Voices like melted light, soft and floaaaaaaaating. Guitars shimmer and sparkle like stars in fog. It feels like crying and dreaming at the same time. Words don’t matter — just the feeling. Heaven or Vegas? Feels like both. I rate it 95 but what about youuuuuuuuu-who-who-who-who
I loved the vocals, the lyrics and the way of the crescendo. This was a lovely sweet spot. I really liked Obstacle 1 and 2 and The New.
Some interesting sounds and riffs. On the whole I liked this, but with some caveats. At 1 hour and 10 minutes, this was too much for what it was. 37 - 45 minutes would have been perfect, certainly not more than 50 minutes, by the end I was a little bored and waiting for it to end. This was also sold to me as some kind of rock but I dunno I felt like I was waiting for it go most of the album, and I don't remember that it ever really did. It was alsona lot nicer than what I was hoping for. ... read more
I'm certainly no expert and I almost certainly don't know what I'm talking about, but this album to me is a golden crown and each track is a gemstone. There's not a single thing about this album that I dislike, it sounds like a band at their very peak who know exactly what they are good at and have totally mastered their craft. I honestly don't have any criticism. And I found out only recently that it's that geezer from Blur (I've been living under a rock, ... read more
The first listen of this was magical. I smiled and said wow at least 3 or 4 times. I love the synth and electro sound in this so much, it was lighting up my brain all the way through. A cracker of an album in my favourite genre.
I really wanted to love Melodrama, such that I have listened to it twice. The concept is interesting, the cover looks fantastic, and I admire the whole synthy/electro genre. However, the vocals don’t land for me, and the party-night narrative thing that is the centre of it just doesn’t resonate with me. By 2017 I had probably just missed that phase, and revisiting in my thirties, I don't know, it just doesn't do it for me. I'm also not such a fan of the vulnerability ... read more
A score of 86? Behave! You lot could be reviewing the Mona Lisa and you've give her 86 because she’s not smiling.
This album isn’t just musically fantastic - it’s the blueprint of British indie. The spirit of Manchester. The reason half the UK is into music at all.
I Wanna be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone, Shoot You Down, This is the One, they are brilliant.
I concede that I Wanna Be Adored sounds like "I want to be a ... read more
I'll start by saying this isn't my usual genre — I listened to this album out of curiosity more than anything. Then I turned it on and wow. You can't deny quality when you hear it. This was a masterclass: chaos unleashed — pure, unadulterated chaos — yet somehow so deliberate and controlled. It felt like watching the finest coached football team in the world absolutely pummel the opposition. Chaos, yes — but every moment was intentional. Pure brilliance.
Wow! Headlock is probably one of the tracks of the noughties, it's infectious. Next time I am at a karaoke bar I'm really tempted to give it a go. The other tracks on the album are all good.
The album cover works in this album's favour. It doesn't advertise itself but then you start listening to it and it's a gastro dining experience.
I listened to Frou Frou too. If you like this, give that a go, very comparable in quality in my view.

This album peaked for me at Into the Light closely followed by Monitor. That sound in Into the Light, no exaggeration, which they play over and over again, is the most wonderful thing I've ever heard.
What stopped this from being 90+ for me is Voodoo Dolly, which I'm sorry to say was long and boring. I didn't like Halloween that much either. Still, this is a terrific album.
I've listened to this as well as the albums Cancion Animal and Dynamo from Soda Stereo, as well as Gustavo Cerati's solo album Bocanada. In my opinion this is the most groove-able and entertaining of those, though I thought Bocanada was the more accomplished piece. That said, this one is probably the one I'll keep coming back to over and over again whenever I want something fun to listen to that makes you feel good.
Ten was good, but this didn't grab me the way other albums did. It's just not quite for me, though I know I should like it, and it has all the ingredients for me to like it, and it was well-produced, it just didn't resonate completely with me. I'll keep it around and will listen to it again, but it's unlikely to be the centre of my rotation
Her voice is lovely, I felt it was intimate and melancholic yet happy at the same time - but what really got me was how effortlessly it made my foot tap!
I really liked this album
