Glass Animals - ZABA

Toes still fucking bangs

Florence + the Machine - High As Hope
70

Didn't leave much of an impression on me when it came out and that's still mostly true unfortunately. Everything after Sky Full of Song is just met to me, but that first leg of the album is *stunning*, especially Big God and Hunger

Florence + the Machine - How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
90

This album has come to mean more to me as I've gotten older. Which Witch is Florence's best song period though and I'm still bitter it was only a bonus track/demo

Florence + the Machine - Lungs

Everything I do in my wretched little life I do for Florence Welch

Beyoncé - Lemonade

Greatest visual album of all time

Holy Fawn - Realms
70

A solid foundation but generally weaker than everything that's come after it

Grimes - Miss Anthropocene
75

This album has 2 major downfalls: abysmal track ordering and a fancy art college concept that was never going to actually play out the way it was stated. Also We Appreciate Power should've been a standard track. As individual songs I genuinely do like most everything here (So Heavy is my personal favorite Grimes song, and Delete Forever is near perfect except for the fact that she can't fucking enunciate). It's weaker than Art Angel's for sure, but given how long it was in development hell and ... read more

Grimes - Art Angels

My first exposure to Grimes and so the most nostalgic of her albums. Flesh Without Blood and Kill V Maim are still two of her best songs/two of the best pop songs of the 2010s period, but there's really not a bad song here (Butterfly gets very grating over time though). It's the most Finished and polished of Grimes' albums and the one that has the most to actually say. Idk what to say really. I wish more shit sounded like this

Grimes - Visions
85

I listened to this album every single day for months driving to and from college a couple years ago and it awakened something within me. Will report back once I finally figure out what the fuck it is. Grimes please make silly cringe weird girl music again (that's actually good) I'm beggi

Generally the fan favorite Grimes album afaik, but it took multiple years for it to actually grow on me lol. The amount of shit I've heard on bandcamp imitate or straight up rip off this album is astonishing really (and maybe that's just me being a disgusting little Grimes apologist and it's less influential than I think but whatever it's there). Pop from another world but also from some guy's living room or something, the duality of man, tits on the cover, etc

Grimes - Geidi Primes
95

Now that I've officially given up on Grimes as an artist (not because of Elon or whatever performative wokeness people try to feed into, just because her new music is genuinely fucking awful and I can't even defend her on that front anymore) I guess it's time I rate her past albums.
Geidi Primes is actually my favorite Grimes album, and maybe one of my favorite albums in general ever, but I can't really explain why. There's just something so.... genuinely cluttered and warm about it. You can ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION

Run Away With Me is the best song of all time next to Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill (something about 80s/80s inspired alt pop songs by highly acclaimed cult favorite women musicians with "Run" in the title....) and a perfectly crafted pop album overall, though not one I'm in the mood to listen to all the way through very often

yeule - Glitch Princess
78

More diverse and energetic than Serotonin II, for better and for worse. The singles are definitely the highlights here, especially Don't Be So Hard On Your Own Beauty. I also really enjoy The Things They Did For Me Out of Love, it's very soothing, though as an album closer it's 100% a skip. Overall I really enjoy how experimental and different this album is, but it's definitely a grower compared to yeule's previous work

Halsey - Room 93
70

Is There Somewhere is the backbone of this EP, and the other 2 good songs, Ghost and Hurricane (though I'm not hugely fond of Hurricane to be honest) ended up on Badlands, so there's no point returning to Room 93 for them. Empty Gold isn't my personal least favorite halsey song, but it *is* halsey's least favorite halsey song, which should say something. And trouble is just like. Whatever.

Halsey - Manic
80

I don't think about manic much. At least not as a body of work. I think its haphazardness is both a strength and a weakness - halsey played around with a lot of different sounds and most of them paid off, and the idea behind the album holds everything together. But as an actual album, it's hard to define. It's her poppiest project but also isn't. It's her happiest album but also isn't happy in the slightest. It's her most experimental album but also plays it very safe. All of the singles ... read more

Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom

I didn't love hfk that much when it came out, and as I've grown out of being an active halsey fan I only feel more and more lukewarm to it. The production was a step down from badlands as were the lyrics on a lot of songs. Her vocals improved, and the concept could've been interesting if she hadn't abandoned it like 6 months in. Sorry and Bad At Love (despite being general fan favorites) are to this day my least favorite halsey songs, and Lie is shit solely because of the feature. It would've ... read more

Halsey - BADLANDS
97

I could write a novel in defense of this album but the short of it is that it's Good. The end. The lyrics are good, the instrumentals are good, the concept catalyzed a lot of 2010s internet culture in a very nostalgic way. On a personal level it also physically dragged me through the hell of being a teenager and I made several friends because of this album, so, you know. Pry it out of my cold dead hands etc

99

I guess I should expose myself as a filthy little halsey stan. I've been a fan since the room 93 EP and genuinely believe badlands is one of the best pop albums of the 2010s (not just for nostalgia, I genuinely think the instrumentals and lyrical content are fucking killer. It's an incredibly detailed, raw body of work and it's a shame people dismissed it because it was an album explicitly for sad teenage girls by a sad teenage girl/because people felt the need to incessantly compare halsey to ... read more
