This new Gorillaz in many ways feels like a compilation album with all the different features and different sounds spread throughout the album. I enjoyed maybe around 70% of the songs, some of them were kind of forgettable to me. Nonetheless, this a solid output from the band.
Worked for me in spots. Dreamy instrumentals and soft, melodic vocals. I just don't find anything substantial that will make me want to listen to it more.
First Rating 83: I'm new to this. This is certainly a creative, distinct combination of hip hop with elements of horror. It has a certain cinematic feel to it. Look forward to listening to this more, I might love this even more with time.
Second Rating 88: Quite amazing. Daveed Diggs and Clipping are a unique talent.
I'm not too crazy about this album. It's solid no doubt, but there is nothing here that makes me want to go back for more.
First Rating: 75 This album has a certain calming quality to it. I look forward to diving into the lyrics, but at times it can suffer from being a tad bit monotonous.
Second Rating: Enjoyed it a bit more diving into the lyrics. Still wished there was a little more variety in the sound.
First Rating 80: Had doubts about this album at first. But over time its distinct sound and wonderfully-crafted electronic melodies won me over.
Second Rating 82: The multi-layered production and excellent use of samples really bring forth some rewarding re-listens. This isn't perfect but it's quite lovely.
First Rating: 83, Idles come through with yet another aggressive yet irresistible collection of punk songs that challenge the status quo.
Second Rating: 86, F*** you, I'm a Lover
First Rating: Helplessness Blues was one my favorite albums of the past decade, so I will always love a new Fleet Foxes album. This warm and delightful as their past work is, but it doesn't quite sweep me away. Maybe a few more listens will help me appreciate the new sounds and artistic directions they are taking here.
First Rating: 62 Appreciate the ambition and there are brief moments of beauty but I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy this one.
First Rating: Catchy, post punk songs. It carries an infectious energy throughout and it never really drags.
I tried time and time again but the sounds to this album wasn't conducive to my ears. Appreciate the artistic direction the Weeknd took for this album.
First Rating 78: I went from disliking this to being amazed by this then feeling confused. Going to have to digest this album a few more times to come up with a real opinion. I enjoy the unique delivery of vocals from Sumney and the concepts within the album.
Second Rating 87: This is quite stunning from start to finish. Truly unique instrumentals paired with a truly unique voice and personality.
First Rating 77: Perfume Genius always delivers quality music with raw emotion and impassioned lyrics. I just find myself more gravitated towards his previous work. Maybe I'll enjoy it more with a few more listens.
Second Rating 78 : profound and heartfelt lyrics, but the music side still doesn't push me over the edge to loving this album.
First Rating 81: Being Colombian I was going to have a hard time not liking this album. Interesting combination of cumbia, folk, and art pop.
Second Rating 85: There just isn't anything out there that sounds exactly like this. It's such a vibrant collection of wholesome songs.
First Rating 84: Freddie Gibbs paired with the right production always leads to something special. I'm not if it's as good as his work with Madlib, but Alfredo is a pretty fulfilling hip hop meal.
Second Rating 85: A full course meal.
Lovely.Wonderful tribute to Spanish folk, it felt right at home for me. I don't know how it is possible to hate this.
First Rating: Blu & Exile put together an extensive hip hop album that helps remind you of everything you love about the genre. It really wears its jazz and soul influences on its sleeves. This is a rather long album so it will take some time for me to fully digest it.
Second Rating 79: I'm not in love with the length of the album, but there is still much to admire about this wonderfully crafted hip hop album.
First Rating: 88, This is like a warm bowl of sunshine. A collection of fantastic songs to soothe your anxiety and senses. Exactly what I searching for in a stressful time.
Second Rating 90: Nothing short of lovely and profound.
First Rating: 84, Certainly one of the most consistent hip hop artists lately. Curry's unique delivery, lyricism, and presence is adaptable to many styles of hip hop. In this album he takes more of a traditional boom bap type of production, and it works. This is like a snack size Madvillainy.
Second Rating 85: Gets better with each listen. Only crime is that line against Pixar.
