After a couple rather disappointing albums, Trivium came back with a bang starting with this record. Everything that made those older albums good returns here done in a new interesting way. While I'll still always prefer Ascendancy, Trivium has made one hell of a comback from where they were before.
The vocals weren't as big of a problem for me on this one. Their cleans are still not my favorite and some of the screams miss but overall this single is good.
Trivium's riffs never cease to be on point but the songwriting here just isn't always the strongest. In Waves was already much weaker than their classics but this one really fell off. There aren't really any bad tracks here just a lot of pretty mediocre tracks. There are a couple really good ones to return to though.
Highlights: Strife, No Way to Heal
Low Points: Inceneration: The Broken World, Through Blood and Dirt and Bone
I finally decided to give this a listen after hearing about how great it was for so long and tbh I'm not impressed. I really love the idea of this album and sometimes the riffs on it are fantastic but when this album doesn't work it flops so hard and becomes unbearably cringe. The vocals also bring the album down for me where the screams are pretty good maybe even above average but the cleans almost remind me of Ronnie Radke(still much better than him obviously) a bit which I did not like at ... read more
I hate when people simplify this band down to just being an August Burns Red clone. They do sound similar but they have differentiated themselves enough to be unique. I couldn't see ABR making a song like Sweetest Poison or Illuminate. To me Texas in July is like if ABR evolved in a different direction after Messengers.
Highlights: Sweetest Poison, Defenseless, Decamilli
Low Points: Broken Soul
Hot take but imo Better Lovers is on track to be better than both ETID and Dillinger
Edit: changed my wording a bit bc while i enjoy what theyve put out more than what the other bands have, they don't have the albums under their belt yet
Absolutely beats your ass but then when that slight melody comes in it's so badass. This is about to be one of the best albums of the decade.
This album perfectly emulates everything good about early 2000s metalcore while also being heavy as balls. Every time I relisten to this it grows on me more and more. The revivalcore era is the best thing to happen to metalcore in a hot minute.
Highlights: Torn From Your Silhouette, Watch My Promise Die, Paved in Sorrow
Low Points: Starved, Hell's Final Blessing
Low key if this had better vocals it would probably be well remembered as one of the best metalcore albums of the 2000s. Could also use a better album cover to represent it lol.
Highlights: Just Another Nightmare, Redemption
Low Points: Another Hero Lost
I'd rather be a 5'4 man whore who slit his wrists than be subjected to this song again
30 minutes of nonstop aggression. This is very likely to be in my top 10 albums at the end of the year. This album scratches a similar itch to me as Messengers by August Burns Red does. The transitions are also perfect.
Highlights: Blame's Burden, A Pale Light Lingers, Darkness Shared
Low Points: Inhale the Grief, Easily Erased
Honestly the album cover kept me crom listening to this for a while. I didn't even realize it was mathcore until a couple days ago actually despite seeing it quite a bit on here. Mathcore and breakcore is not a combination I've heard before and it works pretty well. I'll definitely keep track of this band moving forward as I think they show quite a bit of promise.
Highlights: Atrophy:Angel, gh0st.shell
Low Points: tripping > wires
WOOO! HOO! YEAH!! HERE WE GO! WOO!!
Highlights: No Apologies, Death is a Lottery, Eventually We All Win
Low Points: Without Any Words, What More Can I Say
Will Putney with Bodysnatcher is a match made in heaven. Also the Jasta feature was pretty cool too.
i like most things about this but the vocals just ruin it so hard for me. the first track is good though
