This is an album that's just very easy to love. It's just so pretty the whole time, with great vocals and smooth production. But the album isn't all just surface glimmer; deep down, there's so much to say in each track, especially on Feel No Pain and Pearls. This is just an album I feel that you'd be hard pressed to find any actual haters of, because it feels like it just appeals to everyone. Everything is great, and it especially works for me, because it has everything ... read more
This was short but relatively sweet. I will say, the album being so short does work kind of against it, because the most developed track to me was Diamond Head, when there are songs that, if they were expanded out a bit more, could've been a lot greater. Specifically thinking about Wake the World and Friends here. This album just zips by you so fast that you barely process it. It's good still though! Pretty cute moments on this. Thanks to @Shayden for recommending this like a year ago!
Can't lie, this was a lil underwhelming. Brent Faiyaz has some definite good moments on here: Gravity is a chill but beautifully made song, and the hits All Mine and Dead Man Walking were notable, too. I also thought the range of features was nice; from modern artists like Tyler and Drake to more 2000s artists like Alicia Keys and the Neptunes. The worst thing is, though, some of these tracks are just kind of forgettable. Especially the stretch between Oblivion and Wake Up Call, only a few ... read more
Wasn't sure if I would get the vision with this one but after listening to it while I studied I think I get the hype! Very ambient project and the tracks feel similar to one another, but that works in its favor. It's like, sitting in a lounge in my dorm doing chem work, looking out the window while it's snowing and thinking "maybe it'll all be alright after all". I may need to revisit this one!
This was a really weird time, and I really don't know how to feel. I think black midi may just not be all my thing, but I can still appreciate this album for what it does. It's very creative, and some of these compositions feel like horror movie or thriller tracks. I did find Geordie Greep's vocals to get a bit repetitive over time, except for 27 Questions. It's like putting 2 bootleg plays on at the same time, and telling a jam band to go fucking wild, which results in some ... read more
The Last Dinner Party is just consistently really good, I guess. When I first listened to Prelude to Ecstasy, I thought it was absolutely incredible, and while it has grown off me a bit, I think this album deserves a lot more praise. This album is just big and grand, with lots of confidence. It's like they took the basis they established on songs like Portrait of a Dead Girl and Mirror to make this album. This feels like, had it come out in the 70s, it would be considered an absolute great ... read more
I love it when my mom is right about music recs. This is just a seamless album that has no flaws. Such a wide range of R&B and such a beautiful range, great production, and addictingly catchy melodies. Try Again is a classic I've known for years without even knowing, and even the lesser-known songs like I Can Be and Never No More are incredible. This is an immaculate way to make an hour literally disappear. I don't even have the words for how good this is. Am I giving out 100s too ... read more
I don't get why this has a higher score than Fishmonger, because this EP is good, but fismonger has a lot more cohesion overall. I think this is really interesting because it's almost like a transition step between fishmonger and wallsocket. More poppy, more electronic, more distortion, etc... The guitars in the second half of "Everybody's dead!" remind me of cops and robbers, Loansharks reminds me of "Stupid (can't run from the urge)", and overall it ... read more
I gave going...going...GONE! a 99/100 because it didn't have sever the blight, and this album has sever the blight.
