Common - The Auditorium Vol. 1
90

Favorite: Dreamin', This Man, We're on our way, Fortunate, Wise up, Lonesome, Everything's So Grand, Now and Then
This album evokes a nostalgic vibe, probably because of a lot of oldschool hiphop references. Common boasts peak lyricism and rapping performances, but it's not even the best part of the album. Pete Rock's jazzy beats and some insane sample work are truly killing the game. Their chemistry is perfect, and Common just fits jazzy beats so well. However, it ... read more

Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH
85

Favorite: hyperyouth, bust down, wassup, the party song, go hard, Disco tomorrow.
One of the best hip-hop albums of the year. The beat is well-produced, and the rapping is great, banger after banger on this album. There are a lot of references I found interesting, for example, the Sydney Sweeney line, Kanye and MJ references etc. Absolutely love Hyperyouth, wassup, and disco tomorrow, great, rap aoty contender

Common - Resurrection
85

Favorite: Resurrection, I used to love her, watermelon, Nuthin' to do, orange pineapple juice
great jazz production, a bit worse than LWFC.

Common - Like Water for Chocolate
90

Favorite: Heat, dooinit, the light, the 6th sense, nag champa, a song for assata
The mixing on this album has an old movie vib,e and it is very interesting. The soul sample and jazzy production on almost every songs are insanely good, and every song is executed perfectly in terms of rapping performances and song structure. Amazing album.

OutKast - Aquemini
95

Favorite: Return of the "G", ROsa Parks, Skew it on the Bar-b, aquemini, Da art of storytelling pt1&2,Wicked, Liberation
The best album in arguably the best three-album run in music history. The flow of the entire album is so fluent and every track is consistently good in terms of production, lyricism, and rapping/singing performances. If "Mamacita" is not on this album, it is a 10.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
70

Favorite: Mr. Carter, A Mili, Dr. Carter, Let the beat build, Don'tgetit.
I enjoyed a very limited number of songs on this album, and there are too many fillers. Most hooks sound decent but forced, and Lil Wayne's voice on these hooks is just bad. This album sounds more like a great pop album with lots of radio hits and club songs rather than a classic hip-hop album. This is not for me.

Mobb Deep - Hell on Earth
90

Favorite: Animal Instict, Drop a gem on Em, Extortion, Can't get enough of it, Nighttime Vultures, Hell on Earth, Give iti up fast.
One of the darkest and grimmiest hip-hop albums I've ever heard, the beat on this album sounds literally like hell on Earth.

UGK - Ridin' Dirty
85

Favorite: One Day, Murder, Pinky Ring, Hi-Life, Ridin'Dirty
All 11 actual songs have memorable hooks and great production, but the first half of the album has a better rapping performance from both of them than the second half does imo. Overall, a southern hip-hop classic, great.

Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 3
85

Favorite: Goodnight, Rubber bands &Weight, Broken Bottles, Echo Long, 97 Hov, Joe Pesci 38, Fifty One, All70
Outstanding rapping performance plus great production from the Alchemist, but the beat doesn't have the unique feeling the Alchemist has for other albums. Every track is a banger, and it is becoming a modern classic, a great album.

A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
75

Favorite: Goldie, LVL, F**kin' Problems, 1Train, Fashion Killa
A few skips, a few bangers.

Big K.R.I.T. - 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time
95

Favorite: Big KRIT, Subenstein, Get up 2 come down, Get Away, Justin Scott, Keep the devil off, Miss Georgia fornia, Drinking Sessions, Bury me in gold.
Fantastic production, Incredible rapping performances, and interesting lyricism all in one album. This two-disc album is both diverse in genre and consistent in quality. The inclusion of jazz rap, trap, and just the right amount of pop rap make listening to this entire album really captivating. Overall, awesome album.

DMX - It's Dark and Hell Is Hot
85

Favorite: Intro, Ruff Ryder's Anthem, Let me fly, Damien, ATF, I can Feel it, The Convo, N* Done Started Something.
DMX has such a unique style that whenever you hear his song, you recognize his voice. However, honestly, his singing voice is terrible. A dark album and a pleasant listen for me, but his style is not for me. Still a great album, and I can understand people who consider this a perfect album.

OutKast - Stankonia
90

Favorite: So Fresh, so clean, Ms. Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, BOB, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet, Gangsta Shit,
They are exceptionally skilled at crafting catchy melodies into complete, polished songs with a great concept. Andre has an incredible rapping ability with a great singing voice. For me, Stankonia is slightly better than Atliens, since it is more melodic-driven and poppier while maintaining the unique rapping and production style. Amazing.

Joey Bada$$ - 1999
85

Favorite: Waves, Survival Tactics, Killuminati, Hardknock, World Domination, Don't Front, Righteous Minds.
Incredible production and rapping performances from the young Joey Badass, unbelievable that he was 17 when he made this project. The 90s Boom Bap/ Jazzy production is really captivating, and I enjoy it a lot.

Scarface - The Diary
90

Favorite: Intro, No Tears, Jesse James, one, Goin' Down, Hand of the dead body, Mind Playin Tricks 94, The diary
The production is fire on this album, I never knew Mike Dean started producing greatness this early. I could hear a lot of West Coast G-funk production on this album, similar to Doggystyle, and I always love it. I could also see some influence taken by Kendrick on some of his albums, too. Fantastic album.

John Coltrane - Blue Train
95

Favorite: Blue Train, Locomotion
Catchy, well-mixed, chill, everything you need for a jazz album is on this classic John Coltrane album Blue Train. My personal favorite from him over Giant Steps, Love supreme, My Favorite Things etc.

A Tribe Called Quest - We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service
95

Favorite: The space program, We the People, Solid wall of sound, Melatonin, Mobius, Enough, Conrad Tokyo, Ego
This album is consistent greatness, absolutely zero bad songs. Easily better than Midnight Marauder and arguably better than Low end theory in my book. The feature list is stacked, and the Q-tip's production is absolutely insane on this album. Every factor is nearly perfect on this album, amazing.

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
95

Favorite: My Sweet Lord, Wah Wah, Isn't it a pity, what is life, if not for you, all things must pass
Best Beatles solo album.

2Pac - Me Against The World
85

Favorite: If I die 2nite, Me Against the world, Temptations, Dear Mama,
Vibey rap music. I can see why 2pac is the most iconic hiphop figure from this album, it is really enjoyable and the melody is for everyone. The production is decent on this album while the rapping is stellar. Great album

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
100

Favorite: Love's in need of love today, Sir duke, I wish, Summer soft, ordinary pain, isn't she lovely, joy inside my tears, as, another star, Saturn, ebony eyes.
Insane tracklist, multiple contenders for best songs of all time. THE BEST two discs album in my opinion. First time listened to this a few years ago, and it never gets old till now. Stevie got the best voice ever, and with him producing this entire album, it is even more impressive. 21 song tracklist and not a single song I ... read more
