After reading @gaycarticatgirl 's beautiful masterpiece of a review for the 1000th time, I remembered that I never gave an actual review for this album, despite how much I had to say about it on release. This was pre-AOTY for me, I listened on release night and was pretty split on it like most people seemed to be. On one side, I could definitely get behind the wacky mantra that fuels "Pink Tape", which basically consists of throwing shit at a wall and hoping some of it sticks. ... read more
Edit: it's growing on me, in particular "Tore Up" got so much better (than it already was) on relisten. Maybe I'll relisten to the whole thing again, we'll see.
Took me until the end of the second disc to get used to Don's voice, turns out they were the best songs on the album lmaooo
Yeah this thing's pretty frontloaded unfortunately, it goes from having some decent personality to just a snoozefest post "4x4". And I wasn't even crazy about ... read more

Pretty fire, not crazy about every song here but I was more emotionally invested than I expected. Solid stuff from the duo
Whew, that uhhh... that "Under the Radar" tab wasn't kidding huh?
...This was pretty devastating to say the absolute least. I'm not really sure how to even digest what I heard, but all I can say for the moment is how wonderful the pieces fit into place here. I'm a sucker for some good space rock stuff every now and then, so mix that with some folk-centric ideas and field recordings and you've got a drone of a good time. Even some bombastic horns find themselves deep in the mix, you ... read more
Duuuuude, this is like, post-emo music, man!
What an absolute shock to the system, seriously I'm glad that I catalog all the random shit I find during my aoty deep diving sessions in the hopes that I someday get bored and decide to throw something on JUST BECAUSE I CAN! And I'm SO glad I happened to pick this thing. As it turns out, the brave little abacus that could made some fucken ZONKED OUT math rocky anthems that tickle my fancy to completion ( Ν‘° ΝΚ Ν‘°)

Truth be told, this isn't the most aggressively defined punk music you'll ever hear, but something about "London Calling" is innately enjoyable up front. It's a really breezy trek through some new wave punk that hooks me at times with its unique instrumental moments and fun atmosphere. It's a tad front loaded, but still ends off pretty strong undoubtedly. I'll give this another go in due time.
I have now come to the realization that "BINGE" by Machine Gun Kelly is my favorite love-to-hate project ever. It's the perfect shit storm, the culmination of an artist reaching a bizarre point in their career where all the chips are down and their style is being ridiculed by not only the general public, but the bear he poked through his naivete, and as such, he makes one last stand to regain what shred of dignity said bear left intact. And as this 24 minute EP shows, there really ... read more
An absolute mind-melter of an album. This shit's just elite psych pop boiled down to a science, while also feeling infectiously free-flowing and organic. I mean, c'mon man, HOW ARE YOU NOT LISTENING TO THIS SHIT RIGHT NOW? Masta-peece
Edit: brad fucking killed it lmao
I never listened to their first album in full, tbh I kinda enjoyed what I heard but really just saw Joey and Brae's style as another form of novelty, that adapted some underground hip hop influences and dumbed them down for a more stereotypical gen z instagram/tiktok audience. They seemed to imitate the stylings of Jpegmafia, Beastie Boys and Brockhampton, often infused with more nerdcore-adjacent musical ideas that, while filling a bit of a niche, still ... read more

Such a fun album to come back to, absolutely jam packed with some of trap music's finest offerings. "Harambe" grew on me a ton, that song fucking BANGS like nothing else omg
"WDYM" IS THE BEST SKI SONG HANDS DOWN!!!
Yeah... I wound up enjoying this better than brat, which I DEFINITELY didn't see coming, considering how inconsistent Ski has been with those pesky full projects he's been releasing for YEARS now. He could make amazing single after single, and win everyone's hearts, but never seemed to tie them together in a long-play format very well. That is, until "11th Dimension".
This album, for the first time it seems, has an actually ... read more
It's hard to miss the vibe being portrayed here, you can tell from the starting track that "brat" goes for this extremely direct and kinetic style that's typically right up my alley, but unfortunately most of this record kinda blended together into a samey electronic mush that didn't leave the best first impression on me. There were some solid moments, a great closer, and overall there really isn't a "bad" song on here, mainly just forgettable ones that act as somewhat ... read more
Edit 2 (68->88): Got better :>
Edit: Got worse :(
There were moments on here that dragged a bit and felt a tad indulgent, but overall, "God Plays His Piano Drone" was a delightfully solid zoomer gaze-adjacent debut that grabbed my attention and immersed me into its plentiful amount of nuances and ideas. Solid transitions between each songs, reverbed-out vocals that created the stereotypical "holy wowzers i'm floooaattingg" atmosphere in a way that's ... read more
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's okay. You can feel the age on this one quite a bit, but it's got an unmistakable charm to it. A bit too hippity dippity hip hop in the lyrical content for me to stomach all the way through, but the instrumentation isn't too bad, and it grooves pretty hard at times. It isn't super replayable, outside of the hits and a couple outliers, since they quickly turn to retreading ideas and it begins to lose me. Still, enjoyed it more than I thought, probably won't come back ... read more
