This album makes you really dig deep and ask questions. Questions like Why is there blood leaking out of my ear? Is that a chunk of brain on the floor? and Is this what the sweet release of death feels like? Unfortunately the album has no time for these silly ponderings, and marches onward regardless. The album's apathy to the listener's personal suffering and the human condition boggles the mind, and is reminiscent of that of an uncaring dictator or leader, ruling over its subjects in an ... read more
This kinda feels like the logical continuation of "Stressed Out" in many ways, giving off that similar pop rap appeal with enough of an identity to keep me tuned in. With the diverse sonic range of these singles being released, "twenty one pilots" could very well be in rare form on their upcoming project, and I'm eagerly awaiting what they have in store.
Listening to "Reckless" for the first time felt like biting into a piece of Halloween Candy with razor blades hidden beneath the chocolate, and damn was it awesome!
I recently went back and revisited some of the more obscure Juice WRLD projects that I haven't heard in years, alongside some leaks that I used to listen to often. And I get it, some may write "KILL's WORLD" off as an obscure non-factor in Juice's career, but honestly I kinda dig the weird, noisy switch in style for him. At the very least it sticks out amongst the rest of his catalog, but I think it goes beyond that, and provides a fairly unique triplet of cuts that feature some ... read more
The energy on this thing is absolutely unmatched, there isn't a a single moment on "Mista Thug Isolation" where Ugly Mane lets up in intensity and expression. An explosive shot to the heart that consistently delivers on its warped horrorcore prospects.
I held off from listening to the singles that came out earlier this year, since I figured that "Maruja" would release another short project soon, and I wanted to make sure I heard their follow-up to "Knocknarea" completely blind and spoiler free. And now we have "Connla's Well", which in a lot of ways, tops the highs of their previous work WITH FLYING COLORS. This thing might only be 5 tracks long, but I swear to GOD this beats everything that's released this year ... read more
Edit (70 -> 88 -> 95): Jesus Christ, I feel like this thing's been doing nothing but growing on me over the past two weeks I've been re-listening to it. And to tell you the truth, I didn't expect my subsequent re-listens to keep getting better and better, and yet here we are. I'm not going to go too in-depth, since people have done a better job at quantifying what makes this album so weird and brilliant all the same, but I will say that the lyrical style began to make more sense every ... read more
To be completely transparent, I haven't been a huge fan of Bladee's music up to this point, granted I've never listened to a full album of his before this one. I was curious what the hype was about, especially since I didn't even know this released today until right now, so I figured why not check it out. And overall, I had a pretty solid time here. For a 30 track album, it kinda flew by, which I would credit to the short track lengths and the barrage of weird rage ideas the listener is ... read more
Remember when people used to argue that music was dangerous?
Well I think they were right
"Pink Flag" feels like a LOT of scatter-shot ideas rapid fire into your skull - some work, some don't, but all go by with a roaring velocity. Many songs are less than two minutes, less than ONE minute in some cases. The cuts that run longer feel the most complete, but kinda run against the rapid-fire style the surrounding album goes for. I prefer these more developed cuts for sure, but the shorter bursts of kinetic punk had their respective highs and lows. The riffs are pretty great, ... read more
I really enjoyed the themes of evolution and societal advancement cheeckily explored here through an absurdist dance punk lens, it really tied together what it had to say effortlessly. It's hard to find genuinely funny music with good commentary that ALSO has its sonic merits, but "Viagra Boys" nailed the tone perfectly on here throughout. Not every song got me hooked in, but the ones that did were damn effective in doing so.
Also "Return to Monke" is a fuckin bop and a ... read more
As much as I loved Queen when I was younger (or rather my family liked Queen which meant I also did by proxy), I never listened to many of their albums. They were the epitome of a singles first, ask questions later group in the context of my upbringing - why listen to one of their albums that each have a couple hits scattered around when you could just "Greatest Hits" them for the rest of your life? Well, now I've decided to rectify this by going back and listening to one of the more ... read more
"Come For the Torture, Stay For the Poetry" YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP LMAO
Decided to give this a fair shot, to tell you the truth it's just kinda plain with little to even comment on. The baity song titles foreshadowed a trek through musical fire and brimstone, but there's nothing here that's worth getting mad at. The recycled jacking-ant-off synths were annoying, Post Malone sounded kinda uncanny, there were some cringe lyrics, but really not too much fueled my vitriol meter ... read more
Most of this album is pretty unremarkable, as it's filled with medicore beats combined with Busta's heavy vocals that don't really mesh cohesively. Same can be said about the features, which mostly just scream "fellow kids" more than anything, not terrible per se. I actually had a good time with some of the songs here, "REMIND 'EM" and "BIG EVERYTHING" had some pretty good verses from Quave and Dababy of all people respectively. It wasn't truly offensive... until ... read more
A landmark record in the realm of hip-hop right here. You can tell that each member of Wu-Tang gave it their all on "36 Chambers", as it becomes quickly abundant how creative and masterful each of their wild performances turn out. There isn't a wasted breath on here whatsoever, every element just fits into place and paints this complete portrait that would be studied and refined for years to come. The little skits between songs felt endearing, the flows are perfection, it's the ... read more
