Very good but feels like a downgrade if I'm being honest. The production hasn't really improved too much since "To See the Next Part...", nor has the singing, and while the instrumentals and musical ideas are still ambitious and interesting, it's not interesting enough to justify an hour long runtime. Maybe it'll grow on me, though, who knows.
I'm ashamed that it took me so long to hear this, but yeah, really enjoyed it! The instrumentation is diverse and consistently engaging, with every track being very well produced. The vocal performances got to be a bit too much to bear at points, and I do feel like there was some extra fat on a lot of the songs here that could've easily been cut without it affecting the record, but either way it's still very good. Always refreshing to see new acts that show this level of personality and ... read more
Very good but her discography yields stronger projects in my opinion. The lyrics, while still very well written, weren't really her best or most clever, and a lot of the instrumentals just didn't really shake it up enough to keep me engaged the whole way through.
I do think that with some more time and practice, this might actually be music someday!
Smooth, sensual, and all around catchy, this record s an essential for anyone exploring funk and/or soul adjacent music. This feels like THE album of the '70s, it just encapsulates so many of the ideas and sounds of the time. Love it.
I find it easier to say now more than ever that Have A Nice Life are easily one of my favorite bands of all time. Across only three studio albums, two of which mean more to me than words could ever hope to do justice, I really can't overstate how big a role HANL has played in my love of music over the years. Earlier today, I begun thinking about who I'd want to see live, if given the option, since my mother had brought the idea up to me when I woke up. The obvious pick of the bunch was Have A ... read more
A great album that would've been significantly better had about 10-15 minutes been shaved off. The choice to split this album into four tracks is a bold one, as well as one that piqued my interest almost immediately, but once you actually dive into the meat of this project, there's not a whole lot to keep you entertained past the 5 minute mark. Once the vocals passed and I was left with just the instrumentals, I usually found myself significantly less interested, and would often be waiting for ... read more
this is the only album i'll ever openly admit to skipping parts of. i never do that with music, but this ain't music. this isn't anything. it's a colossal waste of time, one that's pointless to an almost offensive level. if he doesn't care, then why should i even bother trying?
This used to be a big album for me back when I was first getting into music and... yeahhhh it's still fine I guess? The vocals got a bit annoying sometimes, specifically on the last track, and the poor mixing brought down my enjoyment of some tracks, but for the most part it's a fun, short romp of an album.
Pretty good overall I just wish that the beats themselves went a bit harder, if that makes sense. This record has the "hardcore breaks" tag as the top one but it hardly felt deserving of it, which was a little disappointing. Still worth a listen though.
It's solid. Vocals are fine but they certainly could've been better, the instrumentals are unique and interesting, and there is a slightly eerie feeling to this music at times that I'm not entirely sure was intentional. Either way, this is a very good album that I feel like I'd enjoy more if I enjoyed post-punk more as a genre, but whatever. Still really good, cover art is terrible though.
This thing is awesome, wow! Great lyrics, great production, engaging instrumentation, good vocal performances, this is pretty much about as quintessential as '80s heavy metal gets. It's obviously not the best metal album ever made or anything like that, but honestly if you go in with the right expectations this is a really fun and enjoyable album with a particularly fantastic final track. Really, really good stuff.
imagine i died tomorrow and the last album i ever rated was fred fucking figglehorn
Surprisingly cynical lyricism coming from KKB, but still a mostly enjoyable project from them. Sarah's vocals weren't quite up to par yet and the instrumentals feel a bit lacking, but other than that, it's a decent introduction to the band.
It's good? Some extremely solid tracks but a lot of this felt unfinished with the last track in particular feeling completely directionless and like wasted space on what could've been used to flesh out the much better songs here.

This is, like... my god, man. This is awesome. The instrumentation is so unlike anything from its time and combine that with the vocals, the pristine production, and the lyricism, which likely remains among the best I've heard on any rock album or otherwise, and you have one of the most immersive, exciting, fresh, and transportive albums of all time, which is exactly what this record is. This can only get better with time.
Exactly what you'd expect based on the cover. Super loud, fast, and cutthroat, never dwelling on a single musical idea for longer than what is necessary. The heaviness of everything adds to the experience, and while they won't work for everyone, I really liked the vocal performances on this and thought they matched the style and sound of the record really well.
