Even though it is worse than the original, I'm glad this exists because there are some really great new tracks. My main complaint is the length of the album, an hour and 45 minutes, which is way too long, but this is a director's cut, so it gets a pass.
Incredibly enjoyable project. Even with songs I don't like as much, I can certainly tell everyone involved is having fun. Because of the length, I wouldn't see myself revisiting the album as a whole.
Not as good as The Never Story, but certainly a pretty good album all things considered. The first quarter is the weakest part of the album, but everything else is good. I honestly think my least favorite part about this album is the beat selection. For the most part, The Never Story has way better beats.
For my first JID project, this was a great first impression. JID's lyrical ability and beat choices are top tier throughout this entire album.
The second half is so much better than the first. Overall, wildly overrated, but still pretty good.
Edit: 76 -> 80
This is extremely good, especially for 2002, but that final song is not good. To be fair, even the original Grindin' is pretty overrated. Not even top 5 on the album.
Great record, on the same level as Daytona. Despite what the scores say, I think this is the solo Push album that I enjoyed the most.
My least favorite Push project so far, but this is still a great album. Nosetalgia is a classic, my favorite Kendrick feature, OAT. Also, why is Let Me Love You one of the lowest rated? It's an amazing song.
Although not as good as It Was Written, this is his most consistent project since Illmatic.
Good, but I don't see myself revisiting this. It's too long and a lot of it sounds the same.
Very different from anything else I have listened to, but overall, it is extremely enjoyable; no tracks stand out as bad. Some tracks definitely do stand out, as some of the GREATEST SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD.
Very consistent and solid project, and it met my relatively high expectations. (This is culturally inappropriate)
Edit: was already AOTY but it grew on me to a 9
What an incredible translation of emotions into music, truly a one-of-a-kind song/EP that will always put me in the mood of what Earl was feeling at the time. And that's a testament to how talented a producer he is, because that is the main thing creating the vibe and atmosphere. The rapping is also super expressive and quotable, just enough to stick in my brain but never overdone.
Earl and Al have great chemistry. I wouldn't mind if they collabed on another album. The features were somewhat underwhelming, the production is amazing, and overall, it's a great album.
I was not expecting to enjoy this that much after the disappointment that was FEET OF CLAY, but this is actually great.
Still not great, but a decent bit better! Two amazing songs improve this album a lot.
This just feels like it's trying to be Some Rap Songs so hard, and it doesn't achieve that really at all.
