"I'm soaring without anything" is a straight edge bar

Anyway, this is very good! I mean listen, Lazy Eye is maybe one of my favorite songs, so for a while I always worried that this was one of those albums that just didn't match up to that one flash of genius. But, my friend Reese told me it wasn't the case here, and she's right. While I do think that song does surpass others in the tracklist by a lot, (which mostly speaks to just how good that song is) ...I came ... read more

(20 --> 70)

Alright, alright, alright... idk what came over me. This band comes back to me every so often and I found myself listening to songs off this again, and it didn't sound as bad as it used to. How is that possible? For some time I considered this one of the worst things I've ever listened to, but perhaps the shock of what I found horrible about it has worn off with exposure. I can see why DGD fans love this so much.

It's so brazen with its riffage and big pop ... read more

Kevin Abstract - Blush

Better than I thought it would be. It's very scattershot, throwing a lot of ideas at the wall, but I felt like it really shaped up in the 2nd half. The whole "Blush" collective/concept is very vague. Part of me doesn't really see what it's trying to be, as if it's doing too much, but I don't think that impedes the album. This project obviously makes sense to Kevin, and I think that's totally cool. He's doing what he wants and that's awesome. I ... read more

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

This has probably been my most anticipated album of 2024, and I'd say it delivered. Nurture is a very special album to me, I gave it a 10, but it exists in a totally different emotional space than this. SMILE doesn't live up to what that album achieved, but it was probably never going to. But, this record is great in its own way. I was expecting an interesting tone given the singles, and these songs ended up exploring different parts of Porter on a personal level, and how he perceives ... read more

There are plenty of good to great songs, but this is way too all over the place for me to fully enjoy it. I honestly don't mind albums that take an eclectic, playlist-type approach (see NOACF by The 1975) but this is such a mixed bag quality-wise. I get its a soundtrack or whatever, but it didn't work as a full listen.

"@BlueNinty one armed scissor is defo the catchiest track, but a lot of the other songs aren't too hook focused from what i remember. but im also not a big fan of that album anyway."

On ReeseyPuffy's review of JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
"Wack take, but I can understand where your coming from. It's not a project everyone will like, as it is titled "Scaring the Hoes" after all. People online like it cuz they listen to bullshit music and get no bitches (oh hey that's me!) Scaring the Hoes is one of my favorite projects I've heard this year. The beats are so creative and go hard as hell, and I love Peggy and Danny's performances. It might be my fav from either artist, but Veteran by JPEG is a close second. You might find All My Heroes are Cornballs interesting. It's a jarring, experimental experience with some interesting melodic parts sprinkled in. Veteran is fire too, wild beats paired with blunt lyrics. Some of my favorite JPEG songs are on that album."

"@Bobby I find MPP to be more genuinely psychedelic, with good pop sensibility to boot. It's more produced sure, but it still has a weird edge. I hear a lot of people say Strawberry Jam has pop sensibility, but it was the opposite for me. To my ears, there wasn't a lick of catchiness that I could latch onto. Perhaps one day I'll get it..."

"@Macks I know I missed that one, but I kept putting it off since it seemed like a patient listen. Considering that I'm working on another album of the year video, I don't wanna force a listen and not give it the time of day. I'll listen to it one day, but not soon. That sounds dumb but that's my thinking."
