It's hard to explain what truly makes "Close to the Edge" so pleasing to listen to, but what it comes down to (for me) would be the groove and flow between each part. This thing is only 3 songs long, but it feels like so many more, with how progressive and captivating each song winds up being by their conclusion. The title track in particular is so ethereal and transcendent, it's hard to convey with words. Hearing is believing with this album, so sit back and enjoy some of the best ... read more
Hate me all you want, this record WOULD be a perfect 100 for me IF MOONCHILD WASN'T ON IT!
Every other song is enchanting and wonderful in its own way, the vocals are excellent and the production is top notch in atmosphere and intrigue. The exception, of course, is the 12 minute SLOG of a fourth track that halts the wonderful pace of this otherwise near flawless prog album to a crawl. There are points in the beginning where it tricks you into thinking it's going to progress in any meaningful ... read more
I'm sure people will find this a bit crazy, but I didn't enjoy the first song on this album, really at all when I first heard it. Something about it felt ineffective and bland to me at the time, and it almost put me off from listening to the whole thing, alongside the obligatory "Alexis Marshall bad" rhetoric, but I figured that I should just throw myself into it and give it another shot.
To put it short, "You Won't Get What You Want" feels like the auditory form of being ... read more
No lie, this thing is scarier than most horror movies I've seen, while still being one of the best examples of experimental hip hop you can find. Sound effects are effortlessly intertwined with each hard-hitting beat in an atmospheric way, while simultaneously acting as a catchy addition to each track. The door knocking sample on "'96 Neve Campbell" is a perfect example of this, feeling unsettling while also going hard as FUCK. Honestly this album neads to be heard to be believed, ... read more
Nothing really jumped off the page here. It's not bad, just kinda forgettable I guess.
"GET IT? ITS CALLED 'CLPPNG' BECAUSE THEY DON'T USE FIRST PERSON PERSPECTIVE WITHIN THE LYRICS, THUS IT IS LACKING IN THE 'I' DEPARTMENT "π€π£οΈπ€π£οΈπ€π£οΈ
My first experience with clipping. was listening to Story 2, I think Brad talked about it in a video or something lol. And ever since, I've been a huge fan of them. But for a while, I appreciated this album more than I actually enjoyed it, preferring their more horrorcore adjacent output (alongside their sci-fi ... read more
EXCUSE ME WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS???
Never in my life did I expect to hear grandma Yeezus, but here we are I guess. To boil this thing down sonically, it kinda sounds like if MIA MAYA was crossbred with Black Ben Carson era Peggy production, and for some reason it works really well. Lyrics are often a bizarre mix of deranged proclamations and, in the opening track's case, just random words half of the time, it's really weird but there's some infectious quality to it that I really enjoyed from ... read more
I am getting more and more concerned that Paramore was a fluke and this album is going to be medicore, please prove me wrong A24.
Really solid and consistent rage project, overall had an amazing time with it. Despite the amount of songs, it never felt too long or boring, new ideas were bountiful and interesting throughout. My only main complaint would be how the album peaks at the first song, but even then, tracks like "iCarly :/" keep things fresh and lively. Great stuff, can't wait to dive into Don's discog more!
After all these thousands of years listening to this album, I'm still stuck on the opening track. I'll finish it eventually...
Nah but for real, really enjoyed my time with this thing overall. It's extremely unique and expressive for ambient noise metal, and definitely caught me off guard at multiple intervals. Certainly not something for everybody, but hey, this is Boris and Merzbow we're talking here, it's not going for mass appeal. It does in fact get pretty noisy at times, but unlike the ... read more
