This was a cute little rec from a friend! This is some nice RnB/funk/indie rock idk what to call it. With a nice vocalist, great instrumentation, and an overall upbeat mood, this is a short but sweet project. Songs like Phone, Make it Out, and All the Time are really energetic and fun, and I had a good time. The only thing I wish was a bit more consistent about it was its runtime. With 9 songs but only 26 minutes in length this thing really zips by you fast. I feel like just by adding 1 or 2 ... read more
I thought this album started off pretty good! And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Crazy Love, and Into the Mystic were all great songs. But I can't help but feel the album nosedives in quality by the second half. Like, not bad, but it feels boring and the songs get blended together. I just wish there was a bit more variety/standout moments in the album like in the first half, because even for a short album, it feels like it loses steam relatively quick. Even then, Van Morrison's writing ... read more
OMG I forgot to rate this from last week! This was a very fun album with some great sounds, a chill voice, and also just an overall feeling that maybe things will be alright. Maybe I'm projecting a bit bc school is kicking my ass rn, but I want summer 2026 to sound like this. That bass, especially on Look Your Back!, is genuinely SO GOOD.
Pretty fun time! I've had a decent amount of pre-TMBG exposure prior to this, so I knew a few songs on here, but the full product really is necessary to know the whole picture. Flood is fast and quippy, with lots of ideas zinging past you so fast you sometimes don't even process them. Wonderfully weird, deceptively detailed, and all that jazz. The short song deal actually works in their favor a bit, because it kinda gives an otherwise unrelated-sounding album some cohesion. This feels ... read more
Overall very very fun time! I think the album did start off just a tad bit better in the beginning, but as it went on, there was just this really chill vibe. Between the hip hop/rnb elements on tracks like Superstylin' and My Friend, and the more lowkey moments like Likwid or Edge Hill, there's really a cohesive vibe here that's hard to dog on. Even for it being a long album, it rarely ever drags, and it definitely feels like a step up from Vertigo for me. Really neat, thanks ... read more
Of all the Mo' Horizons albums I've heard thus far, this is the one I kinda struggle to figure out where it fits. It has the best flow from track to track, but it also feels like it stands out the least, except for the first and last tracks. It's still a good time, but I think the songs can get a bit repetitive on here from time to time. It's not frequent enough to lower my enjoyment of the album, but I think I'd take Sunshine Today given the choice. Still, pretty neat.
Got this rec from one of my friends who knows these guys! This was a really neat time, I must say. It seems to switch between indie rock and a more folk-y sound, but it's a really nice time throughout. Really sweet, and kinda just warm sounding, but with a lot going on in each track. My favorite tracks were definitely Bowling as Friends and the titular track, but this is definitely a worthwhile listen that I think lots of people should check out. Good time!
APRIL YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN
In the past year or so, underscores has grown on me a ton. Like, a LOT. Wallsocket became the soundtrack to my graduation and moving on to college (it was scarily accurate; my university is less than an hour's drive away from the Wallsocket horseshoe.) Then, I listened to fishmonger at the start of this semester, and that kickstarted my underscores artist obsession. Now, U is out, and it's definitely a different sound, but one I adore nonetheless. This ... read more
I found this album to be much more of my thing compared to Come Touch The Sun! That album was pretty solid, but this one just feels so much more chill. I love the Latin beach-y here, and I think the wide range of sounds and vocals really work in its favor. It's just a very passively good album with a lot going for it, even if it can drag for just a bit at times. Ty MakMjuzz for the rec!
This is a very sweet album with a lot going for it! A really nice voice, good range, and really well-done production makes for a range of songs that make you feel, but not necessarily in a bad way. Definitely the best songs were Kokomo, IN as well as Tactics. I may not have a lot to say about this, but it's just pretty nice. I only wish it might have been a bit longer, since if it weren't for that last song, it'd only be a 30 minute album.
Wow this was surprising. Sorry it took me so long to get to this, but there are some really good concepts here! A pretty easy to follow story and good production are definitely the highs of the album. The rapping is solid but could be better, but also this is a first project so I can't say too much ab that. I think that overall this is a really neat first project that has my interest piqued for what might come next. Good stuff!
This feels pretty nostalgic for a reason I can't describe. Whether it's the story being told in the back, the instrumentation, or something else I can't pick up on, this album is one of those that can craft a world it lives in. After listening long enough, you really feel wrapped into the Valley of the Rainbow. It feels like a real place. This album feels like it could be the score to an animated movie that would become a cult classic. Like, change nothing about the audio, and i ... read more
Very fun time! Pretty ambient but still groovy. I think the best moments were definitely Hold On and Brazil, because they felt like you could just be absorbed into the "world" theyre building. It was just a really neat time, and I liked how it was one of those albums where it kind of all fades into one contuinuous track. I approve!
This EP is just really really solid honestly. I really love the wide range of sounds you can hear on this thing; like, from Flash in the Pan to Music Baby to Dream Sequence, everything really sticks out, so even though there are only 6 songs, everything feels distinct and fleshed out, and in turn, even though the project is less than a half hour long, it really sticks with you. Fun, sad, and deceptively energetic. I really need to get into the rest of Jane Remover's projects, damn.
that jumpscare at 4:28 of "Satta" is genuinely fucking evil
anyways besides that I enjoyed this, very chill and lowkey album, felt like wandering through a faraway planet, but like a familiar one nonetheless. maybe that's a weird description but this is a really nice passive album honestly, ty @MakMJuzz for the rec!
A pretty sweet album that maybe plays it a bit safe at times, but I think is still good! Olivia Dean has a solid voice, and it's nice to have these more lowkey songs in the pop scene right now. So Easy (To Fall in Love) is a really great song that I hope gets even more love in the future. I think some songs can maybe blend together, but this album definitely puts Olivia Dean on the scene, and of all the people just entering pop music right now, Olivia is definitely one I have my eyes on.
This is just really really solid the entire time! PinkPantheress is a good producer and a better singer. A lot of the stuff from to hell with it that I had problems with are much better here, but the album still feels like an evolution of its preceding EP. Songs are short, but with a lot more character and content, with some great moments across a variety of sounds. Yet, the pop-rnb sound that persists through it remains the same, keeping the experience cohesive. It starts and ends strong, ... read more
I hate it when I find music like this because I should have been into this so much longer ago but my dumbass kept putting off the rec. Very groovy, very fun, yet almost atmospheric? I don't really like to see this as an album with tracks, but more one whole experience. Makes the whole thing feel a lot more fluid in a great way. It just feels like having fun, in a way. Like, the soundtrack to a good time in life, or maybe that's just because of the music sounding like the band is ... read more
I think this album has some really good moments, but the overall project does unfortunately get dampened by its rather short length. Songs like "between i and she", "b i g f e e l i n g s", and "the fear is not real" really drive in how she has a great singing voice, but a lot of these tracks, maybe because of their short length or maybe because of the unclear line between interlude and full song, get lost in translation. Some great moments in here that I want to ... read more
I feel like when it comes to reviewing albums like this, there's not much more I can add or say, but this is just really good. I will say, it does take a little bit to reach that peak territory (I think the first half of the album is all very solid or good, but it doesn't get, like, consistently amazing until good kid). But damn there's just so much here. Tons of great production, samples, writing, and more make a beautiful concept album. A tad bit overrated, but just a tiny, tad ... read more
