Aesop Rock AND Vast Aire on the SAME song? WHAT IS THIS, A CROSSOVER EPISODE???
Nah but this was some really good stuff, production steals the show at times (the "Won't Get Fooled Again" sample on "1,000 Whispers" was a nice suprise) and Illogic's rapping is interesting enough to keep my attention for most of it. Fans of underground abstract will get a kick out of this.

Checked this out purely based on the evocative cover, left spitting out teeth and giving a hole-filled smile.
Huge fan of roblox propaganda also
This album ripped me a new asshole, which I certainly didn't expect to happen today, but hey the more the merrier I guess.
Now, I can completely understand not vibing with this album. To any sane person who decides to listen, "Crack Cloud$ Over Arts Kitchen" sounds like an assortment of overwhelming dribble hell-bent on defying musical boundaries or limits, by making the most unlistenable ear-fucking witch house that would make any traditional coven quiver in fear. But digging deeper ... read more
Crazy how I've never head this until now, "Piñata" is scarily consistent in providing modern gangsta rap bangers with wonderful Madlib production and a fantastic list of features that never ceases to please or impress. It definitely earns that elusive "modern classic" monicker with some of the most effective verses and deliberately genius sample choices one can find today.
Adding this to the "play for people who complain about modern hip hop" list
This album feels like a jackhammer going to town on your ear canal, unfortunately it felt too repetitive in places and the latter half didn't live up to the beginning tracks in scope or memorability. It got the "brutal" part down pat, but the "prog" elements weren't given enough chances to breathe, and ultimately served as an excuse to drag out the song lengths in some cases ("2 Towers" would benefit from being shortened imo). That said, the maximalist ... read more
Local idiot listens to album on a whim that's way out of his comfort zone, enjoys it more than he expected, more at 11
THANKS FOR 100 FOLLOWERS, LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!
An absolutely bizarre showcase of dreamy rock passages that occasionally gets a bit too overzealous at times, "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" has some of the most introspective post-rock bangers that mere words alone can't do proper justice to. It's like if Pink Floyd and Slowdive did a collab album that attempted to push the boundaries of how euphoric reverbed-out rock can sound. The standout dreamy tracks on here ... read more
Glad I finally listened to this all the way through. Future is the king of hazy trap vibes, and he delivers an amazing set of moody turn-up bangers on "DS2". Personally, I think "Monster" is more of a consistent project with higher highs, but I can completely understand preferring this over it. Also, how is this my first time listening to "I Serve the Base", that song is fucking amazing.
Holy shit, this is one of the most mesmerizing things I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. With its wonderfully euphoric approach to trip hop instrumentation, "Mezzanine" is still pushing sonic boundaries over 20 years after its initial release.
Edit: Ignore the rest of this review, just know that this album completely falls apart outside of the singles (and that Quelle Chris song was fine also). Every other song either sonds like a half baked interlude, a groggy mess, or like if "Danity Kane" by Earl was repeatedly copied from memory and sung by a reverbed out husk. Let's hope a By Storm album happens sooner rather than later, because this RiTchie solo project just isn't it.
Please keep in mind that I'm a ... read more
