I'm sorry I tried so hard to like this but I really just can't get into the vocals. The instrumental is great and I loved the jazzy interludes but I just couldn't get into it.
It's a really good album but of all the Converge I've heard it's my least favorite. The sludgy elements don't work as well here as they do in some of their later works and the heavy parts don't hit near as hard as they do in Jane Doe.
Highlights: Black Cloud, Heartless
Low Points: You Fail Me, In Her Shadow
This was a pretty cool album. The symphonic elements were executed very well but without them it would feel a bit generic, which does lead it to feeling like a bit of a one trick pony to me. Still overall very good and I'm excited to see them develop this sound further in the future.
Highlights: Heaven Shall Burn, Come What May
Low Points: Death By a Thousand Cuts, the three interludes lol
Really hope these guys get the recognition they deserve from this release. They've truly found their unique sound here.
I'm both disappointed and relieved that this album doesn't have a ton of reviews. It's a fantastic album that deserves attention but it's not the kind of metalcore aoty users typically like lol. The riffs go hard and the vocal harmonies are super unique.
Highlights: To the Fallen Hero, The Lonely Dead, Under this Flag
Low Points: Constitution of Treason
For some reason these two songs didn't click with me as hard as they should have when I first heard them but I decided to come back to them because of how good the new Boundaries album was and my GOD they are peak.
I've heard of Refused for a while now, but for whatever reason I didn't check them out. But then one of my friends discovered them on his own and reccommended this album to me. This is really good! The basslines go hard and the vocals are super cool. I definitely see why they are considered duch an influential and important band.
Highlights: New Noise, Refused are Fucking Dead, The Shape of Punk to Come
Low Points: Liberation Frequency, The Apollo Programme Was a Hoax
It's decent but it does nothing new. Better than Seeing Red or anything off their last album though.
If the vocals were just a little louder this would be my favorite of the 3 singles
Edit: vocals could be louder but it is my favorite of the singles
I'm sure a lot of people will call this generic but I disagree. Erra has their own pretty unique and recognizable sound even though they aren't reinventing the wheel. Some fans will likely leave this album disappointed because it's not as technical as self-titled or Augment but there's more to Erra than being technical, and this album is still no slouch in that department. Overall I think this is a pretty good release, there are quite a few bangers on here.
The ratings on this album are criminally low. Unearth tackled the sound on this album flawlessly and I think it has the best production in their discography. It also has some of my favorite breakdowns maybe ever.
Highlights: King of the Artic, Sidewinder
Low Points: Survivalist
I wish that Parkway continued with this sound instead of going the direction that they did. I don't hate their new style as much as most do but I think that they could have evolved this sound in some interesting ways.
Highlights: Dedicated, The Sound of Violence
Low Points: Writings on the Wall
