It’s a nice, gentle listen, but too short to get into it as much as I would’ve liked to.
I want to preface this review by saying I have a very personal connection with this album. I've known it for some time, and it's always been my favourite Glass Animals album. I have a sense of familiarity with every song, and have spent some of the best and worst moments of my life with this one.
The name 'ZABA' comes from a book with a similar name 'The zabajaba jungle', hence it's jungle themes, and album art style inspired by that of the book. This ... read more
This album is a combination of two of my favourite genres, and it delivers amazingly well on both. The vocals sound dreamy, the lyrics are well written, and the instrumentals are hypnotic.
My biggest issue is that some of the songs waste too much time, and drag a little
I found it to be too intense at times, personally, but overall had a good time with this one. My favourite on the album was Pill To Swallow, with most of the other songs being fairly forgettable.
I was surprised to see myself like this one, as hip hop and pop aren't usually genres I thoroughly enjoy, but this one was a really nice listen. Some of the production was a little overkill at times, but the beginning and end parts of the album are just fantastic.
I’m just completely re-writing my old review. I was crazy to give it a 75. This is one of the best albums of the year, and I wouldn’t be upset if it won aoty.
I appreciate what this album tried to do. A lot of the sounds are very unique, and sometimes eery or disturbing, but I found a lot of the instrumentals to be borderline ear grating. It had a lot of potential, and was a novelty, but something I wouldn’t listen to again
My old review of Currents sucked so I’m redoing it completely!
Currents was my introduction to Tame Impala. It’s not been a year yet, making me a relatively new fan. I wish I could say I was a fan before and around the release of the album, but I just can’t. Despite that, it means so much more to me than any other album does. The only album that comes close to meaning as much is The Slow Rush, and that’s largely because of Breathe Deeper. When I say Currents was life ... read more
Plastic Beach is a fully fleshed out LP with a consistent high quality. Filled with themes of the environment, the LP never loses sight of the story it wants to tell. The tracks are purposeful, dramatic, and emotional
Not Here Not Gone is a wonderfully intense, emotional, and slightly scary LP when it wants to be. The tracks feel gripping, and easy to fall for.
