Edit: Apparently this is my 300th review lol, I almost lost count!
It's weird to have nostalgia for something that was released years and years before you were even conceived as an idea, but my Dad used to play this frequently enough for me to get attached at a somewhat young age. Coming back, it's crazy to see how many tracks I could nearly recite from memory, which is kinda insane considering how fucked up some of the topics get on here. There's a great balance between cynical critique and ... read more
Forgot how good "Runnin' Thru The 7th With My Woadies" was, great little ep overall.
Starts kinda passable with the first few songs, but "Supermarket" ultimately destroys itself by reminding us how unoriginal Logic can be when he pressures himself to live up to every influence he has, no matter how small.

The vocal samples get annoying, and the charm wears thin quickly. Em's insecurities about his past glory culminates in this Avengers brand multiverse ass masturbatory music video that kinda rubs me the wrong way. Even with all that, it's not the worst thing he's made, just feels a tad soulless and features some cringe doomer zoomer humor. Look mom, I can rhyme too!
A rock opus for the ages, nothing short of breathtaking.
I forgot to review this album when it came out lol, just know that it's really good and probably his most tonally cohesive project to date. Would recommend!

Don't get me wrong, I love Billy Woods and the work he's been putting in this past decade, but there's something about the first 5 tracks on "Hiding Places" in particular that feel completely fucking untouchable in the context of both his own discography, and the abstract hip hop scene at large. Seriously, in the span of about 14 minutes, we're treated with some of the best blends of smooth conscious rap and hard-hitting rock you'll ever hear, combining roaring guitar samples and ... read more
Sorry, this comes off as pretty generic to my plebian ears. It's not void of enjoyable qualities, but it's painfully disappointing how surface-level everything feels. Some interesting moments in a vacuum carry it higher than plain ol' mediocrity, but it isn't ever enough to get me emotionally hooked. Maybe (most likely) I'M being the puppy kicker here, but whatever, I can't love everything I guess.
Edit: (96->100) Fuck it, Bilateral's a perfect album for me.
God, the difference between the actual sound of this thing and... what ever the fuck is being lovingly portrayed on that cover, well there couldn't be more of a night-and-day difference. Instead of some grimey sludge through and through, you've got some delightfully produced artsy prog pieces that dip into more of a power/symphonic metal pocket, with the occasional hardcore vocal inflection or breakdown, that ... read more

Alright you CHUCKLEFUCKERS, today I'm answering for my sins in the fiery pits of hell, we're joined by my main man and fire emcee DJ Satan himself, who's currently lashing me until the theoretical end of time itself because of one simple opinion of mine on an album for the longest time now: I did not dig "Untrue" by Burial one bit on first listen, no siree. Now to tell you the truth, I had no idea how influential this *winces in pain from particularly pungent whip ... read more
Super underrated!
There isn't a shortage of standout moments on here, namely in the middle when Black Thought shows his chops off on the illustrious "Diamond Cutters". Make no mistake, Roc Marciano holds his own during the 11-song stretch exceedingly well, with his control over each well-crafted instrumental on display turning out impressively pronounced, elevating this thing a lot for me. Tasteful sample usage, excellent production and impactful lyrics, a great package for sure!
