Close to being a really good comeback single, but I think they kinda fudged it with the chorus of children.
Whereas Changes sounded like the EOTS we all know and love, Music On The Radio sounds like PNAU’s reheated leftovers. It’s not a bad song, in particular I like how endearingly cheesy the lyrics are, but it’s very homogeneous with other recent dancepop songs and it even directly reuses elements from Cold Heart. Between this and AEIOU being on the album I’m feeling a little more skeptical about Ask That God.
Russian act Tesla Boy know how to make slick, bouncy synthpop anthems and they know how to make then well. Their 2009 self titled debut EP isn’t the most innovative thing I’ve heard but it’s a lot of fun and packed with grooves. Look out for Spirit Of The Night in particular, a buzzing, infectiously eighties track perfect for a late night drive (I’m not just saying that because it was on Forza Horizon I promise).
Solid EP. I like the fusion of 2000s electronic rock and modern hyperpop it goes for. If I have one complaint it’s that I think the vocals are lost in the mix sometimes, but it’s still a pretty fun time.
It’s not necessarily a problem that Miley Cyrus takes some creative liberties with her rendition of Psycho Killer, I just wish she didn’t exclusively take absolutely terrible ones.
‘A Very Bad Fun Idea’ olly are you talking about your Eurovision appearance mate
10 unbearable minutes of dull, aimless edgelordery. And I mean really unbearable, there is not one entertaining or listenable aspect to this song. I don’t really know why I listened to a Lil… uhh I don’t think I can say his name really… Lil Racial Slur song in the first place, but I suppose this can serve as a reminder for me not to try any more of his.
Ice Spice continues her unwavering commitment to the same goddamn flow she always does.
THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT is a prime example of how not to write pop music with a focus on lore. The majority of the album’s lyrics and themes feel basic, done-before and superflous, (with a bad habit of hyperspecificity) and yet they make up the meat of the album because TTPD is produced in such a painstakingly dull manner. Usually a pop album that’s lyrically weak can at least rely on sounding fun, catchy or at the very least memorable, but this has not occurred to Jack ... read more
Was not expecting this level of passion and energy from Macklemore but holy shit guess I was wrong…
Anyway, free Palestine!
What fucking headspace is Kendrick in right now like holy shit he wants Drake wiped off the face of the earth
00s indie rock band Simian morph into this groovy tech house outfit, and it results in a pretty fun debut album. Not an album with much depth to it and definitely not at the level of other indie dance released during this time, but keeps the energy going and delivers some pretty good hooks while it’s there. Look out for “I Got This Down” as well as “I Believe”, they’re the highlights here.
Not aware of this guy, but one listen to this tells me I must be missing out. Groovy as fuck and a good candidate for song of the summer.
Famous Girl is probably the worst thing Aitch has done since his appearance on Anne-Marie’s PSYCHO. The verses- basically just Aitch listing off famous women he’d quite like to shag- are unnerving and creepy- and the chorus is so hilariously flat- I can’t believe somebody greenlit this for release. It’s abominable, one of the worst singles I’ve heard this year.
There is precisely one song worth listening to on The Beginning, and it’s ‘The Time (Dirty Bit)’ a song so directly and unapologetically terrible that it could only ever be enjoyed ironically. A real “if you don’t laugh you’ll cry” situation. The rest is just a constant stream of the dull and the trite.
Maybe it’s recency bias speaking but I… I might like this more than Cross…
After an iconic first album, an underrated second and a disappointing third, French electronic titans Justice return with their fourth, Hyperdrama- also their first album in 8 years. And hoo boy, what a return. It’s a perfect meld of †-era distorted, gritty electronics and the smoother disco stuff they tried out on Woman. But as opposed to Woman, it actually works. It feels like a ... read more
