Insides - Euphoria

Darling Effect is one of my favorite finds from this year and I'm really enjoying this album as a whole. I love how confessional it feels and how gentle (but still funky) the instrumentals are

I listened to this like 3 times and then forgot about everything on it besides Ivy and gold rush. Maybe it was just too much at once since folklore was still so fresh when this came out, but I don't connect with it nearly as much as its sister album. I will give it credit for being a bit more "experimental" (as much as Taylor could ever be) and loose-feeling, and it's still one of her better albums, but it's not particularly special to me

Taylor's best album by a long mile in my opinion. Seven and Epiphany are probably my favorite songs she's ever made. Safe & Sound was always one of my favorites of hers and I can't tell you how thrilled I was that she finally made a whole album with that sound and emotional weight. I haven't come back to it much in 2021 but god this was such a moment last year.

This thing did NOT need to be 18 songs long. Out of that 18 there's maybe 5 songs I genuinely like, and of those 5, Cruel Summer and the Archer are the only songs that really added something to her discography. The rest of it is forgettable, messy, or just outright not good. Even the really embarrassing moments like You Need to Calm Down aren't embarrassing/unintentionally campy enough to be fun like Reputation was

I am aware this album is trash but it's MY trash

A good pop album and not much else

Taylor Swift - Red

This album came out right at the time when I decided I was too edgy and cool to like Taylor Swift, so I didn't listen to it properly until years later. And honestly I don't really get why swifties hype this project up so much? Besides All Too Well and Begin Again nothing about it has ever stood out to me.

This one still fucks unironically

When Taylor's Version came out I was sooo excited to re-listen to this album because it's been probably a decade since I'd heard it all the way through. And it's....... you know. Good. It's fine.

This was my favorite album when I was like 7-8 and I haven't bothered to listen to it all the way through since I was like 11 but it's alright

Paramore - After Laughter

This album seems to have changed the entire alt rock scene because now it seems like virtually *every* band is having a little AL era moment, which is kind of funny. It's not a project I come back to very much but after self-titled it's easily Paramore's strongest work. Pool should've been a single though and I'm forever bitter about that

Paramore - Paramore

So correct of this album to be called Paramore because every single song on this thing is everything I love about this band

I thought All I Wanted was like the most insane tragic shit I'd ever heard when I was 17 and honestly I was right. The string of songs between The Only Exception and AIW are kinda meh (Misguided Ghosts makes me cry but it's not a stand-out either) but the first half of this album + AIW go so fucking hard that I'll give the rest a pass

Paramore - Riot!

I know this is one of The quintessential high school emo albums but honestly, even when I was a high school emo kid, I never thought this album was as strong as everything that came after it. I also don't really like Miz Biz which I'm sure Hayley Williams would be very happy about and everyone else would crucify me for lol. When It Rains is still one of my favorite Pmore songs even though it's objectively not one of their best. Fences, Let the Flames Begin, and crushcrushcrush carry the rest of ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps

I initially checked this album out because I saw the album cover in a stack of CDs at Barnes & Noble and was like "fuck yeah sheet ghost." For some reason I have a hard time listening to this album as a whole, and I don't think it's as strong overall as Punisher, but goddamn Phoebe you've gotta stop doing this to me

I Know the End dragged my corpse through 2020 and then Moon Song spat on it and left me in the dirt to rot

PVRIS - Use Me

Pvris's music always takes a while to grow on me, but it took me until earlier this year to realize this was one of my highlight albums of 2020 lol. This album was pushed as "Lynn Gunn finally stepping to the forefront" but I honestly had never realized that she wasn't there already. Her vocals and writing style are just so infectious and passionate, and although I prefer the sound of All We Know over this, the production here is super slick and glimmery. The album does fall off a ... read more

In 2017 I would've said this was my album of the year, and I still mostly stand by that (though Vessels by Starset and Melodrama by Lorde were literally *right there*). This is Pvris's most atmospheric album imo, with some of their grittiest lyrics and hardest hitting songs to date. Half, What's Wrong, Winter, No Mercy, and Nola 1 are all incredible. Lynn Gunn knows what the hell she's doing and that really shone through on this album.

PVRIS - White Noise

This album has not aged well for me but it's nonetheless still a solid debut with a ton of heart in it
