's so easy to get lost in this album, but all of it carries itself through so well. Gravity of You and Everglow changed me as a person when I was 18-19 I ... read more
It's amazing how dated this album sounds (and has sounded for a few years now), considering the rest of Starset's discography. If I wasn't nostalgic for it I'd rate it lower. It was at least a solid start and a good indication of where they'd go on their next projects.
I discovered I Hid In Him late last year and ended up falling in love with this entire EP. Vōx's vocal delivery and lyrics are very minimalist, especially next to sparse instrumentals, but her message is huge, warm, and clear. This is music that loves itself and wants you to feel the same. I can't wait to hear where she goes from here.
It's like it gives you a nice warm sweater to put on while it's gutting you emotionally
I crashed my car while listening to this album last year so regardless of whether I actually think it's perfect (I don’t) we are trauma bonded and best friends forever now
