VERY overhated, this is a great, yet pretty inconsistent, project that just barely doesn't reach the highs of Control System due to a few lackluster tracks. But those last three tracks (excluding W.R.O.H.) are some of my favorite 2010s rap songs ever.
Damn, probably the first time I agree with Buzz lol. But anyway, this is a really good project from Soul that features commentary on many important topics as well as some great flows and beats.
Super good, the production just really isn't my favorite style. Still, I can tell that this is Black Thought and Danger Mouse at the highest level for their respective skills.
The production feels a lot more haunting and paranoid than their previous album, like a dark, horrorcore-ified version of Mobb Deep, and I dig it, but Havoc and Prodigy's rapping is the highlight.
I have completed the trilogy of mid-90s classic hip-hop: Illmatic, Enter The Wu-Tang, and now this. And all three are incredible. Great production from Havoc, but Q-Tip's production stole the show every song he was on. The bars are also great all around.
How TF did all of Chance's albums end up with the same score? Well, anyway, this definitely has Chance's best songs, but not a lot of consistency; that run in the middle is pretty unfortunate. Maybe his best? I don't know I'll have to revisit.
The best songs are, for sure, the more gospel and angelic songs, just like on Acid Rap. I guess I can see why The Big Day is so hated if it went more towards the rap direction. Anyway, great album and really just a fun + positive vibe! Probably better than Acid Rap, but it's a toss up.
I'll be honest, Chance's rapping and production style aren't my favorite, but this was still worth a listen for the 4-5 incredible and beautiful singing songs; those are definitely my favorites.
Definitely an AOTY contender for me. It's just so consistent as opposed to my other favorite, Let God Sort Em Out, which has way higher highs but drags in some places. Overall, the production is amazing, huge Kanye inspiration for sure, and I also get some Lupe Fiasco vibes. The rapping also has some Kanye inspiration, and the lyrics are just really meaningful and emotional.
Not quite as enjoyable as GFK's previous work, but they have different vibes. Supreme Clientele is way more upbeat and fun, with a lot more humor as well, displayed in the skits. While the bars are perfectly serviceable for a Wu-Tang album of this time, the production is almost entirely ahead of its time.
Very solid introduction to Ghostface. Good rapping as ever, and some unique production. From the OB4CL duology, and this, I could see Raekwon and Ghostface being one of my favorite duos ever.
Probably one of the greatest rap sequels, even though it doesn't quite reach the heights of its predecessor.
This is one of the longest albums I've listened to in quite a while, yet I believe it deserves every second. The production, rapping, and storytelling are always top-notch, as you could expect from a Wu-Tang album, but I believe this is the best one I've heard since 36 Chambers.
Imma be honest, the production carries HARD. ODB's rapping just isn't that good to carry an entire album because his main appeal is humor, even if he's got some pretty good verses here and there. And the funny tracks aren't even that funny imo. All that to say, pretty solid album.
