holy shit this was bad
Awful vocals, horrible lyrics, ugly instrumentals, my god what a mess this was...
Such a classic. Doesn't at all feel commercial, it just captures the pure magic and happiness that the season brings. My dad really loves this album, specifically the title track, and I can't say I blame him. It's just super cozy and makes me feel good inside. Would love to pick this up on vinyl someday.
Merry Christmas everyone, hope it's a good one for you :)
Luke Laurila is a genius. Nothing he's made has ever been replicated, and no matter how much vaporwave I hear, none of it strikes the same chord with me that his does. Everything he releases is so hypnotic, so beautiful, and so tranquil to me, and the fact that I still to this day am at a loss to how a lot of his material was produced is just a testament to how unique his particular brand of vaporwave and ambient was. This release in particular only further proves that fact, it's simple, ... read more
I just.. have a soft spot for fun Weezer. Yeah, it just makes me really happy :)
Some pretty angsty and annoying vocals, but other than that, it's some great alt metal. Worth a listen.
One of the most unnerving projects I've heard in some time. Fantastic poem as well, really spoke to me.
Pretty good! Still leaves a lot to be desired in terms of the production, but the music itself is enjoyable and the vocals are better than most in shoegaze.
They've still got it.
Just some really classic and fun j-rock, and really, what more do you need? Vocals are great, riffs are tight, and the tracks are super fun. I genuinely don't understand how anyone could dislike this.
All atmosphere and no progression leads all the tracks here to feeling relatively the same. It's nice music, but I need something more to grab onto outside of just the atmosphere.
Was listening to some of this, mainly as background noise so I could work on a project I needed to get finished. After a little while though, I found myself stopping what I was doing and just allowing myself to be taken in by this record's oddly vivid textures. There's a level of humanity to this music that's hard to ignore - and the atmosphere created is nothing short of hypnotic. The sine waves here were just contained enough to where they didn't hurt my ears, they felt rather calming in ... read more
Very soothing and futuristic. There's a technical simplicity to this music that sets it apart from other ambient releases, while still managing to leave whoever ends up listening feeling pretty at ease. This sounds less like it was made by a computer and more like it was made by a robot, and I don't at all mean that as a negative. It's quite intriguing.
Deeply uncomfortable and disturbing display of sounds. This is easily some of the most avant-garde and abstract music I've ever come across, with everyday pop music occasionally entering in, only to be attacked and destroyed in this album's minimalistic chaos. This album is a lot to process, and thus, it's rather hard to rate. I will likely give this another listen at some point, but for right now, here's what I got.
A pretty transcendent listen front-to-back. The scope of this, specifically for an ambient release, is just super impressive.
I read through the short Pitchfork blurb for this album while listening, and it's like in that moment everything came together for me. There's a lonely and slightly eerie atmosphere that permeates this entire album, yet there's also an underlying beauty to it at all. With so many frequencies coming in and out and everything being placed in a strange spot in the mix, this is a pretty bizarre experience to say the least. I kept imagining myself in a car alone, driving past the seemingly endless ... read more
One of the best hip hop records of the year, for sure. I loved pretty much every bar here, there's a consistent sound that wasn't as much the case on TA13OO which I very much appreciate, and I loved basically everything here. The only thing really holding this back is a few tracks that just kind of felt like filler, but it hardly changed my opinion of the album. Awesome record, definitely better than TA13OO.
Figured I should actually talk about this now, even if I have to write this on my phone. As y’all probably know by now, I really like RiskR’s music, specifically the “staring aimlessly…” tape. Considering this is arguably the most musically ambitious thing she’s ever done, I feel like I should really love this. In fact, I’m kind of bummed that I *didn’t* really love this, although I’m not exactly having a great day either which could be ... read more
This avant-garde oddity is one of the most uniquely fascinating pieces of music I've heard in some time. Not only does it showcase Perfume Genius' ear for experimental and more abstract soundscapes and production choices, but the lyricism here is fantastic in its ability to match the mysterious, strange atmosphere that this album gives off so perfectly. Hadreas' vocals are hushed and soft and fit the tone perfectly as well. It's simply an experience all its own. While sure, there are some ... read more

Yeah, I might honestly like this more than SIMBI. While the production feels a bit weaker in some areas, mainly with some of the instrumentals feeling a bit empty, pretty much everything else about this is great. Simz is back on her bullshit, her delivery is great, her flows are great, and the lyrics here are a huge step up. I also much prefer the more concise track list here, as I feel it gives this album enough room to breathe and make its message clear in its 50 minutes, but it ... read more
