okay so first thank you to @TrailTraveler for pushing me to listen to this cause i had just been putting it off lmao
i'll start with a complaint first about this album. my issue is that james blake plays it quite safe on this record, the production is still amazing but i know how mind-blowing it could've been.
that's my only real issue, other than that this is a great record, and one that i was looking forward to when it was announced. safe to say im pleasantly surprised with ... read more
my only question after listening is how i didn't hear of this man before. i didn't even know he was a feature on late registration. this is a great rap album. nothing completely mind-blowing but just very satisfying, well done, and successful endeavour.
lupe's delivery is something that is a highlight for me, he's a very technically skilled rapper clearly. the lyrics are witty, concise, and punchy. the whole album kinda skates by in a quick half-hour, almost making me want ... read more
(A QUICK NOTE: im trying to do longer reviews, any tips about my writing would be so appreciated)
in honour of her glastonbury set tonight i thought i'd give this a go - jessie ware is a singer i know very briefly, from enjoying what's your pleasure in 2023 (still haven't logged on this site but oh well) but never looking at her other music as well as her magnum opus in people's eyes - 2020's “What's Your Pleasure?”
this album in one word is just ... read more
(this is taken from my letterboxd review of the concert film but it still fits here i think)
"i ask that we all grow and we all connect. and lord thank you so much for choosing us, and thank you so much for bringing these people in my life. we give you all the praise and glory amen"
sometimes i truly am confused when people call beyoncé overrated because i think she is truly one of the only people to use her references properly, whether it's the ballroom in renaissance ... read more
camila cabello is an artist i had grown up with since her fifth harmony days. crying in the club is actually one of the first songs i remember truly loving as a child (which is quite embarrassing but oh well) and obviously her work with quavo i loved (and her havana era in general) nevertheless, i was right in the middle of it all even as a little gay boy. but this, i don't wanna be in the middle of this.
safe to say i expected this album to be quite bad, ⅔ of the singles were very ... read more
holy fuck this album blew my mind - icl i have never listened to mr. jpeg before up until this point, obviously i knew about the scaring the hoes album which was all the rage last year but i never got around to it (i still haven't but trust in 2 weeks). but i decided to listen to this first - since this is his highest rated work and it completely deserves this rating, i didn't dislike or even find any part of this album mid, the production makes me feel like im going through different ... read more
if i had to describe what straight people camp is, this is that
lou reed is so interesting to me, he is one of the weirdest songwriters i have ever met but its still so beautiful. perfect day is a masterpiece. andys chest and vicious are completely batshit. walk on the wild side is raunchy and oddly hilarious, and this is only the first half of the album. we don't really know if lou reed was queer or not, i don't think he even really knew himself, but i see him as a gay icon to me, ... read more
i listened to this on release when i wasn't on this website, this holds very dear to my heart even if i hadn't gotten round to putting my rating here yet
i have always disliked this album, and as a british person this has been all over the radio for me since release. this sounds so uninspired and boring. this was a regression for charli majorly, and there are only songs i tolerate, not like. i never return to this album and there's a reason why
