Tearless hones their typically obscure modes into their most precise concept yet
Tearless barrels along a tightrope as if it’s a landing strip, the pace blistering and the tumult unrelenting, yet it just about manages to retain its balance.
Tearless is god-forsaken wasteland of a record, which is great – if you’re cut out to survive in it.
An album so caught up in its own style that it gets swallowed up in its own eccentricities, “Tearless” surely takes the cake as one of the most disappointing albums of this year. Even though I only wanted to listen to this because of the cover art, I was at least expecting something to go along with the crazy, chaotic visuals. No. Not at all. This is trying to be crazy within its subtleties, but doesn’t build on any of the sounds that it presents. Lost potential at its ... read more
Judging from the singles and the disturbing as fuck cover art, I was hoping for another great time. Unfortunately, the feature-packed "Tearless" doesn't have the same excitement and abrasive ear candy as "Another Life". It's not that I didn't enjoy the more atmospheric cuts off of that album, it's just that it doesn't carry over the harsh textures which is a shame. The features are mostly solid and there's still some fun to be had with the singles. There's also "Too ... read more
I was quite intrigued to hear this album, considering I quite enjoyed their last album in my genre quest series. Their harsh and abrasive style of deconstructed club music was odd, but hooked me in a lot. See... that's the thing with Tearless. It just didn't really hook me a lot, at least not as much as Another Life did. There's just a lack of ear-grabbing moments unlike Another Life, at least not songs that are particularly memorable. But while it doesn't nearly capture the instant spark and ... read more
when I looked at the genre typing I thought that it would be something I'd fw. well, no, not necessarily. most of the time it tryhards its way through being experimental/weird, and at points it succeeds on production side, but more often than not it's just kinda frustrating.
loads of cool textures and timbres going on in this project, and when I first listened to it I loved the sparse nature of it, really confronting the listener with one or two densely designed sounds at a time. on second listen I think it's just boring as shit, and not particularly nice to listen to or worth listening to except if you're a true sound design fiend. but there are probably some lo-fi house records that are way easier to listen to than this, even the ones that are just a ... read more
