One of the most consistent rap projects I've ever heard, imo there are ZERO misses during the impressively hefty 85 minute runtime. "4eva Is a Mighty Long Time" is one of modern hip hop's crowning achievements, and deserves every bit of praise it's garnered over the past few years, maybe a bit more if you ask me.
"Under Enemy Arms" is pretty fire, the rest of this is completely disposable. Like, WHY ARE THE HOOKS SO FUCKING BAD OMG
This was absolutely soul crushing, fuck man. I don't even know how to properly verbalize the oddities that present themselves on Swans' infamous "Soundtracks For The Blind", but I'll do my best I guess. Passages of synthy ambient sludge cover these harrowing post-rock instrumentals, as sampled vocal recordings and odd spoken word bits fill out the resulting atmosphere. Said recordings / vocals depict cryptic events and strange performances that feel important, but ultimately there's a ... read more
Has some great moments of bombastic synth-backed industrial rock, but doesn't feel fully developed yet. It's just a debut though, I'm sure they'll vastly improve with their next release!
this makes me want to shoot my old lady (i caught her messing around with another man)
Strangely enough, I wasn't as enamored with "Cavalcade" as I expected to be. Sure, there's the off-the-wall insanity they're known for on here, but I couldn't help feeling that they were dragging their feet during most of the runtime. The progressive aspect of songs like "Diamond Stuff" and "Marlene Dietrich" are still impressive to an extent, but it's just a matter of the band setting a high bar on "Schlagenheim" and not being able to live up to it, ... read more
Kinetic, frantic, relentless, hard as fuck, truly bizarre in many places, it's a pity how late I've been in regards to riding the black midi bandwagon. Now that I'm firmly on it, however, songs like "bmbmbm" and "953" are preventing me from ever getting off, as "Schlagenheim" marks one of the best introductions to a group in years.
It's 3 am and I'm too tired to write a well-thought out review, but just trust me, this shit is ABSOLUTE FIREπ₯π₯π₯
With the first ever seen additions of "asynchronous polyrhythms" and "vocal performances", this flawless masterpiece stands the test of time, and has proven to be one of the best examples of sonic proficiency and dedication to the music-making craft. Adding to the multifaceted brilliance of ^_^ by Hello Kitty Suicide Club, is its unparalleled fusion of genres. The incorporation of neoclassical darkwave elements injects a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere into the music, ... read more
My dad fucking loves Peter Gabriel, and I'm starting to see why. Of course "Solsbury Hill" is a classic, but this album's got some lesser known bangers on it, like the opening track, alongside "Modern Love" and "Here Comes the Flood". There's a nice balance of wacky ideas and sounds that don't always pan out ("Excuse Me"as a primary example, also some parts of "Waiting for the Big One" dragged a bit too much), but there was enough excitement ... read more
Too inconsistent, especially compared to the previous RTJ's greatness. I enjoy the lyrical shift toward more poignant political messages, but that's really all I can say that's an improvement over their previous work. The production definitely got worse from the last two outings, some beats on here were giving me government plates vibes of all things (the "Call Tickertron" instrumental in particular), while others felt simultaneously less interesting and hard-hitting. That being said, ... read more
Lots to chew on with this one. Enjoyed my first listen well enough but I'm sure I'll be back for more, much like Dragon New Warm Mountain.
I didn't listen to this whole thing, but I just have to say, "American tteroristt" is the best thing to EVER grace my ears
God, what a weird listen this turned out to be. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed myself with this album, and it's honestly criminal how underrated this "IKD-SJ" group is. I'll have to give them another shot at some point, but just looking at this album in particular, "World’s End Fruit Basket", there's an infectious quality to the consistently oddball ideas presented on this thing. First off, the vocals, which are a satisfying mix of soothing speech and faint ... read more
