Look at me always playing catch up, I could be listening to the new Yeat or some shit (or Little Simz's new EP for that matter), but silly ol' me never got around to SIMBI's "Sometimes I Might Be Introvert" released in the ancient times of 2021. And honestly, there isn't much I can say about this album and what makes it good - it just happens to be one of the most uplifting, well-produced, and inspired rap releases in the last 10 years. The overabundance of interludes seemed a bit ... read more

Blending the previously released and new songs, Quadeca's "SCRAPYARD" album takes the three ep series and fills in the gaps, providing a complete package while fleshing out his sound throughout. This thing is truly experimental and off-the-wall, while remaining consistent in tone and quality. It took me some time to warm up to some of the new interlaced cuts, such as "WAY TOO MANY FRIENDS" and "WHAT'S IT TO HIM?", but by their conclusion, I ... read more
I avoided listening to this for so long, out of spite, after a year of Spotify shoving it down my throat. Needless to say, I caved and decided to finally check it out.
People may look at "BlackBolshevik" and immediate scream "PEGGY!", and I can see why. The sampled Fantano soundbyte on the first track really doesn't help things. But to me, Ghais is distinct enough from Jpegmafia to stand on his own, despite the obvious parallels (experimental hip hop artists that utilize ... read more
Sucks that I missed out on this album last year, because it's a very sweet and fulfilling listen.
Edit: (64 -> 45) Yeah this thing grew off me hard, came back for another listen and was severely disappointed with it. Basically the whole review is kinda moot, the only songs I still like are "FNA", "Dead Men Tell No Lies", and "Sabotage", the rest either suck or have ok moments but nothing show-stopping. Here's my previous review for reference:
This album attempts to scratch a TON of itches at once: to boil down its overall sound, the delivery on this album ... read more

I appreciate the passion and enthusiasm behind this, but the way the bars are annunciated and the lyrical content in general irk me.
It comes across as a psuedo meme-rap flow; the bars kinda bleed into each other and everything feels rushed and hurried along.
I really wanted to like the opening track, and again, I appreciate the powerful vocal performance and the message behind it, just can't get past the delivery and the repetitive lyrics.
Maybe I'm being too harsh, idk.
This is the first time in a long while something, anything at all in the realm of art has made me "speechless" almost completely after listening to it. And yet, here I am, blabbering on and on, hur hur.
But seriously. Without hyperbole, this thing fucks. And I can't understand a word of it lyrically. The production on this album is unlike anything I've ever experienced, no words could truly convey the feelings of unease and awe this project puts you through. It elevates it to another ... read more
Edit: (85 -> 92) Would you look at that, an album grew on me. Big shocker, but I'm SOOOO glad it was this one. Geese have proven themselves as one of the most exciting acts in this new punk country wave, and I'm all here for it. "Mysterious Love" is genuinely one of my favorite songs EVER now, seriously give that one in particular another listen if it's been a while.
I can feel this album growing on me. I'll probably bump the score up in a few listens or so.
He somehow made the intro more cringeworthy than 17...
That being said, I honestly think this is better than 17. That's not exactly saying much, though.
Decided to actually give this a full shot, as I never listened to it in full until now. Yeah, this didn't captivate me very much. It had fleeting moments and personal ideas, but they weren't expressed in a way that kept me engaged. And that's pretty bad when this album is only 21 minutes long.
I'm admittedly out of my element here, but WOW did this wind up winning me over in the end. It's short, which means it's devoid of any filler, while consistently wowing me through its runtime. Definitely one I'll have to re-listen to, but for now, this was loads of fun.
Compared to "The Cold Vein", an album I love unconditionally, and "Labor Days'', which is one of my favorite albums of all time, "Fantastic Damage" holds up incredibly well. It has some messy spots here and there (Dead Disnee's hook isn't as catchy as it wants to be), and the vocals are mixed a bit too quitetly at certain parts, but it can't be argued how influential this album was in the context of the entire Def Jux story, skyrocketing them to relative underground ... read more
In one of the most triumphant and artistic demonstrations of music ever recorded, LONER is an intricately crafted masterpiece that masterfully marries the rage-filled metal sound with the emo rap genre, as Jumex blends these two different genres in a way that makes it look effortless.
Effortless, because it took no effort to make this garbage. GET IT???
