Dolly Parton is literally one of the coolest human beings ever to exist, and this album is so, so nice. I really love Dolly's voice and her lyrics just push all the right buttons for me. I can only see this getting better with time, but yeah. Loved it. Highly recommend checking it out, even if you're not a particularly big fan of country.
Really lush soundscapes and wonderful from both a musical and lyrical standpoint. The singing is really beautiful, and the project as a whole just leaves a good impression on the listener.
"Eddie Gale's Ghetto Music" manages to cast a hypnotic spell over the listener from its first few seconds alone. The vocals are beautiful and alluring, the instrumentals varied and entrancing, the lyrics endlessly intriguing. All these elements are perfectly matched with the almost spiritual energy that this collective brings to the table, and you can tell that every single person involved in the making of this album poured their heart and soul into it. On top of this, there's just ... read more
I admire the clear passion and love that was poured into this thing, but with that being said, I don't like it. While I'm all for artists switching up their sound and doing different things, I don't think Lincoln's voice, tone or lyrics really fit this style well at all. It just sounds unnatural and a little amateurish to my ears. That's not to say that any of these tracks are bad, most of them are just fine or decent, but as a whole this project is just aggressively mediocre and reeks of an ... read more
Bonus points for this one being actually musical, I guess. On a more serious note, though, this is kind of a mixed bag for me personally. John's vocals are mostly fine, he's never been one of my favorite vocalists, but his voice sounds OK here, when he's not screaming that is. Then it sounds borderline hideous. The lyrics here are pretty weak, especially by the standards of someone like John, who was well known for his songwriting. On here, a lot of the lyrics just read as very dull political ... read more
There's just no flavor to this? The vocals are pretty standard for Lizzo, if a bit under ambitious, and the instrumentals especially feel weak and stale. The lyrics are basic self-love type stuff that honestly just kind of makes me roll my eyes at this point, and the whole project just feels really derivative and flashy for the sake of being flashy. Simply put, no one will remember who Lizzo is ten years from now.
The fact that the part of fellow feeling that was literally made to shit on 90% of EDM from the 2010s was remixed into a danceable, explosive section is honestly just the perfect encapsulation of this colossal piece of shit
This album is dirty, dark and dangerous. The guitar tones are menacing, the vocals manage to do the screamo sound in a way that doesn't feel grating or annoying, and the wall of sound that each track manages to capture is just so exciting to listen through. Sitting at a brief 19 minute runtime, "Chaos Is Me" doesn't overstay its welcome for a second. It's a quick rush of adrenaline that I'm looking forward to experiencing again. All killer, no filler.
For the life of me, I just can't find the appeal in Sachiko M's music. What's probably the most aggravating part to me is the fact that there's very little objectively wrong with her music that I can point to, because it's so minimal and ultimately inoffensive that it just makes me feel nothing. There are occasional moments where something here feels meditative or peaceful, and there is a patience testing quality to her music that I do admire, especially as my attention span grows thinner and ... read more

idk what to rate this honestly im just putting this rating in for the meme
Every VDP release just has a certain mystique about it that is near impossible to deny for me. It's like staring into the water in a water fountain, feeling completely entranced by it, while simultaneously being able to experience the out of body feeling of floating in it - feeling weightless as your understanding of time and memory fades away. Luke's music always gets a unique experience out of me, which is something that I can say about very, very few artists. I'm so happy to have this guy ... read more
In spite of how influential and important this album is for vaporwave music, I still think that as an album this could've felt a bit more cohesive and well paced. That's not to say that this is a bad project by any means, in fact, I liked every track! I just feel like a lot of the initial excitement and intrigue I felt for this album quickly wore off, and the 50 minute runtime does feel a bit demanding at times. Still though, this is a very important album that revolutionized a lot of unique ... read more
This is good, but it feels kind of lacking. Not only in the vocals, which are low enough in the mix to the point of near-unintelligibility, but there are numerous tracks here that don't feel fully formed or completed, with them either lacking any direction and closing out on an explosive ending that feels tacked on to make these tracks feel complete, or they just fade out before they even get to do anything. A lot of this project just kind of meanders for me and it doesn't really feel like ... read more
A pretty good one from Miles. It's nothing too outside the norm of most '50s jazz, and to be perfectly honest this feels rather generic for Miles' usual output, but it's fine it's good I like it whatever.
Nina Simone follows up her opus with a collection of great, bluesy tracks. Instrumentally, this is arguably one of Simone's most laidback, evoking the feeling of sitting back in a seedy pub while watching Simone belt out these tunes. Ironically, this is one of Simone's least depressing from a lyrical standpoint, although she obviously still finds time to squeeze in some pretty somber lyrics here and there. With that being said, the more upbeat tracks here might've been what held this back for ... read more
Nina Simone is one of the most powerful vocalists of all time. Her range may not be the most impressive, but every line she sings is so raw, so emotional, and so pained, that I hang onto every word. She managed to craft some of the most emotionally potent lyrics I've ever heard on her masterpiece, "Wild Is the Wind", and I'm genuinely kind of shocked at how it took me this long to realize what an insanely talented artist she truly was. Many tracks here deal with themes of love and ... read more
Brilliant. Every song is engaging and exciting even with there being some rather lengthy tracks here, and everyone here has an insane level of proficiency with their instruments. Perfectly transported me back to the time it was made in a way that I can't really describe.
Listen, I know everyone has said this already, but this really does sound a lot like Vespertine. Vocally, this is completely separate from that album, but in terms of the production, it shows some pretty glaring similarities. That's my main problem though: not only is the inspiration obvious, but it's lacking in a lot of the core elements that made that album work. As a result of this, many tracks here were just sort of in one ear and out the other for me, and there really wasn't a lot that ... read more
