Hard for me to dislike this album. A dazzling array of sounds from different genres and cultures.
Atmospheric and haunting. An album to that provides a soundtrack to perilous times. However, it's not as memorable or poignant as I wished it could be.
The album has its moments, it's a solid project overall. However, with most J.Cole albums I don't find anything remarkable about it that will encourage me to continue listening.
Didn't love all of it, but definitely a promising, dynamic set of experimental rock tracks.
An amalgamation of different sounds in rock and jazz that comes together in a beautiful way.
Call Me If You Get Lost is a magnificent, near seamless collection of tracks that encompasses Tyler's past with his present. Outstanding production, surprisingly great vocals and songwriting from Tyler. Add DJ Drama hyping up every track and you have one hell of a hip hop mixtape. With Flower Boy and IGOR, Tyler has made an incredible, arguably historic trilogy of albums.
First Rating 81: Not quite as good as Folklore, but there are some real gems in this album. What a year for Taylor Swift.
Honestly I had issues with the length and its inconsistency. There are some bright moments in this album but they are overshadowed by some dull moments.
First Rating: Late to this album, but it is surprisingly refreshing and versatile. Lovely melodies and sharp songwriting.
First Rating 80: A return to form for Cudi. His best work (excluding Kids See Ghosts) in a long time. He lands on familiar territory but there are some real bangers in here.
First Rating 78: Definitely will have to sit with this one a little longer. Lenker is a gifted songwriter and unique voice.
First Rating 87: Didn't think too much of it at first. But eventually it just sweeps you off your feet. Fantastic combination of dance, R&B, pop, and disco.
Second Rating 91: Only becomes more glorious and uplifting with each listen.
First Rating 83: Sawayama is a unique pop album that manages to combine a variety of genres within its sound. This album certainly has a stronger punch to it the first half than the second half. Nonetheless, this an outstanding debut album.
Second Rating 85: A showcase of incredible versatility. An exciting time for pop music.
Considering I absolutely loved Lonerism and really enjoyed Currents, this was a bit of a disappointment. It shines in moments, but then completely loses me.
First Rating 77: Will take some more time to process. This is pure lyricism and I love it. With every listen I feel like I'm getting closer to entering its thick atmospheric production.
Second Rating: Immersive and incredible lyricism on display.
First Rating 81: Simple and gorgeous. One of the best soul records I've heard this year.
Second Rating 83: Lovely. I could listen to Bittersweet all day.
First Rating 82: Exactly what I imagined it to be. I never thought I would get a Taylor Swift album with The National/Bon Ever vibes, but here we are. There are some truly terrific songs more towards the end of the album. Had it been 10-12 songs this could've really been even more special.
Second Rating 84: Highly impressed with Swift's growth as a songwriter and an artist.
Third Rating 88: It only has improved with each listen.
First Rating: This isn't anything spectacular. But it is a solid hip hop album from start to finish.
