Great voice paired with detailed production makes this immediately enjoyable. The first half is well paced, and songs are distinct but cohesive in their sound – the middle looses me a little bit, but then somewhat picks me back up again on the last few tracks.
The singles are nice and well paced / paired with more atmospheric tracks. Drags a little bit here and there, but nice and atmospheric overall with some catchy moments sprinkled in.
Sure I can hear that this is a solid, well put together album. But I don't think I'll be coming back to it
Looovely instrumentation and production, but the vocals (and/or vocal treatment) take me completely out of it
Simple and engaging lyrics, entertaining to listen to though a bit same-y. +1 for northern Englishness
There are things I really like about this and things that I don't so much. I love that the lounge-y sound has carried over from TBHC, but this time the concept isn't there to glue it all together. Half the reason TBHC is great to me is the atmosphere that surrounds it. Its ok that the lyrics go non-sensical at times because it makes me feel like I'm listening to somebody's drunk uncle crooning in an outer space lounge, mic in one hand and a whisky in the other. This time when the lyrics go ... read more
Wish I could hear what everyone else is hearing, but to me the majority of this was just annoying.
Threads a fine line (get it??? sorry) between being good-catchy and annoying-catchy. Has its moments but a lot of it is relatively boring and unremarkable, and struggles to stay engaging. Nothing overly terrible but nothing overly great either, it's all very safe and inoffensive sounding. He's giving his fans exactly what they want I suppose, a mix of slow romantic songs to swoon over and generic danceable pop songs.
- First half in particular is full of instantly memorable tracks, impressively doesn't drag at all
- Loses me a little in the second half, feels like a drag at times but in turn has some really memorable moments
- Love how immersive the story telling is on tracks like Worldwide Steppers, We Cry Together, Auntie Diaries, Mother I Sober
Good amount of memorable moments and surprisingly engaging throughout for such a long album
– Lovely lovely vocals
– Memorable and unique moments throughout
– Progresses well and stays pretty engaging
And sidenote: cool music videos and artwork/album branding making me instantly more likely to want to buy it on vinyl
Love the style of this but it's not well rounded enough as an album unfortunately, otherwise I would have rated it higher
I love a lot of things about this, the first few tracks are super strong, but it's just very long
