Honestly the worst sin that this album commits is being a little generic. Pretty fun and pretty stupid but I enjoyed it.
In one of the most infectious and fun garage rock albums of the '60s, The Sonics have essentially etched themselves into the history books with this iconic debut album. There's something very refreshing about hearing a record from the '60s that's this unapologetically rambunctious and you can tell that the recording sessions for this record must've been a blast. It's not the most varied project in the world, but somehow, the messiness just clicks for me.
Lana Del Rey packs an emotional punch on the dreamy and beautiful "Norman Fucking Rockwell!". As someone who had only heard "Born To Die" up to this point, even with that being the case, NFR! still showcases a massive improvement in artistry and songwriting. Not only are Lana's vocals great, perfectly fitting the slow, beautiful sound of her music, but the production and instrumental arrangements are absolutely gorgeous and Lana really seems to flourish on every song here. ... read more
Jimi Hendrix's debut, "Are You Experienced", is an actual fucking fireworks show from front-to-back. The influence and importance of this record alone is insane, and it's genuinely so nice to be able to say that a psych rock album from the '60s had my jaw on the floor for once. The playing is just stellar and the panning on certain tracks makes the experience so captivating. Incredible record, and one of the best rock albums of all time.
Beautiful. The songwriting here is so indicative of Nico's ability to write vague yet oddly personal feeling lyrics, her vocals are magnificent as usual, and the instrumentals really play to her strengths as a vocalist, leading to some absolutely incredible tracks. The more avant-garde stylings of tracks like "It Was A Pleasure Then" also allude to later records of hers down the line, which I quite like. I just really love this album!!
Black Country, New Road rise from their turbulent past in an emotional and cathartic way on this newest live album. Featuring a new vocalist whom I personally love, the new tracks performed here are at worst great, and at best stand tall as some of their finest tracks to date, which isn't a comment that I at all make lightly. This record is just so specifically appealing to me, if that makes any sense. I know that many people love and adore this band and that's awesome, but there's just ... read more
Incredibly passionate, energetic, and fun! Muddy's voice in particular just fits this sound so well, and the slow moments only go to make the high points so much more infectious and exciting. The instrumentation, particularly the drumming, is fantastic throughout and one of the main highlights of the record. I personally found the highlight of this LP, however, to be the two parts of "Got My Mojo Working". Waters' delivery and the relentlessly energetic instrumentation make it an ... read more
Really calming music and the guitarwork is pretty great the whole way through, I just have a lot of trouble connecting with instrumental works of this kind. Undeniably a very solid project, I just didn't find it to be the most engaging piece of music out there.
"UNLOCKED" is possibly one of the most impressive EPs I've heard up to this point. Packing a punch in just 17 memorable minutes (although it feels like a full album), this project is just so enjoyable the whole way through. Its concise runtime ensures that you're never bored while listening and the great production, amazing bars, and impeccable deliveries on every single track had my head spinning. I love it!
Incredibly fun and uplifting. The vocal performances are all solid, and the instrumentation kept me moving the whole way through. I'm not very familiar with calypso music, but if it all sounds this good, this definitely won't be the last record in the genre I hear. Really, really like this one :)
A little upset to admit that this... didn't really grow on me all that much. The album itself has some cool ideas and sounds and I definitely appreciate how experimental he made the approach to this record in nearly every aspect, but where OPN is usually notable for his hypnotizing atmospheres and fascinating and intricate production, to me, this just doesn't really have much to offer in either field. The production is very good, yes, but it loses me in the same way that "R Plus ... read more
edit: 73->78 it grew on me
Y'know... this might grow on me, but I don't know. This isn't doing as much for me. Obviously gecs are very silly and dumb and that's just kind of in their nature but I feel like here they just lean a bit too hard into it and that initial feeling of excitement that came with "1000 gecs" is kind of lost now. Also the mix is SO BAD! Oh my GOSH!
"Magic Oneohtrix Point Never" is a particularly interesting album to observe in comparison to other OPN records. What it lacks in terms of a clear artistic direction it makes up for in interesting ideas and new, somewhat experimental directions for his music. This is undeniably still OPN, regardless of the form that this newer album takes - the fascinating and expert production is still here, along with his really impressive ability to make soundscapes that the listener often times ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never's "Replica" is an album that I initially didn't feel particularly passionately about one way or the other. I will admit to some of this initial lack of intrigue being due to this mostly being on in the background for me. However, upon peeling back its layers and really letting a project like this one sit with the listener, this really is a project that uses samples, loops, and production tricks to really fuck with the listener's head and get into their ... read more
OK, I promise I'm getting back to actual reviews very soon but I just have to mention what a fucking JAM this song is. i love it i love it i love it soooooo much having this one on repeat all week
A small collection of very tender and melancholic songs. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this, but yeah, it just pushes all the right buttons for me.