On a more serious note, I've been a fan of hemlocke springs since 2022. I considered myself a locket when stranger danger and sever the blight dropped, two incredible songs. When she followed that up with heavun and enknee1, I realized just how much of an incredible artist hemlocke really was. She has such a uniquely authentic form of expressing herself, with near-poetic ... read more
Ngl can't say I wasn't a lil disappointed with this one, went in blind knowing only that Flying Lotus is a great friend of Thundercat and is apparently really good at jazz rap, so I didn't expect this to be a wonky instrumental glitch hop album. It was pretty neat but admittedly not entirely my thing. I can really appreciate some of the choices, like the Table Tennis song was some neat stuff, and looking into the production of Galaxy in Janaki made me appreciate it more. I'd ... read more
This is a very strange listen for me, but I'm pretty sure I enjoy it? Short, to the point (except Dry land 2001), but pretty energetic. It really is like pop-punk mixed with hyperpop, but with a bit more of an indie feel than Wallsocket. I fell in love with Wallsocket this past semester, and fishmonger definitely feels less refined, but there's an inherent charm to this. This album reminds me of waking up at 7am in early 2021 before the sun rose to log into online school. I can't ... read more
hhhhHOLY SHIT dude. Okay, mini story before I yap. I found this album through "If You Want It". Someone on a tiktok live was playing a bunch of songs on a record player, and he switched on "If You Want It". I shazammed the song right before it went off, turned on the song, and... dear god I was obsessed with this song. It was just so surprising that this song wasn't more popular, because the bass was great, the vocals were amazing, and that high note??? what the HELL ... read more
Hi! I'm not dead! However I DID take on 17 credit hours lord help me. This came as a recommendation from my English professor, actually, and I had a really fun time! This album feels neat because it's like, half a throwback sound, like 2010s nostalgia, but it also feels new. Like, someone who grew up in the 2010s looking back on it present day. Trying to emulate that sound but also having naturally evolved. It's really neat, and when the album hits, it really hits. Fuck My ... read more
Some pretty good funk/jazz, and an overall easy listen/fun time. The first track really draws you into this world, and even with only one track being non instrumental, is able to grip you the whole time. I like it!
This was a very unexpected album and a neat pull from when I was going through some recs from Spotify's shitty algorithm! This album really feels like a mix between Magdalena Bay and Men I Trust. More soft, atmospheric pop, which some electronic/funk elements throughout, as well as a bit of a ligher voice thats kinda unique. When this album works, it really works, especially on songs like Side Quest, Rippes, and 4D. It's a really neat time with a unique sound, and a cover that may ... read more
MHM this is some good stuff. I think this album is a nice step forward for PARTYOF2. Moving on after losing a third of your creative input leaves a group in a dangerous situation, but PO2 really makes it through relatively unscathed. I think their previous album was a bit more experimental, but that's not to discredit this album like at all. There's still a good range of sounds here. POSER is brash and blunt, but in a good way (go get the mop for me). JUST DANCE 2 is really divisive, ... read more
This was honestly pretty good! I think this album's main shortcoming is that it's admittedly inconsistent. You've got songs like FUNKFEST, still alive, and Peak here, which are really great and fun, but then songs like club song :(, TrunkPoppers.com, and Help Pt. 2 aren't bad, but a definitely massive shift in quality from those highs. Still, I kind of really appreciate the experimentation here. It's such a fun album, with some tracks just being energetic. Might be the ... read more
This was a strange time, but I think I liked it! Definitely more ambient at times than I expected. I went into this expecting it to be more like the Strokes, but this was also nice. Very laid back, very emotional but well done. Not everything was exactly my favorite, but this is that kind of album I feel like most people can appreciate and enjoy on a level, even if the album itself didn't do much for them. That's where I stand on this. Not my personal favorite music, but I can ... read more
This is pretty neat and solid music, but top 100 of all time? I think Apple Music might be tripping a bit. This entire album is good, but never amazing once you get past that admittedly iconic opener. Some of these songs are a bit too generic, a bit too long, or are just lacking that overall feel. Still, if you turned this on at a chill hangout, I doubt anyone would really have a problem. It's not bad at ALL, hell, it's even decent, but it's just overhyped...
Some really good stuff! Once again, Kylie Minogue delivers with some fun and addicting pop beats. There's really like no misses here. It may not be anything mind blowing lyrically, but the production more than delivers. Especially on songs like More More More, Fever, and In Your Eyes, these songs could be in my head for ages on end. Dangerous music, seriously, but in a good way. It's kind of funny how Can't Get You Out of My Head is by far the most popular song from here though. ... read more
