This is one of my all-time favourites. Surfer Rosa feels like an album that doesn't take everything too seriously while being completely innovative and inspirational. Songs on the album feels like sudden explosions that mostly last 2 minutes. Typical Pixies lyrics are also here but Albini's raw production and some studio chit-chat's of band members makes you feel like you were present on the album's recording. It's one of the most agressive, energetic and sincere albums I ever listened to.

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns
90

The beloved Canadian singer-songwriter's 1975 release marked a turning point for Joni, both musically and lyrically. Although 'Hissing', her most experimental album to date, takes a while to appreciate, it has a highly enjoyable romantic-jazz vibe to it. She also abandoned her personal songwriting and created characters on each song to become a social philosopher. 'Hissing', a timeless classic, fed her legacy and influence, and earned the honour of being Prince and Björk's favourite album.

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
100

On her 3rd self-produced album, Kate mastered production and became a global artist and a legend. 'Hounds of Love', her most well-known work, consists of 2 acts. First act including five of the most iconic and original art pop songs of all time. On the second act titled 'The Ninth Wave' Kate dives right into the human mind and explores emotions of fear, longing and hopelessness. This part almost feels like a play written by Shakespeare, creating a perfect theatrical atmosphere with her ... read more

David Bowie - Low

To escape from the spotlight and the drug culture of Los Angeles, Bowie moves to Berlin with best friend Iggy Pop and with the contributions of Eno, Fripp and Visconti, Bowie enters one of the most creative eras of his career. As the first notes of Berlin Triology's first entry start playing, 'Low' takes the listener on a ride from adventurous art rock masterpieces to the haunting ambient soundscapes, full of emotions told through music and artistry.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming

This is as interesting and strange as pop music can get. It shows how unique of an artist Kate really is since this was fully self-produced. Weird vocals and instrumentation as well as the topics of the lyrics creates a once in a lifetime listening exprerience. I suggest you to listen this to see what music can become in a master's hands.

Favourites: Leave It Open, The Dreaming, Get Out Of My House

Perfume Genius, Lorde and St Vincent. Listen to their latest material and you'll understand Kate Bush's influence and legacy in music.

PJ Harvey - Is This Desire?
70

The multitalented singer/songwriters's fourth album 'Is This Desire?' is her most underrated effort yet and the reason for that might be the fact that it was released after her critically acclaimed debut and sophomore albums and her breakthrough third album, also 'Is This Desire?' was followed by the fan favourite 'Stories From the City'. But Is This Desire is definitely PJ Harvey's most experimental work so far. After bisbanding her trio that helped her out in her first 2 albums, PJ moved on ... read more

Iggy Pop - The Idiot

The most influential figure in punk music, Iggy Pop turns 70 today, he still remains as the only alive member of the Holy Trinity that consisted of Lou Reed, David Bowie, and of course Iggy. Thankfully he is still active in the music industry, while The Idiot, his debut album, is his best solo release so far.
To shake off their drug addiction and to make music that is more ambitious and creative, Iggy and Bowie moved to Berlin in the second half of the 70's. In 1977, David Bowie's Berlin ... read more

Lady Gaga - The Cure
NR

On her 4th album released last year, Gaga focused on her vocals and used real instruments for the first time in her career. But she got her fans begging for edm instead. Last night at Coachella which might be one of the worst events of all time, she debuted her new single 'The Cure' which is by far the worst thing she has ever done. Her old music was meaningless but she actually put effort into her songs that had great production compared to her peers. She brought edm into mainstream music, I ... read more

Julia Holter - In the Same Room

It would be better If she reworked her older songs to fit the 'Have You In My Wilderness' style. This is still great though.

Perfume Genius - No Shape

While I was listening to No Shape I felt like every negative thing in the world has gone away, I felt an unexplainable feeling that made me so happy and optimistic about everything. His voice is simply enchanting as always and the instrumental is breathtaking. This album sounds so glamorous while also remaining experimental. String arrangements are absolutely phenomenal. It reminds me of Hounds of Love and I'm pretty sure you will think the same when you hear the album. I can feel that this is ... read more

Her songs as iamamiwhoami was great but they were too similar to each other and they weren't so memorable. But this is amazing. The best pop song of the year so far. I can't wait to see what this new project will bring us.

Nico - Chelsea Girl
47

The sound of the strings and flutes on this record doesn't go well with Nico's voice. Instrumentals on most of the songs sounds like they belong to a soundtrack of a Disney fairy tale movie while Nico's vocals are full of sadness and melancholy. And these two doesn't seem to fit together. I would give this album a much higher rating if flutes were removed and if the strings fit her voice just like in her second album's 3rd track "No One Is There".

"Hounds of Love borrows much from traditional music from different cultures in its both halfs. Jig of Life and The Big Sky are great examples for this. That's the reason I could think of but it's one of the reasons why I love the album so much."
On St. Vincent - New York
"I don't want to sound like a fanboy but the first side of Hounds of Love sounds nothing like synth-heavy dance pop of the 80's. The production and the instrumentation in these songs are unique to Kate. Those were the hit songs of the album that inspired many art pop artists including Björk and Fiona Apple."

"Actually her second album's title is even longer its: When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight and he’ll win the whole thing ‘fore he enters the ring there’s no body to batter when your mind is your might So when you go solo, you hold your own hand and remember that depth is the greatest of heights and if you know where you stand, then you know where to land and if you fall it won’t matter, cause you’ll know that you’re right"
On Iggy Pop - The Idiot
"My favourite part of the situation is how both Iggy and Lou was a big influence for Bowie with VU and Stooges just like they have been for many other artists. And Bowie managed to be a huge impact on two of his biggest influences' solo careers. This shows the world the great artist and human being he was. Thanks for the comment, It made me remember the day I wrote the review."
