This greatest blog era rap album, and quite possibly one of the best albums I’ve ever heard
Did my boy Ed “Scream his own name on Weird Fishes” just put out peak?? Short answer, and long answer really, yeah he freakin did. The solo careers of Radiohead members have been… spotty, at best. Thom put out one really really spectacular album and everything else from the band has just been pretty ok (NOT counting the Smile). But what Ed has done here is really fucking cool, and honestly is one of the best albums I’ve heard this year. We’re bringing that good ... read more
AHHHHHH THAT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. If I was musically conscious in 2020 I feel like this would have carried me through the darker points of the pandemic. Truly Lianne has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard, and oh my god that Radiohead cover??? Would I say it’s as good as the original, no, but it’s really fucking good, and actually fits with the rest of the album so well. PLEASE LIANNE DROP ANOTHER ALBUM
This was some pretty solid, beautifully produced modern day gangsta rap. While it does lack some lyrical complexity, the lyrics are hardened, gruff and amazingly convey Gunn’s feelings and thoughts. This album does a fantastic job creating an environment that the listener really feels, and that is worth highlighting.
This is such a fucking direction shift from their first album it’s actually kinda insane. But fuck was that good
This has such an interesting vibe. It’s EXTREMELY indie, but also feels like music I would hear in adventure time. And that’s absolutely amazing. This album covers incredibly deep topics, like mortality and the human condition of life, while also allowing itself to have fun and be a little whimsical. And there also is not a jarring slash between the two different facets of the album. This is like Tally Hall good and evil if it were actually really good
Yeah this shit is fucking peak. I absolutely despise musical theater and show tunes as a genre of music, but this shit is kind of mind blowing. I’ve always loved Disney films, despite how kiddish they are, but this one was moving differently. How the hell were they able to get away with the G rating with themes like lust, obsession, racism, and of course religious hypocrisy, and all within, fantastic characters like Quasimodo, who has an incredible arc. And the score itself, holy shit. ... read more
You know man it’s albums like this that make the countless crimes against humanity the Japanese Empire committed in the early 1900s completely excusable. This is absolutely fucking wonderful, it’s absolutely the some of the most dreamy, explosive and colorful indie j rock I’ve ever perceived through these two ears of mine. It’s hard to find any flaws with this album, genuinely. If I had to say anything it would be that the thing is too damn fucking short. I absolutely ... read more
PLEASE DONT STOP THE LONLINESS
Holy shit that was fucking awesome. This period of time created a vibe in music that will genuinely never be seen again. I absolutely adore everything about this album. It’s so joyous, groovy, and beautiful. Anri’s voice itself is like a fucking shimmering diamond over the horizon of the peak ass instrumentals. AND THE BACKING VOCALS. AHHH. They genuinely steal the show. This groove is so unspeakably incredible that it genuinely put a smile on my face ... read more
A very short and concise album that knows exactly what it’s trying to say. It’s down to earth atmosphere is what really carries it above a lot of projects I’ve heard recently. Marlon’s bars, while chill create something that draws you into what the album is supposed to be. This is really good shit
Ehhhhhhhh now I’m back on the folk hate train lmao. Like I said in my Soviet Kitsch review, folk is really hit or miss for me across the board, and this one was a miss. I just think this one is *too* folky. It’s weird where I find the perfect blend, but this one just wasn’t it for me
AHHHHHHHHH THAT WAS SO GOOD. I’ve been fucking heavily sleeping on Elliott Smith but good god that was genuinely one of the best Indie Pop albums I’ve ever heard, if not the best. I mean seriously the way he writes songs creates deep visuals almost like a folk piece, but the lyrics still feel modern and grounded without spinning too far into a fantasyland sort of feel. I absolutely love musicality here man. Some of the chord progressions are absolutely magical, like for example, ... read more
Is this essentially Japanese Herbie Hancock? Yes. Does that make it bad? No. It’s nothing exceptionally groundbreaking, but I will say it’s extremely consistent in being pretty good on each track. (Except the second one, what the hell was going on there?? Sounded like a guy was taking it up the ass over a 5 minute bass solo.) But yes, overall pretty good
One of the most adorable albums I’ve ever heard. Put a smile on my face during a pretty tough time for me, so it gets the automatic thumbs up!
I want to like this, I really do, but listening to 2 hours of straight pixels just didn’t hit for me. I’m even a huge fan of electronic music, it’s just this was not it for me
I feel listening to Illinois is dragging me down a path of just becoming a folk fan. Folk has been extremely hit or miss for me. Either it’s great, absolutely ass, or the best thing I’ve genuinely ever heard. This one is purely great. I’ve never heard someone put so much.. energy(?) into being sad, but this captures that idea for me so much. At its core this album is an emotional roller coaster, embodying a spectrum of different feelings, but each one hits so well it’s ... read more
Genuinely the perfect Jazz piano album. I struggle to find anything really wrong here. The atmosphere is extremely warm and lush, drawing the listener into the music. And the piano playing itself is genuinely fantastic.
The way Molina strokes the ivories really channels a huge amount of emotion while also being technically fantastic. My only problem is that there weren’t enough instruments. I understand the focus in the piano, but what is a jazz album without the saxophone.
