THIS WAS INCREDIBLE WHAT THE FUCK
I'm not even sure if I can convey how hard "Power Andre 99" goes, you just have to let it swallow you whole and spit you out as a changed man, baptized by the sonically rich noise pop and wonderfully hard production. Almost skipped over listening, but the top review convinced me last moment to try it out, I'm SO glad I wound up giving it a chance. They weren't kidding, either: this has to be one of the freshest, most innovative listens I've gotten in ... read more
I had a whole review written out, but I think it would be more concise and straightforward if I just said this:
I like that "Bish Bosch" exists, it has its moments here and there, just ultimately not my thing.
The best songs on here experiment with production and get a little wacky with it, even in pockets that "Get to Heaven" didn't really tend to experiment in. It's just unfortunate that the first 3 songs are the most interesting, with another great crop of songs further on in the tracklist ("Don't Ask Me To Beg" to "Your Money, My Summer") and everything else ranging from pretty standard to meh. I didn't care for "Canary" all too much, and I can definitely ... read more

Edit: NAHH THAT JESUS SKIT WAS WILDDDD WTF
Absolute insanity in LP form. I wanted to avoid the singles after seeing how highly rated they were, and promised to give it a go on release night without any context whatsoever. And now I can truly say, "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To" is the tightest listen of the year for me, in terms of pure consistency and enjoyability (haven't listened to Kamasi's album yet, I'm sure that'll be up there but still). I love how deafeningly heavy this is, while also proving to be sonically ... read more
people who hate rap think this is what rap is
and they're right
first song made me spit my water out, if that isn't a good sign then i'm not sure what is
well, well, well *swivels in generic brand office chair, stroking a villainous persian cat* looks like you've BLUNDERED ONCE AGAIN KENDRICK LAME-AR, drake DOES have a classic record RIGHT HERE, it's in aoty's illustrious TOP 100 ALBUMS OF ALL TIME which means it's an ENDURING CLASSIC with ZERO SKIPS WHATSOEVER so much better than your SLAVE FREEING ANTHEM ALBUM and that one with the VAN THAT GOT SMASHED you fucken loser, go back to the studio with metro and MATING PRESS HIS FUCKING DRUMKIT UNTIL ... read more
I will say, this album has some interesting ideas here and there, but ultimately they are in service to a pretty weak series of jokes and paper thin song ideas. To be fair, that's on me from expecting something substantive out of an artist called "Lego Indiana Jones" I guess. "Cloudy w/ a Chance of Meatballs" is a banger tho
Edit: aged poorly in like 20 min, new world record lol
Honestly, a really solid response to Kendrick that addresses plenty of his points with ferosity and hunger. Obviously I'm more Kendrick slanted here, but I'm definitely not upset that Drake's firing back one bit, I mean it just means there's more quality music for us to listen to, what's not to love?
Also the "our sons should go to the park, two light skin kids the shit would be cute" part got me rolling
Went into this with ZERO, nada, zilch, fuckin dick bupkis in terms of context or expectations for this album, I just wasn't in the right mood for Dua Lipa tonight and I wanted to embark on something different. Something completely outside of my frame of reference that could provide me with a sound or idea I was unfamiliar or inexperienced with.
That's what I got with "Funeral For Justice", and SO MUCH MORE
This thing is so wonderfully expressive and creative, from the hard-hitting ... read more
Take the essence of what made "Cross" great and jam it into a 17-minute project that's extremely consistent and virtually devoid of any filler whatsoever.
Alright, welcome one and all, to another edition of "I review an album that's SEVERELY outside my frame of reference", and today we have a digicore-infused cloud rap release from aoty user @stankysauce titled "ANOMALOCARIS". The only reason I even know about this album is, funnily enough, from that "Chlorophyll" album I recently reviewed, apparently this was considered something I would like based on that so that's why I'm here I guess.
Let me give my thoughs on ... read more
made me soil my britches
edit: lowered my score because meet the grahams is better by a landslide lol
I'll say this much: there's potential for "Life Is But a Dream..." to grow on me, maybe another listen could help me make heads or tails about some of the more confounding elements at play here. I appreciate how divisive it's become across the website - there are some piss bland albums with a near 50 user score, but this one earns it by just how split people are on its oddities. Unfortunately, I'm on the negative side on the picket, as the "progressive metal" moniker usually ... read more
NO Thom, the Computer was NOT OK!
*thunderous applause erupts from the studio audience that spontaneously spawned around me, beautiful bouquets of flowers are tossed at my feet, one hits me in the face and a thorn lands in my eye, run away so I can avoid the ambulance the spectators "generously" called for me despite the fact that I have no insurance, get a cool eyepatch, haha pirate*
