A collection of really fun, happy songs. It's nothing you haven't heard before, but it makes me smile :)
This is just... too out there. Cool production and nice that he made it, I guess, but it just doesn't click with me. Glad it seems to for other people though.
Hideous. The pitch shifting sounds borderline unlistenable, and the whole thing just sounds obnoxious. Bonus track was pretty OK though, and a nice precursor to the sounds that later gecs tracks down the line would go onto perfect.
Hi everyone. So basically, it's 1AM at the time of my writing this. I probably should've been asleep hours ago, given that I have school in just a few hours, yet I'm spending another late night up thinking about "Worlds". It's like there's been a constant feeling right in the back of my head for months now, almost a year, even. This account is almost a year old, meaning in total I've been on AOTY for over 2 years. Weird. At any rate, for anyone under the impression that I've ... read more
There are parts of this that sound genuinely fantastic, but the whole thing is such an overwhelming experience that I just can't say I was fully there the entire journey. As a live performance alone, however, I'm stunned by the fact that a performance of this magnitude managed to be captured so well. I particularly loved the drum solo during the last ten minutes or so, really effective way to end off such a great performance. I just really, really wish I had the energy (and patience) to sit ... read more
Stunningly beautiful. Spotless production, and a wonderfully diverse arrangement of instruments.
Hear me out. It's not... THAT bad.
Yeah, shocked to say I legitimately enjoyed some of this! There's certainly some weak production at points and some pretty stupid songs, but this thing is so fun I honestly don't care. He brings a lot of energy to the table and I think the fact that Kevo is so open about his religion is pretty admirable. That's about it. I don't hate it, shockingly.
Just kind of a mess if I'm being honest. Many obnoxious or otherwise unnecessary features, dated and occasionally annoying production, and the record itself is a complete tonal nightmare, with half the songs feeling like they were made for entirely different albums and were instead just tacked onto this one. There's some fantastic moments here and there, with the obvious standout being "Empire Ants", which is easily my favorite Gorillaz song, but yeah. This group just isn't my thing, ... read more

what a beautiful time to be alive
wtf man
John and Alice definitely work off each other in very interesting ways. There's a lot of experimentation going on here, but it all works really well, and if you manage to get past the pretty chaotic introduction, this is a pretty calming record in a lot of ways. As calming as Coltrane's music can get, anyway.
Certainly very interesting and pretty avant-garde at points, but ultimately outside of the vocals I didn't get much out of this. Her vocals are great, yes, but the fact that this album is so short is confusing and weird and many of the tracks here just blend together for me unfortunately. Still a really interesting listen and worth hearing at least once, but yeah, better out there.
I feel like there's a certain guideline when it comes to the music of free jazz. There's a collective understanding, once you listen through any record in the genre, that the artists who are making it have the ability and the opportunity to throw absolutely anything they want at you. They take this opportunity and seize it, often times leaving many confused, disoriented, or just plain annoyed, all understandable reactions. "Black Woman" is the rare case of a jazz album that can really ... read more
If you want to hear jazz at its freest in terms of artistic creative expression, check these two editions out. Definitely not for everyone, but definitely for me.
I just... don't get this music, man. I can understand wanting to push the boundaries, and he certainly does that, but at what cost? There are occasional moments of cool atmosphere, and occasional moments of genuine immersion, but the rest of this just feels like random experimentation with no actual purpose behind it. That's not to say that the music itself is bad, I can appreciate it for being interesting and certainly for feeling particularly liminal, but I don't know. I just don't click with ... read more
I mean... there's worse out there, I guess. I genuinely love Mexican Fender as an opener and think it's super underrated, but the rest of the stuff here ranges from decent to insufferably sugary sweet. I'm sure they had fun making this, and that's awesome, but it doesn't do much for me personally. That album cover is amazing though.
Intimate vocal performances and interesting instrumentals made this a pretty unique listen, but not really the type of thing I envision myself revisiting often. With that being said, it's a really good record and I'm very happy I heard it.
One of those albums that just captures the beauty and occasional stillness of life in a really beautiful way. I struggle to think of an ambient and/or new age album that feels this vivid, and while I can imagine it being a very patience testing record for some, it's also extremely rewarding for those willing to give it the undivided attention it deserves.
